Last year, my big iPhone 7 video was hit with copyright- so today, we're giving it another shot with the added context of iOS 17! Hope you all enjoy! Also, anyone still using the iPhone 7 / 7 Plus? How's it been working for you since losing support?

@@davemk9it was revolutionary for ALL smartphones. The first time we has a phone (by a major manufacturer) that had actual edge to edge display unlike the s8 with its borders, Face ID, which to this day Apple remains the single only major relevant company to have, L shaped battery, stainless steel, the notch, it’s designed was copied by almost everyone in the industry, and probably more that just don’t come to mind. The iPhone X has been the single most influential phone aside from the original iPhone. It has left the biggest impact on the industry and influenced almost every single phone that followed. To call it anything but that is a massive understatement.
@aidan8583
@aidan8583 10 ай бұрын
@@davemk9 although the iphone didn't invent the notch, although it did make it quite popular, if you look at every other phone released in 2017, every one of them (at least the major ones, i couldn't find any others), has a massive chin on the bottom, even if they might have had thinner bezels near the top and sides. the iphone x was the first mainstream phone with completely even bezels, and the only one with the folded display needed to accomplish that. even a few years after the iphone came out, and to some extent today, android phones often had a chin still. had the iphone x not released, we would probably still be seeing that chin on todays phones, so i really do think apple was revolutionary, they affected the entire industry.

I upgraded from an iPhone 7 to XS early last year, just before it lost the latest iOS. Mum now uses my 7, and she’ll be getting my XS next year, when the same thing happens again. It’s a great little phone, and is streets ahead of the 6, which I had to use for a month earlier this year. For one thing, Mum has an app to control her hearing aids, which refused to work on the 6, but does not have the same problem on the 7. Thanks for the content, as always!

I bought a half price new iPhone 7 on Prime day in 2019. I did not replace it until 2022 when I bought a new half price iPhone SE 2020 to replace it. It is a great phone. I used to watch this iPhone 7 keynote to persuade me that I was not missing anything by not replacing it. I still get iOS security updates for my iPhone 7. It is currently running iOS 15.8 which only came out a few months ago. The wired lightning earphones that came in the box with the iPhone 7 were just as good as traditional earphones.

I bought the 7plus about 6 months after launch and used it for 2 years or so. I then sold it to a friend and he used it until about August of this year, when he finally had the money to upgrade to a 14 pro. It was a fantastic phone with an amazing shelf life, and he got his use out of it during the time. The battery life was terrible by the end, due to 6.5 years of heavy use, but it was still able to do everything you’d realistically need from a modern phone and just missed newer “features.” I got to see that phone progress through an almost 7 year life cycle and it is amazing how well it aged. I can only hope my iPhone 13 ages as well, because I don’t plan to upgrade until it’s no longer supported by iOS or dies of natural/accidental causes.

So awesome that you did a whole new video for this even though it's only a year and a half later. I watched the whole thing as I did the last one, and I enjoyed every minute of it. Another interesting one to take a look it could be the 12 series. To me that year feels like the final iteration of iPhone, and until they make a major change it just seems like everything since is just an iterant of it. Also a fun story with Covid production issues and everything along the way.

I saw the keynote for the iPhone 7 when I was in LA so it was nice to finally see a keynote at 10 AM instead of 1 PM. When they showed off portrait mode on the iPhone 7 Plus, I was blown away and wanted to try it out even thought I bought into the rumors of an all screen iPhone in development so I decided to wait for next year. I didn’t plan on getting an iPhone 7 Plus but once my iPhone 6 Plus had the Touch IC issue, I ended up getting an iPhone 7 Plus (which I thought of as a temporary phone) and it was amazing. Went across the country with that phone along with having some of my best and worst moments of my life, all in a span of 2 and a half years. Ended up trading it in for an iPhone 11 Pro Max (which I still use, for now) but it was one of the best phones I had. Also, I had it in Jet Black which is the best color of any Apple product. How I wish I could get a Jet Black iPhone 15 Pro Max and MacBook Pro.

