The mini 6 looks really good. However I’ve had my mini 5 since Christmas 2019 and it’s still really good! I plan on keeping that for as long as I can (basically until it stops getting iOS support) which is not gonna be for awhile!

@@MyVidMix highly recommend you get the second gen 12.9 as my first gen is really starting to show its age on iPadOS 15. The A9X doesn’t support 4K KZbin and many other basic features. The screen is great, but the A9X is underpowered to handle it today.

I have had my iPad mini 5 256gb for over a year now. It is a totally brilliant device and does everything I need from a portable device. The only thing that the mini 6 has that I would like is the usb-c connector but I would miss the headphone jack.

thats actually fare, the mini 6 bezels are still big plus it has touch id fingerprint in power button which is less convienent than a home button thats easier to unlock, plus i have the M4 ipad pro and it has super small bezels and bright Oled display and face id instead of touch id fingerprint the mini 6 has smaller bezels than the mini 5, but its the same display technology as the mini 5, if the mini 6 has smaller bezels like the ipad pro and had oled display as well as a touch id in the display like android, that would be better

I currently have the mini 5, I personally like the home button.. and where its placed, the only reason id feel like i would need to upgrade is the stereo sound and maybe larger screen. This is just my multi media go to, some zoom.. but mainly youtube and spotify.. gaming not so much but call of duty on the mini 5 looks and plays great. My son is always using it to play games. Still love my mini5..

I was going to buy it, but they removed the 3.5mm jack and that's a deal breaker for me (I was going to use it for music production, bluetooth does not work here) Plus they removed the Pencil#1 support. So in this case one should buy some external audio interface or an adapter with ability to charge. Plus a new pencil#2. So it already increases the base price...

Great comparison video! I actually checked out the new mini 6 at Best Buy last night and I have to say I was impressed….it is a little smaller than I would’ve liked but it feels great in the hands. Great screen with higher ppi than even the most expensive iPad Pro, which to me is noticeable. I went ahead and pre-ordered a mini as I do think these will be flying off the shelves. I have owned several larger iPads including one 10.5 inch iPad Pro but the bigger size just never worked for me so I’m back to the mini and I’m happy with all the awesome updates. I do think a 9 inch iPad mini would be perfect, 8.3 is a little bit small.

It's not that outdated since the base model iPad is still using this classic design. However, since I've been using the 2018 iPad Pro at the same time, the difference in the user experience is noticeable. Now I feel like it's almost my iPad Pro just smaller without Face ID and keyboard. You're right about lightning. I enjoy using the same charger and USB-c dongle on my new mini 6, which is easy for me to use USB accessories. And, I can just swap iPads with the same Pencil 2 without the need for a Pencil 1.

@@babacool81 The new Mini 6 has a longer/wider 3:2 aspect ratio screen, most apps at the moment are not optimized for this screen so you might get black borders on the top and bottom of the screen. The 4:3 screen is better specially if you use the tablet as a reader.

Save your 500 bucks and Wait for led screen, M1 chip and 128gb ipad mini 7. They are making room for improvements for upcoming apple devices purposely.

The issue for me is the screen pixel density…. My first iPad was the original mini when it first came out. Loved it. It fit in my inside jacket pocket, making it relatively easy to carry, and at the time I had no iPhone so carrying it was important as my only IOS device. But my eyesight isn’t quite as sharp as it was 9 years ago, so when I finally replaced it in 2018, I moved up to the 9.7” iPad (went with the then recently discontinued 2017/5th Gen because a got a great deal on it). Love the regular iPad. Can’t carry it as easily, but since I have an iPhone now, that’s not a big issue. My wife went with the mini 4, and she loves it, but I do have a bit more difficulty reading one it. Yes, the Retina display helps, but for me, the larger screen iPads are the better option.

Worth the upgrade?? Boy howdy! My good old iPad mini with Retina display (iPad mini 2) still works fine for me, but it is getting a bit long in the tooth. It can't be upgraded past iOS 12. I got mine with the maximum memory (128 GB) because I expected to load it up with ebooks and ripped movies. It cost $699 with the maximum memory but no cellular (a decision I've regretted ever since). No previous 'new' iPad mini has felt worth the upgrade. My new iPad mini will cost $799 with the maximum memory (256 GB) and this time WITH cellular (5G, no less), that fast A15, Apple Pencil 2(!) support, stereo speakers, much better cameras, Center Stage, Touch ID, USB-C AND it comes in PURPLE?! Upgrading is a no-brainer this time.

