RIP Michael Hutchence. I remember the day you died 26 years ago. I was driving home from college for the holidays on Highway 395 near Walker in the Eastern Sierra. The news hit me right in the heart. You had a beauty, energy, presence, passion, and charisma that will live on forever. Remembering you today, brother.🙏

I turned 12 in 90 but 3rd and 4th grade I became hooked on mtv. I remember none of my friends were into music at the time yet. I'd go to sleep with this album and def leopards hysteria over and over. Then jumped to poison (lol) motley crue and I remember like yesterday seeing welcome to the jungle for the first time and it really warped me. Became really infatuated with the darker side of life, curious about drugs and girls...I don't regret it but I remember feeling a lot older than I was.

Oh, please. The music of the 80s was for the most part just as shallow as everything else associated with the Greed is Good era. Catchy, clever and definitely better than disco but deep it was not. For every "Personal Jesus" there was a "Rio" or "Safety Dance" or "I Ran" or "You Spin Me" and on and on. Hell, even Bowie found banality in the decade of excess.
