Welcome to the Heavy Spoilers show, I'm your host Paul and for the last time this year we're breaking down.

The final episode of the first part of season 2 has just dropped and throughout this video we're gonna be breaking down the easter eggs, connections to the comics and everything you need to know. I also spoke to Co-Showrunner Simon Racioppa about what happened in this entry and some of the themes so make sure you stick around for that.

Ok so predominantly this entry takes place around Issue 26 to 30. Though there are other elements that are a part of it those are the main points that we're gonna be covering if you're interested in the comics.
Now the mid point of issue 26 has Nolan recapping where his journey took him at the end of season 1. That's actually where we actually begin here and to the sounds of Avalanche by Nick Cave we watch him journeying across the stars. The song was originally written by Leonard Cohen with him basing it off a poem that he wrote when he was younger. In the comics we get the conflict really spelled out for us with Omni-man discussing how he felt upon refusing to kill Mark.
He even said that he knew Mark was weak and had to die and that that was the viltrumite way.

If they follow the comics mark is far from being a strong and skilled Viltrumite in this part, what is understandable, as he is too young and not trained in combat. But they already changed that and made Mark way stronger compared to the comics in this fight, so I think they thought a protagonist getting suddenly op, from nothing, is better for the views, more appealing. You could argue it was his emotions and maybe an adrenaline, even so it doesn't justify for now his strength. This make things too easy and boring for him already being able to fight this well against viltrumites way older and experienced in combat. Thula, for exemple was supposed to be way better than this. In the comics at least he goes through hell and takes a lot of time to build his might. It feels kinda rushed for now, but its soon to say, lets see.

I loved nolan crying to mark about the fact he cares about the thraxians. He doesn't understand the feeling of compassion, so he just translates it to anger. Once he realizes he did to earth what the viltrumites are doing to the thraxians, he really got it.

I absolutely LOVED the detail of Nolan at the black hole almost allowing himself to be consumed by the black hole as a form of killing himself, only stopping when he sees the ship. It really shows how ashamed of himself (for leaving earth as well as hurting mark/not hurting mark) and confused he feels. I also was so hyped to see mark getting his ass beat senseless and get the reality check from his dad in the middle of the fight. It really highlighted the stakes and how this isn’t your typical enemy, shit is life and death against a superior opponent. I also am grateful that they included the Art and Debbie arc from the comments. They added some amazing dialogue from what was done in the comics.

For the bridge scene, Eve was looking for someone to take out her anger and frustration on. She had multiple chances to end that fight but she kept on drawing it out to just keep punching someone. This results in the endangerment of 2 civilian lives making it all worse than just the guilt from the park tragedy. This leaves Eve desperate to know that she didn't kill these people.

She needs training/practice. Up until now she’s been very sloppy with her powers and just self-learning. I hope she starts training with the Guardians and doesn’t just give up.

Why didn't she go to where her father lost his job and fix everything there though? She probably didn't do it because the news will spread that she fixed everything and her dad would get to know that, and he's too damn proud to get back to his old job thanks to super-powers which he is so constantly against. He has good intentions, good father even, but stupid ideas that gets in the way of his fatherhood that hurts his relationship with Eve and even his wife.

There was a blink and you'll miss it moment in this episode where Nolan tells Mark to "Don't think"when prompting him to release some more of his potential during their battle. I thought it was a neat call back to the "think Mark!" moment during their season 1 battle

After Mark’s fight with Thula I realized that Viltrumites are pretty vulnerable to slicing attacks. They can take a major beating but a slice can put them down pretty quickly. I think the reason Nolan always chops immortal in half like he did with this other guy because he’s killed other Viltrumites in the great purge so he knew what to do

Agreed, her AND donald's screen-time were 999% needed. Not that i'm a fan of them but because it's the way that shows should make us care about smaller characters. The simpler the plot = the more time you can invest in developing characters. Brilliant screen plays by the team behind Invincible. I think Theo was a dumbass though (the guy who invited Debbie over for coping), unlike Olga who is just as much of a victim as Theo and understood Debbie's POV. "You should have". Yeah, Debbie should have known that Nolan was a psychopath from the start why the hell not. That doesn't make sense. Psychopaths are extremely hard to tell if not impossible. Theo should have not blamed Debbie on it.

The change of Nolan going towards the black hole to just kill himself and happening to save the thraxians, and become there people is SO MUCH better then the way they did it in the comics, because it makes Nolan an actual sympathetic character. that was something i always had an issue with, Nolan just left Earth to conquer another planet as a trade off for Earth, it was fucked up. But we were supposed to sympathise with him, and i couldn't, but the show really did well to show how fucked up he was and how much of this isn't him but the training in him.

People always replay that clip of nolan calling Debbie a pet. I feel like not enough people realize that nolan is lying to himself. In that moment he's saying what he thinks he should be saying because of who he is. But that's not what he actually believes he does. Love Debbie and mark and wishes. Things could have been different and he wishes. He made a different decision, but considering the decision he made his life on Earth is over. Nolan is a very complex character. But I feel like people understate ironically, enough a lot of the deeper meanings with him.

This type of stuff sometimes makes me understand why so many entertainment productions just make sure to make every single aspect of the story as clear and plain as it can be, because too much people just seem to miss stuff when things are nuanced and left up for the audience to get the clues and put things together... I doesn't make me like it and I think it makes for a worse product overall, but I understand the motive.

The other part is that Nolan didn't really want to conquer earth during this time. He wanted to live out Debbie and maybe Mark's life as a hero and only after they died would he go and conquer the earth cause those people meant everything to him.

It's mostly staging the clips and source material in the editing program, watching the episode while recording and taking notes, to then incorporate it into the video and do a voice over. Then you just render and shove it down the pipe

Those who haven't read comics, you have absolutely no idea how good it is going to get. (Spoilers) My one of the favourite parts from the comics is the Viltrumite prison phase, of (now heavily buffed after his beat down by the Viltrumites) Allen finding Nolan and Battle Beast there, Allen befriending Nolan and becoming bffs, Allen wrecking the prison facility built to contain several Viltrumites like a house of cardboards, like basically it took just one punch, Nolan and Allen watching Battle Beast go psycho on a Viltrumite and Nolan saying to Allen, "Is this guy real?" (Imagine a top-tier Viltrumite saying that, Battle Beast had went feral.) And then him recruiting Battle Beast and Nolan and taking them to the Coalition. I mean the whole story upto where Nolan fights Mark and leaves Earth seems mundane to what happens in the rest of the story, but if that part getting animated in season 1 was received this good, I can only imagine how much commotion this show will make with the future seasons.

What I find interesting about season 2 of invincible is that they're combining different elements from the comics together as one original page while staying true to the source material. That said I am kind of curious to see on how they're going to have it where Mark travels through the Multiverse and ends up encountering his evil doubles, but also other characters from Image Comics. 🤔 Like the Savage dragon, Spawn, and the WildC.A.T.S. even those from the Marvel Universe and which voice actors and actresses are they going to have for those crossover events if they do decide to do it.

The show completely changed how I look at the comic panel of Nolan kissing the bug...it wasn't that bad just looking at the comic .but now that they added the motion of their tongues and the slobbering sound made it so much more nasty..its funny how much a little sound or motion added to a picture can change how you look at it
