This is my first time to comment on a KZbin video, because I am really grateful for the information and experience you shared. Thank you so much for the practical tips, Jess! 👍🏻 I was super frustrated during the first week when I started my Invialign treatment. I began to doubt myself on why I committed to this treatment in the first place. When I felt like giving up, I came across your videos about the same struggle of taking off the trays. I would like you to know that your videos have been a life saver to me!! 😊 I am a rule follower, and I researched for orthodontic advice, but those did not work! 😭 It is such a blessing that your video provides very practical advice from a real case user. I cannot tell you how grateful I am to you for sharing these wonderful tips. 🙏🏻😊 As to the rules, I feel the exact same way. I am working at the office, and it's not convenient for me to floss and brush every time after eating. I do floss my teeth, and then rinse with saline water, before putting the trays back on during the day, when it's not possible for me to brush. I agree that I do brush thoroughly morning and night, and when I am at home. I used to eat in between meals, because I hate eating too full for each meal. With three meals a day, I feel passing out from starving in between meals. 🤢 Moreover, I could not wear the trays for 22 hours a day, no matter how hard I tried. 😔 I am in the range of 16-18 hours, same as yours. So when I heard that from you, it resonated with me. 🙂 About changing the trays, my orthodontist asked me to change every 2 weeks. But at times, I feel like my teeth are not ready for the next one yet. I agree we should listen to our body more and make sensible judgment, because every one is different. 😁 I am in my third tray now, and your videos are super helpful and practical. I wanted to give you a thumbs up for all you do. 👍🏻👍🏻Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. You have made a huge difference to other Invialign users like me, more than you know! 😊❤

Oh my goodness, this is the sweetest comment, Vannie!!! Thank you for this. I am so, so happy to hear my videos have been helpful. I think it's important to feel like others understand and can relate to your experience - so I'm super grateful for the little Invisalign community I've found on KZbin! It's made this journey so much easier. I really feel like I have friends going through it with me! Thank you so much for watching. I am wishing you the absolute best on your journey! Keep me updated :)

Very practical tips. I think the 22hr recommendation is given with the intention to have people hit at least 20hrs a day. I follow all rules like a psychopath lol, but I would agree that giving yourself flexibility will help keeping you compliant in the long term. Rather than being too stringent and ultimately giving up/switching to traditional braces, as many people do when they realize how annoying invisalign can be. My only suggestion/precaution with going under the recommended wear time is to be aware of potential bone loss. With not wearing trays consistently enough (teeth shifting back and forth more than intended), there is a chance of damage to the tooth root and loss of bone density. So just be careful. There's a whole science behind how the bone slowly recedes and rebuilds during the invislign process, so when you deviate from the plan it can screw that up. Your teeth will still get to the right place, but your bone just not may be as strong in the end. Worth looking into! The TrayMinder app has a bunch of great educational videos from Orthos that explain it in better detail than I can. I'm on tray 11 of 20 in my own journey. Best of luck to everyone and theirs!

So glad that you are still posting as I am at the 18 week of Invisalign and my Ortho just took new images to order the rest of the trays. I wouldn't have known what was going on and if this was normal if you hadn't taken the time to post videos. As far of the rules that I don't follow is I just don't floss each day. I do brush after each meal but if I am out and about I will just put the Invisalign back in without brushing. If I do this then I always clean them thoroughly once I get home. I have had both braces and now years later Invisalign and these are so easy and less painful.

I to do not brush my teeth and floss after every meal. Just morning and night like yourself. I was also told I should only drink water when I have the trays in but I find it too much of a hassle to take them in and out when I want to sip something other than water. I’m not too worried about stains as I’m only wearing the trays for two weeks at a time.

I understand it’s hard but you’re actually at higher risk of getting cavities if you don’t brush or floss after eating because all that bacteria is trapped under your retainers and it’ll interfere with your treatment. I hope this doesn’t happen to you but just saying, you have to make some sacrifices if you want straighter teeth !!

I can totally resonate with this video! In the beginning I tried to keep my trays in 22 hours, brush after every meal etc etc….3 months now and I’m drinking ice coffee with them in, not brushing/flossing after I eat, and sometimes forget to put them back in after I eat 😂

I’m glad you’re talking about your experience. I don’t have Invisalign yet but I am wanting it. And I have been trying to get in the habit of brushing my teeth more often just so I can be used to that and because some foods just leave an unbearable film in the mouth and no. 😫 But I have realized, like you, the way I eat changes day to day and depending on the time of the month. One week I’m snacking like my life depends on it. The next, I’m only eating main meals 🤷🏾‍♀️. I do see your point with the setting the bar high! I think for me I would start out doing really good. But then the Dr. Peppers, frappes, and caramel macchiato and French fries would call me back🤣🤣

Omg, I totally get it! I think it’s great you are preparing yourself ahead of time. You will probably do so much better at following the rules! In hindsight, the one rule I wish I had followed better is brushing my teeth every time after eating or drinking. Not doing this caused my teeth to stain quite a bit over time and it totally could have been prevented. Definitely something to keep in mind. Anyway, I wish you the best on your journey, Trisha! It sounds like you’re already on the right track 😊

I think your doing just fine with all your doing. I am doing Invisalign and I am also a dental assistant at the office where I am getting treatment. Basically I am doing what you are. My aligners are in and out all day, I eat often, many small meals( snacks) and just use mini picks to remove food in between and do a full floss\brush at beginning and end of the day. I do keep each tray in for at least 10 to 13 days. Some doctors have patients change every 7.

