Intuitive eating just means listening to your body. If you think you're gonna eat chocolate the whole day if you listen to your body, you will not. Trust me. I used to work at a chocolate store and one day I ate chocolate the whole day. The next day I CRAVED vegetables, beans, meat, and rice. I learned that the body just wants balance. If you have too much of one thing, the body will crave other foods that will give you nutritional balance. That's intuitive eating....Balance!

Listening to your body. It's sometimes helpful, sometimes not. Incorrect habits (a variety of things, like bad posture, wrong walking gait, wrong running technique, breathing, sitting, standing, etc) are broken by ignoring what your body tells you. It takes mental effort to go against what your body wants and is used to doing. What is "natural" will feel weird and difficult at first until it becomes the new norm.

Sorry, at one point you were an icon of mine who inspired me into healthier eating nearly a decade ago. That led to nearly eight years of struggling with over restriction and regular binge eating derived from the psychological stress of calorie counting to a fault. Now, I have the education I needed then, the education in nutrition and the experience with dietitians and dietary psychologists that led to a better understanding of what I was eating and why I was eating it. I want to support you, but the mentality behind this and the misunderstanding inherent in this video is hard not to speak up about. It's nice to hear you agree with alot more than I expected you to, but I would encourage you to maybe meet with Dietitians and other experts in the field who work both with dnr and real people struggling to drop this mass diet mentality to better understand what Intuitive Eating is about and what forgoing food labels of "good" and "bad" realistically do. Intuitive eating has been so liberating for me. I have a past of eating disorders first it was starving myself in highschool then in my 20's it was a mix of starving and binging on and off. 1 year ago when I started my intuitive eating journey I was fearful of the unconditional permission to eat. I had spent the last 17 years of my life hating my body and using exercise as a punishment. I experienced a lot of bullying in school for my body even though I was a healthy active kid in competitive dance I was naturally curvy with thick thighs, arms and bum I think due to my latina and italian heritage so I grew up thinking I had weight to lose even though I didn't. Even my gym teacher in grade 8 wrote on my report card I should get in better shape like wtf I was a competitive dancer I was solid so that led to an eating disorder plus in the early 2000's being super skinny was still the style and also my father being my food and body police. I felt a lot of guilt and anxiety whenever I ate even if I was eating a salad i couldn't fully enjoy it thinking of it as punishment for the weight I had gained over the years due to a traumatic event I experienced when I was 20 in 2011. Also intuitive eating can make you lose weight if your body has extra weight to lose, I am living proof of it. My goal was to lose the 80 pounds I gained from my traumatic event and in this 1 year I lost 50 of those pounds. Not only did I intuitively eat but I also took dance and zumba classes a few times a week which is exercise I enjoy and it's not a punishment at all, and I meditate every evening to manage my stress levels and help me sleep more soundly because sleep and stress are major factors in weight loss. I cut out my abusive ex bf out of my life for good so that definitely helped with the stress levels as well. Cortisol aka the stress hormone will make your body hold onto weight. Drinking a lot of water helped me too and weaning myself off of sugary coffee every morning. I don't even crave the morning coffee anymore instead I crave my morning lemon water with no added sugar at all. I have seen some comments thinking intuitive eating means eating a bunch of fast food/junk food whenever you want and that is not what it is about at all. It's about respecting and learning to love your body by eating balanced nutritious foods until you are full not stuffed and while giving yourself the permission to have treats here and there and also by not fearing food aka "good food" "bad food" "being naughty" mentality and not fearing weight gain so badly that you go to extreme weight loss measures. I rarely crave fast food/junk food/processed snacks anymore and instead my body craves fruits and vegetables, healthy fats like nuts and avocado, beans and carbs like sweet potato and quinoa. If you actually research the lifestyle and read the Intuitive Eating book by Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch you'll see that its actually a very simple concept and a beautiful peaceful way of living life. There are also many videos on youtube that go in depth about the chapters of the book. :)

@Krissy Nikolova You did not offend me at all. I just wanted to mention that many women don’t need to eat 2000 calories, while you are right that lots of other women also do need 2000 calories and above. It comes down to each person. It does take years for people to know what feels right for them, but it’s very individual. To tell you the truth, the number should not really be a factor. There is no actual study that says everyone needs to eat 2000 calories. Trust me, I wish I could eat 2500 calories everyday but it just doesn’t sit well with me. I am short and not very active, so that’s also a factor. Although I have never had ED, I am glad you found a healthy eating plan for you.

