Marty is great for beginners. Sean is great for more intermediate players, and definitely takes on theory way more than Marty. There are dozens of good ones on youtube, and they all bring different perspectives that can add up to a really complete way of thinking about the fretboard. What a time to be alive, eh?

This looks like a great starting point for getting into the habit of playing chord based lead over a progression, rather than staying stuck in one scale. Like I wold normally just be noodling around in Aminor pentatonic over this, and so this really helps me think in term of playing with the chord changes. Granted, this example would get boring very quick but it's obviously a simple starting concept. So, yeah, very helpful! It's way past time I started thinking about lead play from different approaches.

I also like the format you suggest - even just a 20 second intro to show what the lesson builds up to. I'm also lazy and find that I end up fast forwarding through the witty banter (which I do greatly appreciate, fwiw) so that I get the gist of things before I start again from the beginning.

I would say take some time to learn some of the minor/major arpeggios and then start trying to sweep through them.

Start out with the three string shapes that begin on the fifth of the triad, on the string that is 'G.' I use those all the time.

Thanks for the lesson. One thing I've been having trouble with is muting all the strings. For instance, on that A minor arpeggio, I always end up plucking the G string with my index finger when I jump to the high e string to hit the 8th fret. Although I still struggle with it, palm muting helps a little but that pluck still creates a little noise. Any tips?

I think the best thing (which is so hard to do) is to slow it down (painfully slow) until you can execute the move cleanly and consistently, then speed it back up from there. So much easier said than done but it really helps me.

yeahhh I think I was just being a little impatient. I'm already seeing some gradual improvement, and I spent a little time working on muting strings with the heel of my picking hand as I move down. Eventually it just starts to naturally fall into place

Pro tip not mentioned in the video. DO NOT up pick the last(root) note when you come back up. Instead, start the sweep over with a down stroke. Just like they tell you not hit the 1st string twice. Don't up pick the 1st note at the end if the arpeggio. Better yet, go find other videos with 3 string arpeggios to start you off before you do these.

I'm no Sean, but in my experience I started off small "crowds" like one or two people in a room. Then moved up to 10ish, until homecoming up at college one year there was 25-50 people coming and going through the back stairwell for a miniconcert with another player. Now, this is a long process usually. That was over the course of two years and in that time you'll also get better at guitar, too. So your confidence will skyrocket in your ability. Which in my own opinion is all stage fright is, just the question of if you're good enough.