I've been able to follow every rule pretty well, but I can totally understand why it's not possible for everybody - especially when it comes to not brushing/flossing after eating at the office. The 22 hours of wear time is hard to hit because I'm a slow eater, but there's definitely some wiggle room with that.

I was very strict with mine. I would eat 2 meals a day to continue wearing it 22 hours a day. Was doing great. And then my doctor told me 20-22 is okay. And so I started slacking. Big time! I would leave it and sit down for an hour after lunch. And then my canine started not tracking 😂 so I’m back to commitment but it’s still not exactly 22 hours it’s probably just 21.

I'm on my refinements. I'm back to only drinking water and having them out two hours a day. I gained some weight. So I need that Invisalign diet. Haha. I have a 30 minute lunch at work so sometimes I don't have time to brush my teeth right after but I do it within two hours of that. My refinements hurt less so keeping them in is easier. I started last April 2021.

Thank you for this video. I am starting my invisilign treatment soon, so I'm trying to research on how to make it more suitable to my lifestyle as there are LOTS of rules. You've mostly answered my questions. However, I do like my coffee from a flask that I bring to work. Is it possible drink coffee from a straw, u think? Or like other beverages from a straw then swish water in your mouth after. U think this would be detrimental?
@JessLotte
@JessLotte Жыл бұрын
I’m so glad it was helpful! In my experience, drinking things through a straw definitely helps as long as you position the straw as far in the back of your mouth as you can stand. Otherwise, the beverage will still settle into your trays when you swallow. Not a perfect method, but it does make a difference. I will say, at the end of my treatment my teeth had gotten pretty stained and I think it was from not always brushing after drinking coffee. I got my teeth professionally whitened afterward and they are good as new now, but that is really my only regret with not following the rules perfectly!
@aisharamat6977

Thank you for the prompt reply Jess Lotte, ya I would keep on mind about the straws at the back of mouth. Honestly I obeyed the rules for like the first month or so, then I started drinking coffee and other beverages with them cause...if Im working or studying I need other stuff than just water and there's no way im able to brush my teeth six times a day..also IMO its not particularly healthy for your gums to do that so I just don't. Secondly I usually take them off when hanging out with friends cause we're chatting and eating or drinking and Im not gonna do the whole process while outside every time I eat a chip or take a sip of sm, so there's no way Im fitting in the 22h window. I believe nobody is able to do so while maintaning sanity.
@JessLotte
@JessLotte 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I didn't even think about gum health! But if you're brushing and flossing SO many times within a day, it makes sense for it to at least cause some irritation. I do the same thing when I'm hanging out with people too. It's also just awkward having to pull them out of my mouth in front of people with all the slobber and everything, so I'd rather just not even bother having them in.

I was never told to floss after every single time. Brush yes but floss you dont have to as flossing is for making sure you remove tartar and that hardens after 12hr so as long as you do it 1-2 times a day is good enough. Invisalign diet? I was never told about this.

Only one rule that I did not follow: don't eat with your trays on. The reason is simply because my orthodontist strongly recommended keeping my trays in while eating and cleaning them after the meal when I'm brushing my teeth. I actually had to adjust my diet to remove sugary stuff and anything that can stain my trays to follow this recommendation. It was a hassle.

The brushing after every meal I found in the youtube community. My orthodontist does not recommend brushing after every meal. My orthodontist recommendation is to rinse after every meal and brush no more than the usual twice per day to avoid enamel damage. The 22 hours is difficult I try to do 20. My orthodontist says If I miss a day just wear the same tray for an extra day before switching out. But more importantly “live my life” lol

Got mine on last week. They said I can change trays every 7 days. My teeth are already pretty straight. I am doing this to create some space for bonding. What do you think about changing it to every 5 days? It would make me wearing them for only 3 months.
@JessLotte
@JessLotte 2 жыл бұрын
Every 5 days would be pretty quick for me. I usually don’t switch mine any sooner than a week. But obviously everyone is different and I’m coming from a background of super crowded teeth. So I can’t speak to your situation, but I do think there’s value in listening to your own body and being intuitive when it comes to switching your trays. Hope this helps 💕