Just my experience, but I actually watched one of your videos stressing caloric restriction to lose weight about a year ago. I started doing this and lost 15 pounds in 2 months. But I was eating 1200 calories per day, and my stomach was growling all day and I KNEW I was hungry. After I lost the weight I went up to eating 1500 calories a day to see if that would help solve my hunger. I was still hungry and I actually gained a few pounds. After giving up caloric restriction and satisfying my hunger, I gained 20 pounds and I ended up 5 pounds heavier than when I first watched your video. I know this is not everyone’s experience, but I do think this is not uncommon. I began my intuitive eating journey about a month ago and I’ve actually lost weight, even though I wasn’t trying to. For me, I feel healthier than I have in a while, and with intuitive eating I feel it is a lot easier to love myself and my body.

Former dieter of 10 years and IE follower here. This video was clearly made by Jillian to push her diet culture message. First of all, Jillian Michaels has NO formal education in nutrition. All of her certifications are exercised-focused. It’s very unethical for her to advise on what people should be eating. Secondly, just because I’ve given myself unconditional permission to do something doesn’t mean that I WANT to do it. This is one of the biggest misconceptions of IE. I’ve given myself unconditional permission to eat, but I’m not gorging myself constantly. Since giving up the restrict -> binge cycle that dieting led me into I am mindful about how food will make me feel, how it will impact my health, and whether or not I’ll actually enjoy it and use that knowledge to make my food choices. Instead of looking to someone else to find out what I should eat I’m listening to my body. The same goes for exercise. The idea that people can be healthy at every size is completely valid. Jillian sells her products using body shame (her comment that her programs will get you better “results” than other workouts is a clear indication of this). If everyone worked out solely for physical health instead of how it might make their body look she would have a much, much smaller market for her products. She doesn’t sell workouts, she sells the perfect body that will make people worthy of attention and love. Without that product to sell she would have no source of income, so of course she isn’t open to an idea that discards that way of thinking. All in all, this video was completely biased and uneducated.

Intuitive Eating works. I strongly believe it could work for everyone. It changed my life and I now have such an amazing relationship with food. Everyone thinks that if they allow themselves to eat whatever they want, they will binge. This will happen at first possibly but then you eat in a totally normal way. I have no food rules and dessert every night but I am in amazing shape and I have never felt better mentally with regards to my relationship with food.

Read the book and the research before you judge and try and tear it apart. Intuitive eating is NOT about weight loss, it’s about living a physically and mentally healthy life based on your own body, not someone else’s or someone’ else’s opinion. The principals work together. By saying no to the food police, giving yourself permission to eat AND being aware of how what you eat makes you’re body feel you choose foods that fuel your body in a way that makes you feel good rather than eating or not eating something because someone gave you a list of foods that you can or cannot eat and a schedule of when you can eat them.

