I don't dive, free dive, spearfish because I can't equalize. That & I've blown my left eardrum 5 times, right eardrum twice. I've got hearing loss in my left no surprises. Great video. Gotta add that an experienced diver once told me that snorkelling was worse for your ears due to the constant change in pressure being experienced. Always found that an interesting piece of advice. Happy spearfishing people.

Hi,I can equalise at atmospheric pressure by swallowing and pinching, but I can't equalise by moving the tongue up and back and I gag. Is there anything else I can do?

If I make alot of freedives deep for 3 + days in a row my ears almost always start to become hard to equalise even though they never hurt and when it happens I have to waste alot of time mid water trying to equalise or have to stay shallow
@lachlanoneil89384 жыл бұрын
Also they start to hurt when I equalise probably even more so when I'm out of water and I get heaps of random half pops not just one

Hello! Sir I have a question that does the wetsuit hood helps with the pressure when your going down? If not why do they use that particular one?
@sunsetman91925 жыл бұрын
Do I equalise just going down? What about coming up?
@josephmcdonagh83895 жыл бұрын
Not really, because the pressure is decreasing.
@rpetersen25 жыл бұрын
Negative, his reply above is incorrect in every way, you always want to equalize up and down as it allows repeated dives more often and repetitively and helps install better technique and helps prevent an imbalance of equilibrium which nit only reduces issues with balance but helps prevent vertigo from diving at depth!!! If you have issues going to the bottom of an old school pool at 10 to 12 ft then you definitely need to always practice equalization during descent and ascension

Does cold water effect equalising
@dragonfist7 жыл бұрын
no
@lambobrus7 жыл бұрын
Not directly but often people are tense in cold water, as a result constricting the eustchians.
@ADRENO7 жыл бұрын
Hey Billy, As Jacob said, cold water doesn't have any direct effect on equalising, however, it has been noted that some people have a histamine response to cold water causing a partial blockage in the eustchian tubes.
@rpetersen25 жыл бұрын
As a biochem major I will tell you not only is Jacob and Adreno correct, but they also aren’t. Each person is different in genetics and biology and nothing can change this except training and repeatedly involving yourself in the same situation! This being said yes cold water affects equalizing directly as it happens in the inner ear and effects the Fallopian tubes and the colder it is the harder it should be to equalize if you aren’t experienced as you will experience minor shock from the water temps and possibly be in mild hypothermia and have issues, especially if you are only acclimated to warmer water temperatures. That being said, comfort under water and experience play a large role as well as you know to stop descending and equalize before passing different atmosphere levels without regard and risking issues so the answer is more truly yes and no from the scientific standpoint!!!

I cant equalise my left ear , it gets more difficult as much as I try. Any suggestions?
@dragonfist7 жыл бұрын
what method of equalization you are using?
@رياضةالملوك-ط7ف7 жыл бұрын
dragonfistbs thanks for asking. I pinch my nose and blow. My right ear pops but my left ear may get a little pop or nothing.
@lambobrus7 жыл бұрын
Tilt your head away from the ear that is being difficult, apparently extending the eustschian tube can help..
@dragonfist7 жыл бұрын
do not use this equalisation technique it can cause damage to the eardrum. Google Frenzel equalisation
@رياضةالملوك-ط7ف7 жыл бұрын
dragonfistbs thank you very very much for that advice. That is very affective. For a fact that my left ear equalised easer then the right one when it was the opposite. Many thanks

I equalize by pressing on my nose and pushing my ears out?
@ADRENO7 жыл бұрын
Hey there, that method is great for getting down in the shallower water, but if you're looking to dive deeper and for longer, we would recommend looking into the Frenzel equalising method, which we'll be covering in part 2 and 3 of this mini series.