Pad Mini 6 was so bad compared to iPad Mini 5 that I had to return it to Apple. Mini 6 is worse on many levels. (1) It's heavier. (2) It's much less comfortable to keep in hands because of the nasty sharp edges. (3) It has a different screen size ratio. It's has a longer display but also less wide! (it has bigger bezels on the long side than the old one) That makes me feel all is smaller on the screen, that's especially terrible in landscape mode. (4) The worst thing is the new location of physical buttons. In the landscape mode during gaming, I very often press by accident the button switching off the display. It is located on the left lower edge which is very easy to press in the landscape mode and to interrupt the game. I really tried to get used to the new Mini6 for almost 2 weeks, I could not. It was returned to Apple with a detailed explanation of the mentioned issues.

The ipad mini 5 feels faster because it doesn't have the jelly scrolling in portrait mode. Jelly scrolling makes everything feel choppy on the mini 6. If you press too hard with the apple pencil the lcd ripples as well. It's thicker too. I'm not sure why anyone would get the mini 6 honestly. Skip this one. I've purchased the mini 6 twice out of desperation and just can't get past how laggy it feels. The whole point of buying Apple is the smooth UI and they killed this for some reason.

But those are all thing that I have on my $60 Fire 8 tablet! The Fire tablet isn’t anywhere as nice as iPad Mini 5, of course, but it does go to show just how slow Apple can be about making some rather obvious changes.

Do your volume buttons rotate when the device's display is off though? I think not, but I could be mistaken. The audio enhancements make certain apps nearly impossible to use, and the speakers being on the left hand edge in portrait or bottom in landscape is far more annoying. Stop saying that you had to charge the Apple Pencil using the iPad. It came with an adapter to allow charging with any lighting cable and charger. Charging it in an iPad was a bonus feature to use in a pinch.

Totally. Plus there are many great 3rd party USB to Female Lighting cables on the market. It’s a Unicorn meme that hasn’t helped the adoption of the Mini. One of the great things about the 6, is that I can finally praise the mini form factor and get a positive reaction. Lol. Other than “It’s not much bigger than my phone”. Lol. PS. All 3 sizes are great though.

There’s only one bad thing about the iPad mini 6… that thing is Night Mode. I wish they added it to the iPads but I don’t think apple’s going to ever add it to the iPad. Though the iPad mini 6 still takes good photos in good lighting.

@@katies2067 Mainly touch ID. For someone that travels a lot, not needing to remove my ask or input my passcode around strangers is a must. Smaller size and portability is a plus, I'm willing to trade the bigger screen and bigger battery just for touch ID alone

I bought the mini 5 for $300 at Best Buy open box 64gb. I can’t complain about the quality. I just bought the IPad 9th gen for $429 at Walmart 256gb and the quality is much lower. Mini 6 is just too expensive now. They should have kept the $329 price point.

I think this minor down clock will be very healthy for the iPad Mini in terms of gaming and every long term sustain high performance task. Being just a little bit slower will mean a lot in terms of thermals. This down clock was a very good decision imo. Apple probably did this because they know that many people looking for the Mini as a gaming device.

It also means a lot for battery life. A 8-10% down clock can reduce chip performance consumption by up to 20%. This way it basically meats or exceeds the iPad Air in all performance metrics in a much smaller body without overheating or losing that 10 hour battery life.

@Ever-changing-being You’re right about the lower 2.93ghz clock speed will definitely reduce thermal throttling, and plus with the 5 core GPU and 4GB ram, it’s definitely more powerful GPU wise vs Air 4. After all, my iPod 7 with dual core 1.64ghz CPU can play every game on AppStore on 2GB ram smoothly so the extra cores and clock speed in mini will be put to the test with games like Divinity 2, Xcom 2 and all other games needing 3-4GB ram

@ Luminate The mini 6 is clocked at 2.93ghz, which is literally only 13% slower than the iPhone 13 clocked at 3.23Ghz. I doubt it makes a difference