I don't think you understand the premise of this at all. Intuitive eating helped me get over my eating disorder. I actually lost 10kgs from my starting weight whilst suffering from anorexia. It's like Stephanie Buttermores "all in" diet which is exactly what I did. Unlike Stephanie I don't like sweets and live in a country town so I don't have access to fast foods or anything like that but I did eat whatever I wanted whenever I wanted. Chips, pizza, bread, pasta - everything that had previously been off limits. I had UNCONDITIONAL permission from myself to eat whatever I wanted. It didn't take long before I simply stopped eating so much of anything. One or two slices of pizza is plenty for me and if I want three then I'm going to eat three. Before intuitive eating, I would've eaten 1.5 pizzas in a sitting because I didn't know when I would next be "allowed" a meal that wasn't "healthy". I've never been overweight so I can't look at this from an obesity standpoint but there is so much validity in this way of living. I know some of it seems intense but I think that's just how a lot of people come off especially on the internet.. it's like everything's got to be aggressive or its not valid which isn't true at all. At the end of the day, people shouldn't feel bad for eating what they eat. Being healthy is amazing and I feel so good but I used to have overwhelming guilt and feel sick to my stomach if I over ate. I felt I had no control over what I put into my body - it was either extreme starvation or shovelling food into my mouth completely disassociated. It's about changing your perspective on food so you don't overeat, stop fearing being "fat" and don't let food control your entire existence anymore. Without intuitive eating I probably would be dead by now haha!

There have been accounts of people who are anorexic for so long that their body only gains weight after that long of a deprivation due to how much their metabolisms slow down.. views like yours are soooo toxic

I find eating every four hours hard to do. I find for me I need at least something every 3 hours. I am losing weight so I think it works for me. I do the 14 hour fast, sometimes it's 13 instead of 14 but usually 14. And I work out (4 days a week half hour circuit training, and 30 minutes a day of swiss (stability) ball - mat on the floor - and a chair), walk briskly, swim 45 minutes daily. Yes! Maintaining weight loss is the hard part and I see a therapist about it. Losing weight is easy, keeping it off is the hard part and something I would love for Jillian to talk about more often.

Just love the comments which say Jillian just hasn’t done enough research and simply lacks understanding of how IE works. I spent years trying to figure it out myself, and whenever in doubt this would be the refrain I’d hear: that I just “hadn’t got it”. That ultimately, the aha-moment would come and I’d “get” the secret of IE, following which wonderful things would happen to my life, body, and relationship with food. That never happened though - so at some point I just realised I didn’t want to experiment with myself anymore. Moreover, I know of other people who’ve had a similar experience! I truly think no amount of research and expensive coaching on IE will do it for some people. Because it’s not a cure-all, nor should it be marketed as such.

Have never understood the level of irrational hatred agains intuitive eating. We know that people fail in fad diets because they are often too restrictive and difficult to maintain. Encouraging people to look at food as an energy source (rather than as the enemy or as cure for boredom/loneliness/depression) is not crazy or wild. There is a substantial and growing body of research showing that IE is much more effective at long term health improvement (including weight loss) because it helps people to understand emotional vs.s physical hunger, encourages eating for health and encourages exercise. People are out here literally trying to go on cayenne pepper and lemon juice diets because they want to lose weight. People are out here eating between 800-1200 calories a day because they want to lose weight. What is so out of this world about saying instead of focusing on just the weight, let's focus on your relationship with food. Are you eating the cookie because you wanted a sweet treat? Or are you eating the cookie because you're trying to fill a void? For some people food is an addiction, so just saying: eat less/move more isn't going to resonate. But helping a person develop a healthier relationship with food sure can. Will it work for everyone? Nope. But it's not unhealthy, it's not radical and it's not some license to binge eat.
@francesluna5864 жыл бұрын
Thats right Patricia. She do not understand the whole purpose of intuitive eating. She can't have an opinion without doing some real research first about the IE, IE never ever in therapy will tell you to eat whatever whenever is also about balance. But to get that balance you have to stop having fear to food and getting fat. And another, the IE is not to lose weight that is clear. Is to have a mental and body health no matter what size.

Agreed. It's not just eat less..move more. Balance diet makes simple/basic/vague sense....When it is about addictive behaviors and hormone response to food....calories aint even close. Calories are not bio markers. Intuitive eating of any kind is still hormone balanced or bullied by lifestyle/environment/culture....since birth. We cannot begin to safely cure or remedy or regain our health with 10 steps or 10,000 steps without learning how the human body is 100% controlled by hormones....not calorie counting and crunches. Seed Oils and Sugar are not jumping off the plate into our mouths without blind addiction...albeit ignorant behaviors. Intuitive Eating or any other word play on it is...still hormone controlled-unfortunately ignored or avoided because it's too much "homework" beyond 5th grade calorie math...

