How would you describe RF01 300 vs Shift 300 for an average amateur player?

I like the format of these racquet tests a lot better than any other channel I’ve watched. Somehow feels more real, showing the actual test shots gives great context. I feel like other review channels shy away from actually showing themselves playing, or the shots they show are more cherry-picked.

It’s important to play points. I want to showcase how my opinion on a racquet can change from the initial no pressure hitting to the adrenaline fueled point play.

@@IntuitiveTennis and actually seeing that in progress. So many times you get a review and it’s based on that person‘s description of how they think they play. Everyone’s racquet preference is so personal this at least shows us the process so we can apply that ourselves when testing our own racquets. It’s like being coached how to test a racquet instead of being told what is best.

EASILY the best format for tennis rackets review. Multiple versions at the same time, and real time thoughts during match play puts your review above any other styles! Keep it up! If you can randomise the order and do two rounds for each racket (maybe shorten the tibreak to 5), I think that can help with the validity of your assessment.

Awesome choice with the Shift 300. I demoed both 300 and 315 versions and preferred the 300 version more with the more open pattern. Of course I'm way lower in level than you but I find it an easy racket to use once you get past that first strange feel. I put some weight at 10/2 and a leather grip according to some people on the forums and it opened up the racket way more, has a plush feel and it's VERY stable at the net and serve returns. Not sure why even though it's a spin/power racket but I find it to have some of the best control of a lot of rackets I demoed too

I switched to the shift pro. Played with it for a year and just added a leather grip. Can’t believe I didn’t add one sooner. It gives it the perfect balance and it’s now the perfect racket (for me). Highly recommend a leather grip on the pro

Fantastic video, impressed with the way it ended. Why? The Blade Pro 16x19 is a fantastic racquet (10g lighter than Shift Pro unstrung, with a 332 SW strung); great for hour one, a liability in a longer match and difficult to maneuver at net. Consider Demoing the new Head Extreme line, Extreme Tour especially (color was a deal breaker for me but you might not mind it). As for the Shift, preferred the 99 (300g) too.

As a fed fan, have played with blx, every version of pro staffs, last year tried Shift pro V1 and have not looked back. This racket is an extension of your arm and follows what you want it to do. Out of my 8 pro staff 340 gms rackets, 3 blx rackets and one shift pro v1 racket, I always pick the shift. Have been playing with it for more than a year so yea you gotta try it.

Nikola… I am a big fan of the Shift. I play & teach with the T-Fight 305 ISO. I think you might like the TF40 with its swing weight of 328… can choose between 16 / 19 or 18 / 20. I am suggesting the TF40 because it has great control just like the T-Fight. The T-Fight has a swing weight of 338… what can I say I love the plow through and can redirect the power 😊🎾

Wilson shift 300 is fantastic on reach shots and especially the reverse forehand. A lot of control when hitting dipping passing shots especially off the forehand thanks to the way you have to whip the ball up with the wrist and this is where the vertical flex of the racquet helps you out. It does have a major weakness which is that it’s a little shifty on the topspin rally shots where sometimes you don’t want it to launch too high because it sails long, so you have to aim less deep or just use the reverse forehand more

It was very interesting to hear your opinion about the Shift. I had some tennis elbow problems and was searching for a new racket and the Shift was the only racket with which it stopped hurting after my second play with it, so of course I changed to it, eventhough I did not play better than my previous racket. Strangely though I absolutely lost my backhand, even though it was my stronger shot previously. I had no control on volleys as well, but was happy with my serve. Now I play with the blade v9, the 100 inch and i am very happy with it with a couple of grams on 9 and 3

You mentioned it might not be visible that your serves were faster when you moved up from the 285 to 300, but before you said that I immediately noticed the difference on the video. Out of all the rackets you tried so far including the bolt, technifibre, etc. the two heavier shifts looked the most natural and comfortable in your hands.

Bought the Shift Pro last week after a 2 week play test and absolutely love it, my new favourite racket! First time I've played with something this heavy, usually play with 300 grams, and that extra plow through and stability returning hard serves makes a lot of difference. Was surprised how much spin I get out of a tight 18x20 string pattern. The arm does start to get a bit tired after around 90 minutes of playing though!
@18yearsoldnot
@18yearsoldnot Ай бұрын
I got the 300 customised to 320g. The reason I did that was to add silicone in the handle and also the more open pattern was softer. One thing you could try is changing the grip to either Wilson shockshield or babolat excel grip. Also I tried using a multifilament hybrid which actually lasts longer than my poly hybrid! Technifibre triax on the mains and babolat xalt on the crosses. Minimal notching and impressive spin - not as much as the poly but adds another dimension to the shift which is the feel on volleys and boosts the power of the serve even more
@Mrmelody85
@Mrmelody85 Ай бұрын
@18yearsoldnot . Good to know! I've always been a bit afraid to customise my rackets. Experimented with lead tape at 3 and 9, but always end up changing the balance, and it never feels quite right. Not sure how to add silicone to the handle, will have to look that up!

Thank you for the interesting review! I have two questions: 1, have you ever considered using a more control-oriented racquet with a more lively and arm-friendly string instead of a stiff, powerful racquet with a stiff, dead poly? Second, have you tried testing the racquets from heaviest to lightest? I think it's easier to adjust your timing for a faster racquet on the fly than it is to speed everything up when you switch to a heavier / slower frame.
@IntuitiveTennis
@IntuitiveTennis Ай бұрын
I’m willing to give control racquets a try (I generally don’t like them). Im set on the type of strings I like. As far as playing with the heaviest version first: I think it’s more realistic approach to test heaviest last when there more exhaustion. If I test heavy first and like it, it might be misleading since I’m fresh. Racquet needs to be playable when body is tired.

🎾🎾Check out the video "Andy Roddick Wilson racket reveal." He tests the entire Wilson line according to the specs of his older racket (weight, grip, tension). He eventually picks the Shift. Tennisnerd came out with the same pick as yours.

@@IntuitiveTennis I mean you can add weight to the 300 to bring it up closer to the weight of the pro. But if you chose the pro, you couldn’t remove the weight to bring it down to the 300. So I thought you made a good choice.

Question: what’s your preference on HH vs HL. Over time I added weight to the head of my racket and today I play with a head heavy racket : when I switch back to the same racket HL always find it too light overall and too slow carrying thru so I stick with hh. I noticed all these rackets are still HL: any thoughts on this? Is that something you may look to further customize once final racket is chosen?

My racket is a 315g Pro Staff 97 v13, but as I’m looking for a more maneuverable one I tested the Shift Pro for a week. Despite their same unstrung weight, it was clear that the Shift is way more manageable, especially when you are late in the preparation. It was easier to put more topspin on my one handed backhand. The serve seemed to have more speed without loosing precision. I still would like to try the 300g to compare the string patterns. I felt like 18x20 is too dense for what the racket proposes to deliver, but it definitely gives a great control, despite not being as high as the PS97.

Judging by the size and thickness, it looks to be a control racquet?
@johncharles2357
@johncharles2357 Ай бұрын
Control rackets have thinner beams and low RA ratings. The Shift has a somewhat thick 23.5mm beam and a pretty high 68 RA. So, it is not a control oriented racket. It is marketed as a spin and power racket.

Hi, Nick. Unrelated question: How much experience do you have with doubles? I feel like it's the only thing missing tennis-wise on your channel, even though you've been doing it for quite some time. Do you dislike it for some reason, or feel your knowledge on it is not as good as singles?
