Our drive to Mysuru a couple of weeks ago turned out to be a bit of an adventure given the unusually heavy rainfall we’ve witnessed in Karnataka in the recent past. But like they say, every dark cloud has a silver lining. Thanks to the road diversions, I got the opportunity to introduce the boss to the ‘fluffy as a cloud’ Shashi Bidadi Thatte Idli, and also take the scenic route to our heritage abode, Royal Orchid Metropole Mysore, in the palace city. Hope you enjoy the first vlog in this all-new Mysuru holiday travel series.

The best thatte idli at Bidadi was the original, Sri Renuka thatte idli, which shut shop,sometime early 2000s, and became a bakery. They were a family, who cooked at home. It was pure nostalgia at that place, they had pic of Kannada film stars of the 70s, esp Dr Rajkumar visiting them. They had to shut due to overwhelming competition by fake Renuka hotels, which are thriving now. Nevertheless.......... if it's thatte idli.....it's Bidadi 🤟

we were in Mysuru couple of months back.. absolutely fav city for our family. Some places to visit and try.. 1. Venugopalswamy temple in Kannambadi for a fantastic view to KRS backwaters.. they have done a great job on restoring the temple that was submerged in the water for long 2. Somnathpura for a taste of Hoysala architecture (an hour from Mysuru) 3. Vinayaka Mylari hotel for their Masala Dose 4. Mahesh Prasad (Chamrajpura) for their good veg breakfast... esp their bisibelebath 5. Gayatri Tiffin room for their idlis

Dear Kripal, Though i got to taste this bidadi idli through parcel. Thanks to my Mother and wife who had visited there personally to taste the same from our place in Kengeri. I enjoyed the softness of the idli and the kurma and chutney which was very spicy to my pallet. I think it is a bit overhyped destination just like Hoskote Biriyani. You can also stop over at Maddur vada hotel on your way back. Not to miss Vinayaka Mylari Dosa when you are there.Thank you.

Happy you got a taste of it, however like any idli, the Bidadi thatte idli too is best experienced a few minutes after it emerges from the steamer. And yes, the kempu chutney is super spicy.