I could be wrong, so someone please correct me if I am...but you CAN lose weight while eating intuitively IF your body needs to lose weight. The idea is you are listening to your body. And your body will eventually maintain a HEALTHY weight (which is different for different people) IF you truly listen to your body and eat intuitively. Intuitive eating is NOT just over indulging on what diet culture deems “junk food”. If you are truly in tune with your body your body will tell you what it needs. In fact, your “eat less, move more” idea CAN be intuitive eating if you are currently over eating. But instead of having the mentality of restricting yourself and forcing yourself to eat less, you are becoming more mentally engaged and working towards your body/mind telling you to stop eating when you are full. If you are claiming to eating intuitively and are constantly eating sour patch kids, max&cheese, etc. then NO you are not eating intuitively snd you need to keep working on listening to your body. That does NOT mean those foods are off limits, but your body needs Whole Foods and nutritional value. No, you won’t lose weight in a short time period, but you will be healthier for a longer time period. I think if Jillian looked more into intuitive eating she would realize a lot of her mindset actually is in line with intuitive eating and she shouldn’t completely throw it away. I am still working towards being better myself, so If anything I said still has diet culture vocabulary just know I am still trying!

Just a note - when you were reading the section about making peace with food and take away the restrictions, they don't mean you should permit yourself to eat an entire pint of ice cream. They're saying that you won't tell yourself "I will NEVER eat X again (ice cream, chips, pizza, etc). By taking all the restrictions off the food, it's supposed to make the food less desirable. I've read the Intuitive Eating book and attempted that way of life, but it doesn't work for me. I tend to overeat calories even if it's "healthy" food. I do much better tracking my calories and keeping it around 1500-1600 on days that I work out and closer to 1400 on days that I don't work out. However, I don't live by the numbers. If I'm legit hungry and I've already eaten whatever I had planned on eating for the day, I will most definitely eat something else. I am not about starving myself!

Body is also looking for balance. Of course if you restrict yourself from what society calls "bad" foods and you read about intuitive eating, you'll think it's a crazy thing, because your body is deprived from that. These days, our body is underestimated, and the truth is that it's on the same side as us. I understand why she talks like this, because society has taught us this. But we can unlearn and make peace with food, because food is fuel. About other things you said, EVERY BODY HAS ITS UNIQUE NEEDS. You can't say how much should eat a woman, don't matter how old she is. If all the world ate the same and exercise exactly the same we would still look different, and that's why our needs are different as well. About exercise, it should be enjoyable for everyone. When she talks about it, she focus on weight loss in a bad way. With that I mean that every change you want to do to your body you have to do it FROM THE LOVE TO YOUR BODY, NEVER FROM THE HATE. If you wanna change your body "to love it", you won't be able to reach the goal NEVER. Learn to respect, accept and love your body before wanting to change it. You'll see the difference, I promise. Of course it is hard work, but it's necessary. I think that's all I wanted to say.

Anyone who wants to spend the majority of their time counting calories and being of afraid social encounters and holidays, be my guest, but know there are other options out there that can finally bring you to a place where you can feel good about yourself whether you're eating a donut or an apple.

