I live in Oz and bought this (the AWD version) instead of a model Y about 8 weeks ago. Best decision ever. The very next day we drove it 700km from Sydney to Victoria. Didn't need to stop for fuel or charge. It then did about another 150km before I put some fuel in. We didnt bother charging it down there, so the battery hovered at about 25% and the DMI just charged whenever it decided to. No input from us, and no stress about finding a charging point. Drove home - didnt need to stop for fuel, even though we left with a battery at 25%. Now that we are home and doing usual school runs and everyday local driving, we charge it each night and drive it as an EV the whole time. Does about 80k (50mi) on a charge, which is more than enough for a usual day of family taxi stuff. It's really nice and solid and convenient and quiet. Easily as premium, solid and well built as the Mercedes GLC we were also comparing it to. And it shits on the Model Y in terms of features and real world use. This BYD (the model is a Sealion 6 over here) is what generations of family cars have been trying to become since the dawn of the SUV.

How often do you take long road trips? Also what's the average driving per day?
@warwickboulter34702 ай бұрын
@@JSM-bb80u we usually do about 8 trips over 150 km each way, and a couple like the 700 km each each way per year. On a normal week it's school, sport, work stuff - so max 80 km per day max with an average total of about 250 km per week.

i just wish they did a 4th option, with the larger battery and range from the comfort model in the AWD option. The comfort model needs to be made available sooner, as its the ideal salary sacrifice model to go for, especially if you do 27 miles each way to work when theres not a charger available at work! looks like i have to wait until the about february / march time which i was quoted.

In my opinion, the biggest problem with this car is the bootspace. With only 420l storing capacity it is not a car for a family with kids. What do you think?
@bgjuk-c8u2 ай бұрын
Depends on how old your kids are. If you have twins or something with a massive wide stroller then maybe not ideal but once they're of walking age then I think it is fine. I have a 2022 Kuga PHEV with 412L for reference :)

So does it drive in AWD electric like the outlander does or does the engine have to power two of the wheels?
@onetwothreefour-s1n3 ай бұрын
The engine doesn't have to power the wheels but it can when needed.
@bgjuk-c8u2 ай бұрын
Yes it can drive AWD in full electric. At high speed the engine can kick in to directly drive the wheels also but otherwise it only acts as a generator like Nissan e-Power.

I really wanted to get this but then realised it's much more expensive than the KIA EV3 n technically has less range for the £....... Byd is about £100 to fill the tank and £2 to fill the electric at home...... KIA EV3 is around £25-30 for 375miles so you'd have to top up twice to get to BYDs range but it's still cheaper. Wish they added more ev distance if they did a 150mile ev version I think it'd be a no brainier as you'd have enough ev to not worry
@bgjuk-c8u2 ай бұрын
Yes this is about 12p/mile and the EV3 is 3.8p/mile based on home charging with Octopus EV tariff and a 7kWh charger. But this is not a BEV and isn't trying to compete with one. This is ideal for people who can't charge at home and might only have occasional access to a charger. The fact it supports DC fast charging is great as it lets them try that too at public chargers and see how they get on ready for the eventual transition to BEV. For company car drivers such as myself, I can't charge at home and my work doesn't have much EV charging capacity so a BEV is out of the question, but the PHEV is very tax-efficient so ideal. Making it 150 miles range would make it so much heavier, it is already a very heavy car.
@barnoslogikАй бұрын
£1.35 a litre for petrol and a 60 litre tank = £81 a tank not £100. also if go for the comfort model when it comes out you have 70 mile range on ev. that second figure is more important for myself when i do 27 miles each way to work without the option of a charger at work currently. so 54 mile round trip means i require that larger battery comfort model. now i also drive approx 450 miles each way to scotland to visit family. now with design model doing 540 miles and the other boost model doing 699miles, now i'm thinking the comfort will offer 650 roughly due to the added weight factor that would mean almost there and half way back to somerset on 1 full tank and 1 full charge of battery. now i currently drive a 1.6 diesel ibiza with a 45 litre tank that costs about £60 to fill up and i get about 500 miles on the motorway, so that means realistically closer to 2 full tanks so £120 so i woudl save close to a 1/3 of the money!
@jeffgyamfi1653Ай бұрын
Yh thanks.....thats kind of my thinking, I'm still looking and just test drove the EV3...... I drive from London to Manchester to visit family occasionally so need to manage 200 miles which both can do..... But I get free charging Network and have good charging network near mine so yeah I'm still torn but think if I'm being a cheapskate then I go with the EV3 for the free charging but if I want no stress of being stranded I go with BYD.... I actually just stumbled across the Ford explorer, gonna research it
