For me, the best hauler isn't something that people see as a hauler: the Orca. I shield tank it, I have two shield bursts and a DC2. With my skills it has over 400k EHP and if I overheat the shield tanks, it squeeks to just over 500k EHP. Combine that with 200m3 of drones and you can give them a bad day. My cargo bay is about 25k m3, the fleet bay is 40k m3 and the ship maintenance bay is 400k m3 (you can transport fully fitted ships in this bay!) Oh and don't forget the mining hold of 180k m3. If you have the skills, why would you use anything else?

Orca's are over 2 billion now so people might gank it just for the KM. Difference is a DST can do a cloak + MWD trick to effectively be immune from cargo scanners. Orca does not have the same luxury.

On an orca you're actually better off not using shield extenders and just adding in shield hardeners. Basically, the Orca has a lot of base shield HP and no bonuses to shield extender HP like battleships. A T2 LSE will increase raw shield HP on an orca by less than 10%, where a shield hardener even with stacking penalties will be able to beat that in terms of EHP gain.

Several comments - From all my experimentation, the best hauler is the Mastodon. Reaches 151k EHP heated with shield extenders / shield rigs, DCII + 3 x Inertia Stabs in lows. It has a normal warp of 10 sec. In null, low sec, you will get scrammed and will die if you dont use MWD / Cloak which reduces your warp to zero and makes you unlockable for the mwd cycle time. If you add nirvanas to your travels, you will have 200k ehp. And all of the above is with T2 hardeners. If you use deadspace stuff, your EHP will reach 251k!!

DUDE!!!!! This fit literally just saved me!! I was webbed,scrammed and nuted but I was able to slow boat back to gate and jump out!!!! They barely got into the armor. Thanks man!!! 🤘QUICK ADDENDUM: I bravely/stupidly went back through about 15 minutes later. I swapped the plates for a stab and when I jumped through (they tried again 👹) I was this time able to warp through to my next gate. So, I'd say: Drop the plate and fit a warp core stabilizer.

So its a year old you probably learned about the cloak mwd trick by now, but if you havent, it will also stop people from cargo scanning you (minimizes ganks somewhat). And makes it very very very hard for catching you. Sort of must use for going in to LS imo

Thanks for a very informative video, i have been using my Viator for years to transport up to 13k M3 of stuff (mainly ore and 10k ship hulls) with the spec ops cloak but needed a fairly safe hauler for things around 50k ( like a porpoise hull) this video helped me choose the Occator and showed how to keep fairly safe (Eve is never totally safe but safer is better).😁

That, +I feel like Occator is actually more effective with Faction Hardeners, rather than Reactive+Membrane. Faction DCU can stay there, if you like, but for how cheap True Sansha or Serpentis hardeners are - it's a waste not to grab them. 2 Explosive, 1 EM and 1 Therm hardener will give you equally insane EHP, for a fraction of the cost. Also - cloak+mwd, even with Interdiction nullifier, will hardly be a detriment for a seasoned camper in Null. Decloaking is much easier done on slow, fat ships like haulers, which actually makes Viator the safer option in Null imho. Align times matter, and they matter a lot. Even with bubbles in the equation.

I had a different Occator fitting but you haven't steered me wrong to I am going to invest in it and give it a try flying 700 mil to Jita vs multi trips which is how I would normally do it.

occator can be allright, but it dont beat the viator. they cant kill what they cant catch, but they can only hold up towards 13k m3, so better used for smaller m3 stuff with higher value. barely anyone gonna bother gank a occator full or trit to put it that way

Think 7k ehp less is a better trade off personally given 1 module is more than the value of the ship on OPs fit. But that very much a pick or choose and experience fit. Deadspace or Implants would also be very good choice given assets value and frequency of travels. A must I would say for WH groups.

I got a nice DST tonight too \o/ WH / NULL ADVICE To answer your question from your other Hauler video, my answer would be: Forget tank , all about align time, even for DST (mwd+cloak trick) The faster you can get off is the best way to survive - If you get caught , tank doesn't matter , your being held , eventually their alts or buddies will get there , Your 100k EHP Tank is just delaying the inevitable. High Sec different story obviously Great vids though keep it up

As an added means of tanking in an armor ship there is also the set of Amulet implants (these are for a passive tank) and I always try to remember to use this clone when flying my Impel. I use mid-grade but I'm very tempted to go the whole hog for a high-grade set. I figure I'm worth it 🙂

Guessing it might have just been a slip of the tongue, but you called it an active tank. It's not, this is passive. You've given yourself as big of a buffer as you can, but without any repair modules, you're unable to actively repair any damage taken. 👍

Depends on the situation, there is never a one-size-fits-all fix. I mainly use this fit in highsec/lowsec

Why does this fit prevent the cloak/mwd warp combo? I can no longer insta warp with the cloak like I did in previous fit. However, if I attempt the same situation with your fit without activation of the cloak, it works as intended.

Short answer: the MWD is under sized for the ship. If you pulse the MWD you will align faster, but it doesn't do the mwd cloak trick

This has had me scratching my head for longer than I want to admit. I have come to the conclusion, that this should not be used because it's fitted with a 5MN MWD. In my opinion, it should use a 50MN MWD for the MWD-cloak trick to work. This mechanic DOES NOT work with a 5MN MWD. If you don't want to use the MWD-cloak trick, you can use this fit. But that's a silly idea, isn't it?

in short: you need a 'correct size' MWD to do the cloak trick.... BUT you can just use an AB, and pulse it one time, to get a faster align. Chose either: cloak warp, or fast warp. Hope that helps!

i'm like 99.8% sure that you can't do the cloak trick with a 5mw MWD. you can do the "pulse" yes .. but that also means you will be visible for full 10 sec. that's 10 sec. somone with 2 alts in 500k tristans can make sure you not going to warp. you need 0 ehp if noone can see you ;)