I’ve been watching Jillian’s content for a while and while I don’t agree with her on everything I don’t think she’s ill-intended either, for the most part she just wants what’s best for people’s health. As someone who’s practicing intuitive eating and is two chapters from finishing the book, I’m really not surprised that she misunderstood what intuitive eating is and she’s definitely not the only one. A lot of people think that intuitive eating rejects healthy eating in the name of eating what you want to know end with no regard to how much you consume - this is not the case at all, reading the principles alone can make someone easily misunderstand the approach but I think if Jillian dug deeper her opinion would be different. The reason why IE appears so anti-weight loss is because that tends to be a main trigger for not allowing someone to honour their hunger and listen to their body and intuitive eating emphasizes how crash dieting places a lot of guilt and shame around food which causes disordered eating. So eating with the intention of weight loss can hinder someone from following their body’s signals. The only part in intuitive eating where there may be unlimited eating so to speak is at the beginning where people who have been dieting for so long eat so much because they’ve been deprived, the book emphasizes that this is a temporary stage and not everyone goes through it the same way but the bottom line is that at a point, the person will eat less and regulate their intake to a normal one because they’re no longer deprived. Intuitive eating should be viewed simply - eating when you’re hungry, listening to your body, that’s literally the basis of it, yes it doesn’t necessarily support weight loss and I think that’s what makes it problematic for some people but it doesn’t support the other extreme of it, rather it supports balance and health and I don’t see why people should find problems in that. I personally am trying to lose some weight and I do that by eating lower calorie foods that are filling and moving/exercising more, still intuitive eating has allowed me to make peace with food and since I started my IE journey I don’t have as many cravings and I eat much less junk food (and I still let myself eat it) and it’s helped me significantly in dealing with emotional/binge eating which happens rarely now.

I am a 50 year old woman who eats around 1600 calories per day....I count macros not calories but it ends up being around 1600. What works for one person might not work for the next. If intuitive eating works for you, that is awesome......I need accountability and tracking macros helps me to make sure that I am being accountable and also getting all the protein, fat, and carbs that my body needs on a daily basis.

There seem to be some misunderstandings on your part about what intuitive eating actually means (which is understandable!). How awesome would it be for your viewers if you did a podcast/interview with the dietitians who wrote the book - Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch. I think you would be surprised by what you learn! Side note- healthy at every size does NOT mean people are healthy at every size, just that people at every size are worthy of respect (which I know you agree with), and that pursing health-related goals independent of weight is a better long term approach to health than focusing on weight loss.

I was a fat kid turned chronic dieter in my mid to late 20’s. Got super skinny and tried to maintain that but my body felt tired, weak, and really just not ok. I kept getting really sick, and I began to really go down a dark mental path. I tried intuitive eating for what seems like... 10 times. A cycle between intuitive eating, giving up due to fear of weight gain, to... going back on a restrictive diet and about 1200-1400 calories, tops. And when i finally hung in there, I began to lose weight with intuitive eating. There’s certainly a hurdle at first, where you’re like... trying to listen to your body, right? It’s so hard! Because diet culture isn’t about that, it’s about numbers, and macros. But once you learn, you actually... shed the pounds and feel good and free and happy. If it wasn’t for intuitive eating, and the chain breaking, I’d be... depressed, sick, and feeling like a constant failure for not passing up on something as silly as an Oreo! And that’s just not a way to live. Intuitive eating had helped me see life isn’t in a box... no one is. And that it’s ok to see all food as just that - food. It’s ok to listen to your body and TRUST that it will guide you. Because it always does. Always, every time. All you have to do is listen... and that takes time. But hang in there, and you can do it! So whoever came here and got triggered, know that this is not ok, and that there are people JUST LIKE YOU, who want to succeed without feeling miserable every step of the way. You’re not alone, you’re not a failure, and you’re so, so gorgeous inside and out.
@jenne50834 жыл бұрын
As a long-winded addition, I guess, when she assumes that rejecting diet culture means you’re a size 16? Really? Intuitive eating is about not overeating, BUT EATING ENOUGH. It’s about listening to your body! You can eat food, any food, all food. Please do! And your body, I can’t stress this enough, WILL eventually CRAVE better, wholesome food. That is what we’ve evolved for, but we ALSO... are human. Imagine that. So yeah, we want a cookie sometimes! Or 5! And that’s ok! Your body will keep itself at a natural... baseline, of sorts. This woman is literally saying unconditional money spending and unconditional smoking and drinking... like... that’s not even the same food. SHE COMPARED FOOD TO MONEY LIKE EVERYONE HAS MONEY TO OVERSPEND. That’s a red flag in an of itself. ESPECIALLY during a goddamn pandemic. Like... come on. If there’s anything you wanna learn here: tl;dr - intuitive eating is about actually listening to your body, and diet culture is about restricting and number counting. Her point is we should be eating healthy most of the time. What she doesn’t get is that intuitive eating is about that too, because our bodies will naturally want those good foods eventually. It’s about listening to your body and not crapping on yourself when you eat out of sadness... BUT ACKNOWLEDGE when you ARE eating out of sadness and find a way to cope with sadness differently most of the time. She talks about balance, but she doesn’t get it because why? Huh? She is RUNNING A DIET BUSINESS. Intuitive eating means less sales for HER.

