brandy is a petite brand made for people who can’t find clothes that fit them in normal stores. they are not body shaming anyone they make clothes for smaller people so they don’t have to wear clothes that don’t fit. they are also not one size fits all they are one size there’s a difference one size fits all intends that it will fit everyone but one size implies it only comes in one size as for the “oversized” things it’s not a size it’s a cut/style some people like thing to have a looser fit that’s why some i teams say oversized fit

Brandy Melville would do better by just marketing themselves as a “petite person” store, just like Torrid does well marketing themselves as a plus size store because that’s who they cater to. If Brandy Melville wants to cater to small people, that’s all well and good but just say that. Don’t market yourself as “one size fits most”. It’s just dishonest. I suspect they label their sizes that way because they know they aren’t going to reach very many demographics by labeling everything as a small/x small. They want heavier people’s money but they don’t want to make clothes for them. I think they label themselves “one size” because they’re banking on bigger girls buying their stuff without trying it on first. Same motivation as Abercrombie and Fitch, who said they don’t want big girls wearing their clothes.

As someone who has a small frame and was underweight as a teenager, I would've highly appreciated this brand. I grew up in a place where it was impossible to find clothing so small and had to shop in the kids' section. When all your friends can get fun adult clothes it makes you very self-conscious to be left behind. I still can fit into the Brandy tops and I am 25 now and considerably heavier. You can imagine the struggle as a kid. However, I do not agree with their marketing and the clique community that formed around this brand. They should take an approach similar to the H&M Divided line which is advertised for teenagers and caters to small-sized individuals openly. This masquerade of one-size-fits-all when it clearly designed not to is disgusting and needs to stop.

I love the divided line from H&M! 30 now and people still mistake me for a teenager if I don't dress up as I'm thin and small. A few months ago, I had to buy a bus pass and was asked whether it was for school (students under 25 get a discount). It's really hard to find adult clothes that fit me, often than not, I have to look at teenager's section. I rarely can find any pants that fits me.

I see a lot of people commenting if there are plus size stores why can’t brandy be for small girls and I don’t think that is the point the girls were making the whole video... yes it was one of their points and it’s fine to have a store like that but when Sinead said she was an XS and the clothes still didn’t fit is where she was saying there are issues. I will agree that if Brandy wants to sell to only smaller size that’s fine but I don’t get why they even have a medium then or and oversized category... just market everything XXS XS and S and call it a day. When your normal size is a medium and you don’t fit into the clothes it makes you feel bad. They have a problem with how they label their sizes and how the sizes fit for the labels they give.

Exactly. To add to this, plus size stores exist because stores didn’t carry plus size clothing. It’s like asking why black colleges exist. They exist out of necessity. This brand seems to want to cater to only small framed people because that’s their “aesthetic.”

I still think that would be gross - plus size stores still stock a huge range of sizes. There's no store out there for just a 22, and anyone who doesn't fit that isn't welcome. And plus size stores only exist to cover what isn't covered in straight sizes. Dividing almost all women into 2 rough types with a lot of overlap (and pretty frequent calls for more integration) is nowhere near as toxic as creating a brand and trying to make it aspirational but you can only be one size, no smaller, no bigger and god help you if your weight fluctuates.

@@meryssosa4427 I said this already in a comment below. It's the marketing and other racism things behind the scenes that are the issues. They say "one size fits all" but that does not exist. If you can't fit into their "one size fits all" you feel like shit. However, (like I already said down there in the comment) if they wanted to market it to thinner girls specifically for clothing that looked good on their bodies, that is different. Don't market one size fits all and only make tiny clothes. They need to get a better marketing team bc the current ones suck. It probably only looks big on you whereas its supposed to look like you are drowning. Look up these youtubers that are size 0 and 6. They do a try on haul and while the oversized item looks big on the size 6, it doesn't look as cute as it does on the size 0 because she's DROWNING in it and that's the style.

Your friends should be going in to the stores you like too! When I go shopping with friends that are plus sized we go to plus size stores for them and straight sized stores for me. @MadisonM1

There’s so much privilege with being straight sized that sometimes you don’t realize you’re excluding someone who is not a straight size. You’re used to being able to walk into most stores to find something cute. But people should notice when you leave the mall empty handed, having not tried anything on. I can’t wear the clothes at Torrid but you bet my ass is strutting in with my friends picking out things I think would look great on them and getting excited to see the outfits they love on themselves. Because they’d do the same for me. And clothes shopping is such a scary fucking feeling for so many that sometimes you need that. I have walked into stores that I thought were inclusive with friends and asked if they liked something and they said they don’t carry their size. My ass walks back out with them until we find a store they like that works for them. I just hate you’ve been excluded from shopping with your friends and although I know it happens to a lot of people I hope you find a group that gets you or tries to accommodate you the way I’m sure you’ve had to accommodate your friends while shopping. You deserve that and you’re beautiful.

