I use a dongle just like that to pull my videos from my iPad. Also I use that dongle to power a USB microphone while recording videos.

Very Nice! I used to use the dongle with a usb hub for an audio mixer and an iPad for podcasting.

Is the power plug just so you can charge your phone at the same time? $40 for an adapter seems crazy to me lol. I have a couple cheap MFI lightning to USB adapters that dosen't use a separate power plug, they seem to work fine with card readers and thumb drives. Also if you wanna use an internal SSD drive (which are cheaper than ones that are made to be external) you can get get a USB to SATA and power adapter, works pretty good with phones, tablets, consoles etc. Stay cheap!

Some Peripherals can draw more power than older iPhones will allow. (I think it's 20mah) So the power port on the dongle takes care of that. You're right! We have a couple of Samsung SSD's that were great BF deals and had the read and write speeds we needed for some cameras we have. I need some more, so I've been passively looking at some internals with a spiffy enclosure. :)

@@CheapGeek I see. I have a 13 pro max so maybe mine allows for more power draw. For internal 2.5" SATA SSDs you don't really need an enclosure, they have a shell like your USB SSD, it just has SATA and power plugs instead of USB, just yours is probably more waterproof though. Also you can get nvme SSD enclosures that come with a USB plug.