I’m not even done watching the video but I have to put this out there as a footnote about hunger. I think it’s important for other people like me to know that intuitive eating might just absolutely *never* work for them. I have two things going on. 1. I have weak stomach lining nerves that don’t register fullness quickly, and I simply do not get full when other people are getting full. (And no, dieting did not “shrink” my stomach.) I don’t feel uncomfortable when I eat more than I need, I don’t feel gross. Ever. Eating 1500 calories in a single meal feels totally normal and lovely to *my* stomach. I suffer no ill effects from eating eight slices of pizza (except fat.) My stomach is a liar. If I do that “wait 20 minutes for the fullness to set in” thing, it backfires. I can then eat a whole additional meal! :) 2. After doing some research, I realize that my constant legitimate hunger (I’m not an emotional eater or mindless snacker) is actually due to leptin resistance. Basically, because I was overweight for too long, my body pumped out so much leptin that it doesn’t register the overabundance of that hormone anymore. But leptin is what is supposed to send the message that “you have enough stored energy, you are set on food for now.” (The BBC documentary “What’s the Right Diet for You?” has a good explanation of leptin resistance, it was a big eye opener.) My suspicion Is that a lot of people out there are like me too, and that’s why they have difficulty staying on a diet like I always do, because their body is just fighting them the whole way, and so eating intuitively absolutely does not work- our “intuition” (our physical body) is broken and tells us to eat more calories than we need! So I’ve kept my excess weight off now for almost a year and I’m just going share with you guys that even while maintaining my healthy weight, I’m pretty hungry between meals and snacks. I think diets that tell you you’re never going to be hungry are basically setting you up for failure. I think intuitive eating only works for people who are emotional over-eaters, not physical overeaters, and it probably only works in conjunction with help from a qualified therapist. I know this isn’t great news or anything but watching that BBC documentary and wrapping my brain around the idea of tolerating a periodic normal (for me) amount of hunger really helped me out. And stuffing myself with lots of vegetables. :) Sorry this is so long, But I do agree with Jillian that some of these tenets of the intuitive eating really aren’t helpful to a lot of us.

I find that what helps me to stay full longer is making sure all my meals have protein, carbs, fibre and healthy fats. You don't need to put an abundance of each on your plate but enough to satisfy your hunger. For example one of my fave meals that keeps me full for 3-4 hours depending on how active I am that day. In a bowl I put a little quinoa, a little roasted sweet potato, black beans or if you eat meat put a little meat or any protein. Then salad of your choice, with a little avocado with a light sprinkling of nuts. Then to dress a light vinaigrette. So filling so delish your body will thank you. Also I found eating slower and chewing my food well helped with my digestion issues, it also helps you enjoy the experience of eating so much better. Also staying hydrated drinking a lot of water keeps you full. Sometimes we think were hungry but actually were dehydrated and don't require as much food as we think. I get most of my recipes from youtube just search quinoa bowls or healthy bowls. Clean and delicous and the domestic geek and laura in the kitchen have some great healthy filling recipes on their channels. :)

