@@mike619 personally, I think investing in index funds is a good choice even for Americans earning 50k per year. But that comes with several caveats about personal finance. Can they pay down their debt? Do they have the ole Dave Ramsey emergency fund of a thousand to couple thousand dollars to be protected from further debt? If so, I think it is immensely prudent to at least get the matching 401k rate or at least aim to invest 15 percent of their income into a roth ira or at least 529 plan if they're aiming to improve their skills in the coming decade.

Love the video! There's so much more that could be said! A couple quick thoughts: 1) for ETF investing, if you intend to contribute frequently (like monthly) you should find a broker with no (or very small) ETF purchase fees. Some brokers charge a bunch of money for a transaction which then makes the low ETF management fees almost meaningless. 2) Your portfolio is indeed good for your age and also the length of time until you want to use the money (also called time horizon). However, my personal suggestion would be to increase the allocation to the ex-USA ETF(s?) and decrease the allocation to the US ETF(s?) - that's still a lot of eggs in one basket. Diversification is not only a broad array of individual stocks, it is also geography.

Not sure what it is for electrical engineering but right now it’s Austin Tx for software. (Ps, I have a degree in aerospace but had to pivot to software to take advantage of the global trend). Come to think of it, any area with lots of data centers. Those huge data centers that run amazon, google and facebook’s servers. I did a consultation with one of them last fall and the manager mentioned it being an under the radar booming trend. Hope this helps

I am in my 60's and wish I had this advice when I was much younger! A couple of points that you could make perhaps in another video are these. First, when you are young, you obviously want to buy as many shares of an index fund as you can, yet you have limited funds. And of course it's always fun to watch the value of your portfolio to go up. But one shouldn't get discouraged if the value doesn't go up much and even sometimes goes down. Why? Because inevitably if history continues the market will deliver a nice return over a long period of years, but while it isn't going up, this allows you to buy more shares each month! And a follow on to this. Inevitably the market is going to make some big, sometimes huge drops over the years. Many amateurs panic and sell. This is the worst thing you can do! Look at those drops again as an opportunity to buy more shares at cheaper prices! Thanks for your videos and good luck!

One thing I don't understand: how does it track the index? For example, if today I buy 1000$ of an index fund that tracks the S&P 500, does it translate today's index in percentage; then it allocates the money accordingly? If today's best company is 20%, it uses 20% of 1000$ to buy in that company's share. If the worst company is 1%, it only uses 1% of 1000$ ? Then the next day, the index changes. Does the stock distribution change again ? I would like to see the distribution of stocks you guys see in your Vanguard account.

I’m living pay check to pay check and getting a second job is out of the question because of school. I can’t drop out because that’ll be another payment coming out of me considering my job is paying a majority of my schooling for me. Besides paying off my car, I have no debt. Refuse to get a credit card at all to avoid more payments coming out of me. But I’m just wondering what advise you would give to someone who makes 34g a year and how much would investing start at. There are actually studies that have shown that stock picking (i.e. active) fund managers on average don't outperform the market (for example: "Luck versus Skill in the Cross-Section of Mutual Fund Returns " by Fama & French). If you are a complete beginner who does not know much about trading, I recommend you to invest in ETFs (which essentially are what she is talking about in this video). And even as an advanced investor, it never hurts to have some money invested in ETFs for better diversification. The more negatively correlated assets you have, the lower your idiosyncratic risk.

This was amazing, I'm glad I found your videos. My question is, for a person who cannot invest 50% of their salary like you do, what percentage do you suggest they start with?

Graham Stephan has an awesome channel with tips for this but savings suggestions are 20% so if you can do 20% of your income great! If not then pick a reasonable amount to consistently invest each month

Depends on your age. If you’re still under 30 and have no family commitments you still have lots of time.. and energy. you can pay for a certification (software, healthcare, trades) and bump up your income to six figures within 6 months. That’ll make saving 50% so easy.. and you still get to do whatever you want with the rest.

@Hazetbafoon For people that don’t know, this video is half correct and half inaccurate. The Greeks matter a lot too and not just delta and theta. Greeks all together will give you a clue of the worth of the risk, not to mention spreads, volatility, open interests & volume. those all dictate how liquid the option is for you to get in and out without having a big spread which can lead you to a guaranteed loss. my advice to beginners, dont take these strategy videos seriously, get a good professional to help you. you can make great profits fast, but you can lose it all even faster w h a t s a p +4 3 6 8 8 6 4 8 9 6 8 8 6

A big part of investing is information really. On top of fundamental nor Technical analysis, which makes the difference between successful and average investors is having the best insights, insider information. You don't need to predict the future if you know who makes the future. Many information streams are mentioning the coming crash of the banking system or the disappearance of fiat currencies, how will this affect the market in a few months, years from now? I would suggest you look deeply at the crypto-currency market too, based on your age and your long term plan, that's where you want to be. Wish you all the success.

Well if the market goes down, you can buy shares for cheap. That's the advantage of it. You have to be very disciplined not to pull out your money when it goes down, for it will go back up again. Just apply dollar-cost-avaraging and leave it alone.
