There was a mistranslation when Bruce asked why Ip didn't accept him as a disciple. What Ip said was more like "I opened the door, you thought I asked you to leave"

The last fight utilizes the weapons used in Wing Chun: the dragon pole and the butterfly swords. There's different branches in Wing Chun so each branch has it's own systems, traditions and interpretations of the Wing Chun concept. Bruce Lee founded Jun Fan Gung Fu based on Wing Chun before he dropped it and created Jeet Kune Do as a response to the flaws of his previous martial arts concept.

Cheung has his own movie telling his side of the story after IP Man 3 called “Master Z: Ip Man Legacy” It’s really an underrated and fun movie and has amazing casts as well including Michelle Yeoh and Dave Bautista. You guys should 100% watch it. Highly recommended.

Fun facts for the Cheung actor: He was filming in this other IP Man movie (Grandmaster), at the time he was just an ordinary actor that does not know martial arts. He needs to take classes and go through training preparing for the shoot. The movie took over a decade to film. The actor had gained his martial arts championship and degree from the filming.

Ipmans friend with the umbrella is another one of the former legends of martial arts cinema from back in the day often goes by "beardy" you can see him get hit in the nuts in 5 shaolin masters. its such a cool throwback how these movies include these legends as the various school masters. stunt coordinators always talk about beardy like "you only need to show him a choreography once and he will learn it" he was a master

Wing Sing's passing felt so real (Ip Man's wife). They did really well making that couple seem real and I was invested! Donnie Yen has such a great 'calm' and friendly face that when he goes into 'Ah, so you have chosen death' mode, it's legit scary! *edit* I really enjoyed Ip Man 4 too. Scott Adkins is awesome!

Thank you for perhaps the most insightful movie watch / review I've seen to date! The Superman analogy was great and finally got me to understand why Pa Kent dying in a tornado didn't work for me. Yes... our heroes need to come up against something they cannot beat in a fight! I can't wait for you to watch Ip Man 4! I saw it in the theaters and thought it was very well done! Again, it's different from 1 - 3, and the differences make it a fresh and very interesting final chapter in this series.

the fight between mike tyson and donnie yen was solely done for the purpose of showing that no fighting styles is bad or down because after part 2 of ip man many people think western boxing style as evil so the director was conscious on keeping that fight to finish in draw, so that it shows the equality of greatness to both fighting styles. cigarette fight was not kept for humour purpose but show case the speed of bruce lee. if you really want to know how speed is bruce lee i would recommend a video named "Bruce Lee: Be Like Water" in youtube and it's like 3:29 minutes and you will get to know how fast and powerful bruce lee is. thanks for your reaction to this great movie which also has great choreography and cinematography. waiting for IP MAN 4

The superman comment is great as I've seen Ipman be compared to what a great live action superman would be. He is an overly optimistic boyscout in a world that is always changing. He still has a lot of flaws that he has to learn from for the sake of just being a better person. He is nearly unstoppable in a fight yet his biggest challenges are the ones that he can't punch his way out of. Ipman is like the personification of superman if he was a martial artist rather than a kryptonian alien. Also definitely check out the Master Z spin off movie as they make some parallels to batman with the character arc in there too.

The Superman comparison is a very interesting analogy. Like Superman, Ip Man is always holding back his true power. He doesn't want to hurt people. You get to see him let loose a little bit in the first movie against the 10 guys after watching his friend get murdered by the Japanese. In Ip Man 4, which I hope you watch and do a reaction to, Ip Man will finally stop holding back and you'll get to see exactly how much of a badass he is.

Bruce Lee was an accomplished dancer during his time in Hong Kong. The fight at the end with long pole, butterfly swords (baat jam do), and finally unarmed were traditional wing chun techniques which was a fitting end to this film.

Wing Chun is indeed an ancient tradition. It can be mastered, and be used to protect yourself from external harm, but it is never meant to be used to intentionally hurt anyone, even any enemies. People might come up to you to challenge you to a fight, if you use wing chun, and if your opponent is down, just stop making any offensive moves, or hurt him any further. Instead, give him a bow, to show respect.

It’s a spinoff from the Ip Man franchise. Basically continue the story from Ip Man 3, but focus on Cheung Tin Chi as main protagonist/character, and his side of the story. Ip Man is not really in this movie, but got two other great characters like Michelle Yeoh and Dave Bautista. It’s considered a redemption arc for Cheung Tin Chi’s character. Those who love this character would love this movie❤😊

Did you know the reason why Cheung Ting Chi said "Ip Man can't represent Wing Chun"? It's because Ting Chi's Wing Chun is still 'Pure' while Ip Man's Wing Chun is 'Modified' (Because Ip Man was SO into Wing Chun in his younger days, that he 'Modifies' it solely to go against Wing Chun User). BUT Ip Man did not teach this 'Modified' version to his students.

Aaaaaaaaaye there it is. Really fun watching these reactions. I've been waiting for this since commenting on the last one, and I've brought even more trivia for you this time. Cheung Tin-Chi doesn't get a redemption arc in this movie like Roxy was hoping for, but he does get a redemption arc in his own separate spin-off movie called Master Z. The elevator fight scene is very obviously inspired by Tony Jaa, another kung fu movie star. The hairstyle, fighting moves, and outfit are all similar to what Tony Jaa uses in his own movies. What most people don't know though, is that the guy in the elevator is actually Tony Jaa's own stunt double. That's why he looks and acts the part so well. The guy getting his head smashed through the table at 31:49 is Master Law, who already got beat up twice in the previous movie (and will return to get destroyed again in Ip Man 4). Aside from Ip Man himself, he appears as a fighter in more of the films than any other character. However, he loses every single fight. Since you mentioned at the end how little Mike Tyson was actually in the movie and probably could have filmed it very quickly, Mike actually broke his finger on Donnie Yen's elbow during that scene and caused the filming to take longer than expected. Thanks for doing these! Now I'll count the days til you do Ip Man 4. You discussed at the end how you've heard mixed opinions on the last movie, but in my opinion, the finale is the best since the original. Hopefully you'll agree when you watch it. o7

I wonder if maybe you could watch the fourth film? Specially now than a fifth movie is on the way :D Either way, it was so good watching you react to the first three movies, if you want another Donnie Yen movie then maybe one of this two could convince you? Wuxia (2011). It's like a noir detective movie but in ancient china, a detective (played by the same actor as the japanese general in the first ip man movie) goes to a little village to investigate the deaths of two dangerous criminals at the hands of a normal paper maker (donnie yen) don't watch the trailer cause it spoils the answer to the mistery tho! In my humble opinion is Donnie Yen's best acting, and the action is very good. Enter the fat dragon (2020). A remake of a Samo Hung movie that is a parody of a Bruce Lee movie, martial artception. But you dont have to watch the other two to understand. A cop gets down on his luck and starts gaining weight along the way (hence the name) but he gets a chance to prove himself and get back up. Is a comedy, and I love when people see the range of Donnie Yens acting, his comedy is gold. And the fights are SO good. But anyhow, thank you for your reactions! It was so much fun!