What Jillian is saying here makes a lot of sense to me…Intuitive eating seems to be getting more cult like every day

Have you even looked at the book? I’ve been a weight watcher member for many years. I lost 150 pounds and have kept it off. I was obsessed with the number on the scale and weighed and measured every ounce of food. It’s a miserable existence. I’ve been maintaining my weight on intuitive eating.
@ester84364 жыл бұрын
I agree with you. That definition of intuitive eating sounds wild! For me intuitive eating is just normal eating while still being aware of general nutrition.
@Soaring_Seajay4 жыл бұрын
I’ve always felt intuitive eating is such BS (for me). Every time I do it I just eat all the things and gain body fat. Left to my own devices, I’ll eat garbage food or large portions of healthy food. Some people find it restrictive, but I find tracking my food really helps. I maintain my weight around 2,000 and had a bit too much 🍃 the other day and ate 2,700 calories. Whoops 😬 . I didn’t beat myself up or severely restrict. I will just stick to around my 2,000 or a little less for the rest of the week. Also I’ve found syncing my caloric intake to my menstrual cycle really helps too. It’s like a form of intuitive eating I guess, but with planning and tracking. lol. I eat mainly healthy but allow for treats and it helps a lot. Thanks for the video 🥰

Yip same thing happened to me when I did it. Also makes you feel like rubbish from all the crap food
@Soaring_Seajay4 жыл бұрын
Allanah Hickey Yes! And from the overeating. I also was into paleo at the time and was restricting things like potato and peanut butter so I would overindulge in fats like avocado, olive oil, etc. Now I just eat balanced meals and works out so much better for me, physically and emotionally.
@juliezoutendam53384 жыл бұрын
I also do SOOOO much better when I track my food. Otherwise, I eat too many "healthy treats" because "it's healthy". Calories are still calories though whether they come from energy balls or a candy bar.
@Soaring_Seajay4 жыл бұрын
Julie Zoutendam Yes, me too!! I think tracking helps keep me in check. It’s good to know I’m not alone.

Bottom line is : common sense 🤗. If you understand that you cannot break the laws of physics and thermodynamics, that’s good enough really.

she talks like if every single human being has access to the food she has and we are different we were born in different environments , we have different structures , we work different jobs , each day we spend a specific amount of energy , do you think i should follow your bs diet or my own body that has been with me for years and knows best about what i've been through 🙄

I started my fitness journey 10 months ago, i wasn’t overweight or anything, just wanted to get more lean and build some muscle.i did lose some weight, but my bmi was normal. I thought i was eating enough but i was constantly hungry even after eating food. I did reduced the amount of food i was intaking. But my period slowly started to flow very lightly and i missed my period this month, i aways had regular cycles, but its been 53 days since i got my last period. Should i be worried?
@Angie-bc7df4 жыл бұрын
If you under fuel your body, you can experience loss of period 🙈
@gillianmorse74694 жыл бұрын
First make sure you aren’t pregnant! Second missing a period isn’t the worst thing in the world, it has happened to me as I have been exercising a lot and watching what I eat. I didn’t have a period for 3 months until last week when I went on vacation and ate a lot of ice cream and relaxed a little lol. Try to take a break for maybe a week or two. You also may be low on fat intake (I was) which can mess with hormones. If missing a period becomes regular then yes see a doctor but you may just be overdoing it

If you are in an extreme caloric deficit i.e. a deficit of up to 1000kcals or more or eating less than 1000kcals a day, you will have those issues. Please get checked.