I keep seeing people in the comments asserting that Brandy Melville should be allowed to “cater to smaller sizes” because of the existence of plus size stores-but, the problem with that argument is that Brandy Melville does NOT cater to all smaller-sized women. Brandy Melville only caters to women between the sizes of 0-2, and occasionally 4. If you are a size 00 or 000, you won’t be able to fit into the majority of their jeans. On the other hand, plus size stores such as Torrid typically cater to women between the sizes of 10-30. That is an amazing size range. Brandy Melville only caters to one or two sizes, and if y’all want to call them a petite-size store, they need to up their size-range game and provide some actually tiny sizes. Because at this point in time, they aren’t a petite-size store, they are an “ideal size 0-4 ONLY” store. ☕️

Yeah I know petite doesn’t mean small. I’m petite myself (in height) but I wear a size 6. I also know that a lot of people (incorrectly) use that term for describing smaller-sizes clothes and, when I wrote my original comment, I couldn’t think of a better term to use that would be considered the opposite of “plus-sized store.” Because saying “straight-sized store” would imply that it carries sizes 0-12 or something like that. I feel like.. when it comes to plus size, nobody says anything that the stores are only for curvy girls. I know plus size girls have a hard time finding the right clothes but it goes the same way with very skinny girls. Sometimes they have to buy things from the kids store. So I think it’s a nice idea to have a store for the skinny girls that have a hard time finding cute clothes in their size. But the fact that they say oversized for anything that is not an XS or S is indeed very stupid. It annoys me, because every size is beautiful. I don’t know a plus size store that has clothes named undersized. Conclusion.. I do like the idea that there is a store for skinny girls just as like the idea that there is a store for plus size girls. But their attitude makes me think that was not their intention.. sadly.

I feel like they would have more customers if they marketed to their target audience size wise, as a lot of smaller ppl are actively looking for clothing that fits well

@@JaxiXD210XD petite means cuts for women 5’4 and under. There are petite plus sizes, but yeah I understand

@@squashforsale8466 ah, I am petite but also don't know exactly what is considered "petite" because most places that I shop at, I just go for straight sizes (I'm pretty average I think). but looking at it that way, BM does cater to a pretty small audience as I know a lot of women under/around 5'4 who can't comfortably fit into their clothes bc of body type or shape. thanks for letting me know!

Brandy bothers me because it’s like they’re saying only certain people can wear their things and if they can’t fit in them then they’re not like “cool enough” for them. In all reality, every body type and weight is beautiful, and they’d make more money if they extended their sizes so really... one size fits all only places are only fooling themselves.

Thank you so much for making this video. Growing up and being at that young age I was so depressed because I couldn’t fit in Brandy Melville‘s clothes, it put me in a very depressive place in mind when it came to my physical body at the young age of 12 and not being able to fit in anything.

I agree there should be more sizes. When I was at my smallest struggling with weight, I could count on brandy when other stores wouldn’t fit me. It can be viewed as an equivalent to a plus size store but the other way around. I do think they need to understand sizing though and how to treat customers and store workers.

yes exactly! i think brandy should be more size inclusive but i shop there because a lot of other stores clothes are way too big for me.

I think that’s great! But then I think it would be better if they advertise as a store for petite women instead of pretending their clothes fits everyone bc that can really mess w/ ppls head especially since this store is mainly for younger girls and they tend to struggle the most w/ their self confidence

Plus size stores don't just carry one size though. They usually go from like 12 to 28 or 30, that is a wide range. If this wants to be a "petites" store then they should still have individual sizes XXS, XS, and S at the very least. and maybe some length options too because a lot of women who wear those XS sizes are under 5'4" tall

i agree with u. im skinny as hell, like 79-84 lbs and 5’4. im always told im too skinny, though im perfectly healthy. im also very young. i barely find any clothes that fit on me. i do feel happy that Brandy Melville fits me. it’s one of the stores that actually carry my size.

Love how honest you girls were about this brand. Even at age 30, it’s hard to find clothes without feeling judged in this generation. I’m usually a medium but I have pretty big hips and its become super hard to fit into shirts that don’t fit like crop tops and pants unless they are a size large...and I’m quite petite. So it’s always a bit of a miss when I purchase clothes. It truly does send a bad message to our youth and I wish this could get fixed somehow. Thank you Clever for making this video. It made me feel less alone. And less judged. 😘

I LOVE that they addressed the issue of sizing with certain places. It’s so WHACK to me how some of these places get away with what they do. Thank you CLEVVER and you lovely ladies for talking about this and encouraging body positivity! Please to anyone out there just know that you are BEAUTIFUL regardless of your size!!! 💞

i personally wear brandy melville and i love their clothes. i think that this brand is just meant for “smaller” people. just like there are places for “bigger” people. oversized is not meant to be offensive bc it is oversized on “smaller” people. i just think this brand is for a certain body type just like stores like torrid are for a different body type. the clothes there wouldn’t fit me but that’s okay bc i know it is meant for a different body type.

stores like torrid are made for women because regular stores dont carry 1XL 2XL so on and so forth regular stores carry a small extra small medium so there is no reason for the store to not be inclusive

Thank you for being honestly I am”plus sized” and it hard for me as an adult to not feel bad about my body when I can’t find cute things that fit me but I also have a daughter who is bigger then a lot of girls her age and it so sad that so many brands and things put a certain size to cute trendy things
