the 5+ year upgrade cycle is the way to go. You save a lot of money, you save a lot of e-waste, and the upgrades feel way more substantial. Upping my Wife's 11 this year, and I'm holding onto my 12 mini for a few more years.

The "every other year" upgrade cycle is a remnant of the past when the hardware really needed a a boost. You iPhone 12 or newer will work just fine for years to come as long as it's supported by Apple.

I'm on a 13 Pro Max and it's still working great. I even have 85% battery health left. I'd probably use it for another year (I hear the 17 is the money model) but my girlfriend, who was using my 10 Pro Max, is anxious for an "update". I'm glad she is happy with a 3+ year old phone.

I remember when Apple used to hate creators who made rumor videos due to the ill effects on potential sales of its current products. For example, EverythingApplePro was never, and has never been, invited to any Apple event, despite how large his channel got, before he mostly moved on from KZbin. Now these rumor videos are so customary and made by such important opinion shifters that Apple has not been able to continue that practice. This is all to say, it takes some amount of stones to make these videos, especially with how important it is to be able to attend Apple events and get hands on access or early access to certain devices (whose reviews drop a day or two before the device is available to consumers). I appreciate you making these videos, BT. I love your enthusiasm for Apple products, and I share that enthusiasm. Just keep throwing damn bad apples when it's deserved, and if I still need to plug my darn keyboard and trackpad into a lightning cable, that's a mother bleepin' bad Apple.

Ha, my wife is in the same boat, though she's rocking an SE2 (she had an 8 before). Something about the FaceID thing freaks her out (I use Android, so I still use a fingerprint sensor/I can't relate). She's trying to hold out for a new SE, but a newborn and too little storage space to update iOS might be what gets her this year, lol

Then to make matters worse apple stopped selling the 14pro which is the one I’d be most inclined to get because you get a lot of the new features while keep some of the ‘old’. Sigh!!!

Bro, if you are ok with amount of storage that you have - get yourself a new battery and a case. If you end up upgrading though, make sure you are fine with dynamic island being partly visible in videos in landscape mode. Still rocking 12 Pro Max too and might very well continue to do so for another year.

I’ve been keeping an eye out for all the iPhone 16 pro max videos and they all pretty much sound the same in one way or another but I found yours to be very informative. I liked how you had unique things to say. I always end up getting the model with the most terabytes and when I heard the 16 pro max might come with a 2tb version I was so down to get that. However, hearing you say that it might be slower was concerning. I’m coming from a 12pro max512gb. For someone who isn’t in the tech world can you kindly explain what you mean when you say the 2tb size might not be as fast as it’s 1tb equivalent, how that might impact the user experience etc?

5:47 It’s time to give the camera system all the same large sensors. I never use the ultra wide lens the wide lens is wide enough.The telephoto lens should get more attention than the ultra wide. Taking nice portraits should be the priority. The perfect trio would be 24mm,50mm and 120mm.

Won’t the new capture button get a ton of accidental palm presses given it’s touch sensitive and located on the lower right side? Or will it only be active whilst in the camera app? If it’s only active whilst taking photos/videos, I hope there’s other uses for it outside of the camera app

Brian, do you know if the iPhone 16 models will get mmWave for more countries? Presently mmWave is exclusively for US customers, while other countries got a slower sub6 for 5G. I am planning on going from my iPhone 13 pro to the 16 pro max. I am going up in size as my eyes are getting a bit worse. I do like the idea of the new capture button and I am looking forward to the action button. I do hope Apple will add the multi function capability you mentioned. I am not opposed to upgrading again next year if the iPhone 17 line up has a compelling reason. I am also probably going to upgrade my watch as well. I have a series 6 and my battery life is getting bad.

if you are complaining about lens flare, just use a proper camera with good optics. Otherwise you can attach a lens hood in front of the camera to avoid the flare. In my opinion, iPhone camera lenses are still sub par, and portrait mode... still a joke.