What is your opinion on Noom? I eat healthy but my biggest struggle is restriction and binging? Love your healthy approach to diet!
@sydneyheath96094 жыл бұрын
I struggled with a Binge eating disorder too, and found that intuitive eating was the only way to recovery. I feel so amazing now. Food freedom is life changing. I promise you that your binging and restricting will not stop until you stop restricting and discover intuitive eating (Jillian is completely misrepresenting it here lol). I wish someone had told me this before I wasted 5 years of my life binging and restricting.
@oneinchrist53634 жыл бұрын
I can totally relate to your struggle with bingeing. Have you heard of the restriction-binge pendulum? The premise is that any type of restriction ie. dieting, your body experiences as starvation. So in order to protect you and save your life, you will find yourself bingeing, especially on high carb or sugary foods, as those are the quickest hits of easy-to-break down nutrients. I used to think I sucked with will-power, but it was actually my body fighting for me and primitive biological mechanisms taking over and over-riding my discipline to help me survive. Your body doesn't know you have a fridge full of food and that you are simply choosing to eat less. It actually thinks you are in danger. If you find yourself feeling out of control around food, becoming fixated with food or always thinking about food, that is your body trying to save you by pushing you to eat! I started IE 4 months ago and have not had a binge episode since. I hope you can find freedom! It's an incredible change and everyone deserves this freedom!

I have a lot of skeletal and joint issues... many many surgeries. I used to be very active all my life and I’m 31. But, this has made working out tricky. Any advice for those of us with significant physical limitation? Doctors keep giving me cortisone shots and I’m trying to keep my calories low, but I can tell I’m gaining weight rapidly from not moving and from the extra cortisone. I try to eat mostly Autoimmune Paleo since it helps with pain.
@allanahhickey5564 жыл бұрын
I tried it awhile ago and yes it was nice to be able to eat whatever I wanted but food was still controlling me, because if I thought about the food I had to eat it so I still had no control. I gained quite a lot of weight. I’m sure it can work for some people but I just went all out

I think intuitive eating only works on people who don’t have food addictions, don’t have metabolic issues, don’t have an eating disorder, and are already at (or close to) their ideal weight. If you told me to intuitively eat when I was 220 pounds, I’d only have gotten bigger. I wasn’t really an emotional eater, I just grew up in an obese household, so it was just bad eating habits and I ate out of boredom. Now I’m around 125-130 pounds and have maintained my weight loss for 15 years. I have been intuitively eating for the past couple years, but then, I am not addicted to food, I don’t have metabolic issues and I’m also a pretty active person. I don’t have ‘forbidden foods’, but the foods that I enjoyed as an obese teenager (mainly junk, deep fried and fast food) I just didn’t enjoy as much after losing weight 🤷🏻♀️ I don’t completely avoid fast food, and might crave KFC, Papa John’s, Baskin Robbins or Dunkin Donuts occasionally (those are my favorite guilty pleasures), but I don’t feel the need to eat it every week or even every month. Once every couple months the craving hits, and I indulge and enjoy, it doesn’t even matter because I eat healthy the rest of the time and move a lot.

Intuitive eating is great for people with eating disorders who are a "healthy" weight but are actually unhealthy because they keep starving themselves then binging then starving themselves again and so on. But I don't know if it would work for a morbidly obese person.
@nyanteea2264 жыл бұрын
I think Julian is missing good a few things here but one major thing is a lot of intuitive eating dietitians mention that when you give yourself that permission to eat whatever , you may over eat or eat the things you’ve been craving for a long time and restricting yourself on. However eventually they teach that you’ll be less likely to respond to your cravings and you’ll start having more natural signals to eat
@cmwau4 жыл бұрын
I’m watching this and Jillian is actually agreeing with a lot of the statements relating to intuitive eating, all she seems to be saying is build in a pause and consider how you feel having eaten .... don’t see why this is so contentious .... and for everyone with too restrictive diets there are a great deal more with poor health due to having no control and over eating e.g. as a major cause of type 2 diabetes
@cheddarbiscuits62202 жыл бұрын
Intuitive eating is not something everyone can do (especially for people who live in first world, junk food saturated nations). I absolutely have a sugar addiction and crave candy, sugary sodas, cookies- like all the time. Occasionally I will eat healthy food, but for the most part my diet is filled with junk. I need to have a hard line when it comes to food, otherwise my addiction will just take over.
