@RikMaxSpeed2 жыл бұрын
@@chandeleerjet5637 Yes 👍 That’s the simple answer. The longer answer is that it’s like having a 2nd synth layer: it’s so good at creating a pad-like atmosphere, even vocal/choir sounds, that it’s a fantastic combination with an analogue synth, in my case the DSI Prophet 8 (rev 1, which has no FX and can have a very bright tone). I'm an owner of the BigSky hardware unit ($500). I did not gripe about Strymon NOT giving existing customers a discount I should note. That would have been a nice gesture. So, I picked up the plug-in as well for further benefits. My only complaint and to me it's a major one is that Strymon is using iLok with cloud-only activation location(s) to where I cannot install the activation directly on the PC/MAC like the majority of vendors allow within that dated platform. Atleast this is the way it appears after going through the huge PITA to activate it. My PC is stationary, and I travel with my Mac so it's turn that on, turn that off hassles to get it playing nice with everything else. I respect the fact that these companies are trying to protect themselves against piracy but what good is your solution if the answer to that itself frustrates and possibly chases customers away. This will be the last one boys. Know that after what I went through today. There has to be a better way and honestly if I had known, I just would have rather just plugged the hardware in here and there because essentially that is what they are asking us to do by purchasing a USB Dongle from iLok to get around weak Wi-Fi connections and such. So plan on this plug-in costing about $250+ if you want some peace of mind. Oh the nightmares of the heavenly reverbs going off because the constant cloud connection broke. I'm a paying customer, and I do not deserve that. If I am wrong here, I stand to be corrected. Thanks.
@RayyMusik2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your warning. There are few music software companies with tolerable registration/authorization processes. Strymon apparently decided to torture the customer. Well, gonna stick to my real blue box or Valhalla.
@frankymino87737 ай бұрын
Well I certainly turned away from purchasing the plugin primarily due to iLok. People who download plugins (illegally) never had the intention on purchasing it to begin with. So the developer would never have gained the culprit as a customer to begin with. In essence they don't lose anything. I understand developers protecting their work... though iLok just turns many legitimate customers away. The fact is they could gain much more sales by another means of activation. Especially for existing customers.

Everyone saying it’s expensive for a plug in because Valhalla has them $50 each… or $80 more for the physical pedal… 1. Anyone who wants the effects of the BigSky ($479) can now have access at $200. 2. It’s incredibly convenient. I have it in my pedalboard for guitars. And I have a separate pedalboard for my synths. So for someone like me, to session record and being able to pull this up without swapping it out of the 2 different boards. So convenient. 3. IF they did reduce the price. It would be too low because all those algo’s could be bought at 1/4 or less than the physical unit. So have to be realistic about it. I’m not rich by any means, but I’d gladly pay $200 to have it available in my DAW as needed. And I will still keep the actual pedal. I don’t see an issue in having both for different use cases!
@DamienTheCat2 жыл бұрын
Lol this is like stockholm syndrome. They need to lower the price because there are far better VSTs out there for 20 bucks, let alone 50. There are better FREE reverbs out there. This is not the field Strymon should get into if they want to charge these prices. The actual recording community and "at-home" engineers are not going to touch this.

This looks amazing. But the price is a sensitive issue. The R&D on the algorithms has surely been covered by the pedal sales. When you buy a pedal you have a physical object which you can sell or trade quickly and easily and never worry about it no longer being compatible with your pedal board. Plugins can go down at any second through OS or DAW updates. If you don’t update then you’re being held hostage by a plugin - as they are always late to the party with updates and compatibility. They’re very difficult to sell and you only ever really own them with a bunch of conditions attached. There are so many great reverb plugins out there at considerably more realistic prices.

I agree. I'm demoing it and the sound just isn't there. Liquidsonics are head and shoulders above this, and the Big Sky plugin just sounds thin and flat in comparison.
