In my video investing strategies for beginners to advanced, I examine four proven investing strategies, each one suitable for a different level of investing experience.
You wouldn't try and fly a commercial airliner after just one flying lesson, well the same applies to investing in the stock market. In this video, I will explain how you can start off simply with just one fund and then build up to something more advanced with complex asset allocation.

Hi Ramin, I'm new to investing and love your videos. In this video you mention you have just three funds in the core of your portfolio - do you have a video in which you go into what funds these are, and what percentage you allocate to each?

Great video Ramin. 100% on core and satellite investing. The majority in a cheap, well diversified fund and just follow the theory. Then smaller amounts to stay engaged (if you enjoy it) and take a view as you see fit. Really good work with these videos. On youtube we need more of this type of educational content and less of "why I'm buying airline stocks and crypto"

Would it be best to invest in something like a Vanguard tracker or go with an Investment Manager and pay fees?
@tomquinn9765
@tomquinn9765 3 жыл бұрын
It depends - if you want someone to take the burden of responsibility off your shoulders, go for it. However, you'll be paying a lot (and losing future value) through fees. Setting up an ISA with Vanguard is simple, and pick one fund you can set and forget, like lifestrategy or target retirement, which fits your risk profile and investment horizons.

Hi Ramin, Another great video, many thanks. Do you plan to have a look at UK investment trusts at all? Many seem to generate good alpha against their benchmarks, have some dividend protection and costs are not extreme (for the more well known funds at least). I'd be interested on your overview of the sector.
@simplydividends

Hi Ramin, wonder if you could help answer a question I have. If I had an investment account (not an ISA) and I receive dividends periodically, if I chose to re invest these dividend payments without withdrawing them into my personal account (keep them in my investment account), would I still have to count this towards my dividend income each year? Many thanks
@desida50
@desida50 3 жыл бұрын
If you have Invest account, not in ISA, you will not pay any taxes on dividends, when they are less than £2000 per year. But if you take money out, you will have to pay taxes on this money.

You mention thematic investing as a satellite fund e.g. investing in a certain theme that you feel may play out in future. Would buying into a fund that tracks industries that had large falls during the covid crisis be an example of this? e.g. buying into an index fund or etf tracking oil companies because their shares dropped due to covid 19 as a result of decreased demand for oil. However over the long term I expect oil prices to increase and thus share values to also increase as the world starts to require more oil as more people start travelling again after covid 19 I remember your video where you mentioned the 2008 crisis. The industries that had the largest decline at start of a crisis, had the largest gains during the recovery e.g. the financial industry in 2008 Therefore I was thinking of having a small satellite fund which buys into industries when no one wants them but I believe will rebound in the long term as a means of buying into an industries future earnings on the cheap e.g. oil during the 2020 crisis Does this make sense or have you done videos on this type of concept?

General strategy is to actually start putting money away after non-mortgage debts have been cleared. So many people either can't afford or don't want to make the commitment. Personally to keep me involved I do have a collection of individual shares. Usually bought in chunks when I've time to take a more detailed look. The vast majority however is sitting in VLS100 and Global Small Cap.
@Pensioncraft
@Pensioncraft 3 жыл бұрын
Hi e1001ewaste I agree that if you're loaded up with debt where you're paying a high rate it makes sense to pay that off before you invest. But you can do both at the same time, and some people do choose to do that. I guess your strategy is a bit core-satellite with LS100 and small caps as the core and your stocks as the satellite? Thanks, Ramin

Hi Chris Vanguard pays me nothing. I'm funded primarily by my community via Patreon and KZbin which is probably a good thing as it allows me to be more objective. But if you watch more of my videos you'll see I discuss funds from many providers. It just happens to be the case that Vanguard has some of the lowest cost multiasset funds. I did a side-by-side comparison with MyMap pensioncraft.com/blackrock-mymap-vs-vanguard-lifestrategy and a video comparing lots of multi-asset funds kzbin.info/www/bejne/p3vFq3ebjZtjaqM Thanks, Ramin.

They have good products that are generally the easiest option for the average punter to understand and can be 'bought' direct. Other funds can be cheaper or 'better' but then the novice is hit with what platform to go for and questions like am I better with an ETF etc due to charges. Sure there may be some 'bias' because Ramin personally uses Vanguard 🤷‍♂️

I started investing in single shares in 2013, could do no wrong at that time. HATED my job at a large US debt collection firm. Couple that with a desire to make more money, broke the rule of investing only in high quality companies. Bought Blinx, no stop loss allowed, not allowed to check phone or computer at work due to compliance/data protection rules and remember walking out at lunchtime and seeing -40% drop in Blinx. Was rather glad I learned this lesson in my youth. It cost me £400.00 but in a way it woke me up to how dangerous investing in single shares can be. I ended up selling some of my computers and possessions to cover the loss to teach myself NOT to do it again!