My guess is they’re pushing more and more tasks to the neural engine which first appeared on the iPhone X/8 so they pushed quickly to get there. The a12 had a way more powerful neural engine than the a11 so I think that’s why the XS, XR will get iOS 18 and maybe 19.

I used a iPhone 7 32gb for 3 years from 2019 to summer 2022 and was a solid phone. I upgraded to a SE2020 because it’s same platform near enough other than a more modern chip however it broke down after 18 months. I got purchased my 7 back from a friend and honestly it’s still a good phone if you change some settings to increase performance and make sure to keep at least 10/20% of storage space free to stop any throttling. As a user that just games occasionally and doesn’t use social media or camera app much I don’t really see the reason to upgrade for a while. This phone has been overheated, dropped , left in the sun and still tanks it. Yet my SE2 was glitching out, over heating to point of shutdown for hours and numerous software problems on iOS 17 this is a better device imo Edit:iOS 15 is still receiving security updates (I think until 18 releases in sept. And I’d recommend buying a 10,000mah power bank and your all set)

With the exception of MagSafe, 3D Touch was the last great thing the Apple did on the iPhone like truly game changing, and for some reason they had to disable it if I had an iPhone 7 my phone would still have the hardware for 3-D touch but I would not be able to use it because Apple turned it off the software version of 3-D touch that is built into modern iPhones pails. In comparison it’s finicky and inconsistent. I do love MagSafe, but with all sincerity nothing, Apple has done to the iPhone line has been nearly as good as hardware 3-D introduced with the iPhone 7

Depending on whether you need the latest OS, Samsung phones range from 4-5 years of security patch support. The S7 was supported for five years. I had the Note 9 and remember getting a patch in 2022. I had my Note 9 stolen, so I don’t know if it got any more updates. For the most part, if you are the average consumer, the average update cycle is around two to three years. As people hold onto their flagship devices for longer, it makes sense to increase the number of years of support. Sometimes it’s better to drop support. I remember my iPhone 5s running poorly after the latest update.

iPhone 7 Plus Jet Black is my first iPhone that I bought in 2017. It still works extremely well and the only change I had to do was the battery which I replaced last year. I am finally gonna switch to iPhone 15 but I will definitely use 7 plus as my second phone. Gonna miss the home button as well 😂.

18:07 as i recall, removing the headphone jack to have dual speaker grills on the bottom was actually a completely fake reason, as the one on the left of the phone isn't a speaker at all.

No headphone port also could have helped in providing larger battery sizes but idk maybe not. I know the eventual 3D touch removal was for that (which I actually loved on my 6s)

I upgraded this is from a 7plus to a 12. The craziest part is that both my 7plus and my 12 have the same amount of storage (128gb). When i compared my 7 to my friends other samsungs from 2016… mann the difference

I have friends still using the iPhone 7. To them it meets their needs -- calls, texts, emails and GPS. They're not upgrading until their phones will no longer work. Maybe somewhere down the line if they decide to upgrade, probably to stay on iPhone, most likely I'd suggest they go on the SE 2022 (hopefully the price is cheaper).

It was my second smartphone. after my dad realized that my iPhone 5s needed to be fixed and it cost a lot of money, He decided to buy me iPhone 7 with 32GB around February 2017. I moved to iPhone SE2 around July 2020, and this one used to just sit on the corner of my desk. and recently, my brother broke his iPhone 13 and we needed a spare phone otherwise he couldn't do anything like checking bus time and daily activities that he used to, just for a week though. And it did its job. hahaha. Now it's in my brothers hand in case he will broke his phone again, but I wish I can have it back.

Nice retrospective. I had an iPhone 7 (non-Plus) and, interestingly, it felt like the most lateral upgrade ever at the time... but you can see it hugely impacted phones that came after it. On the headphone jack not taking up a lot of space... I dunno. If you compare iFixit teardowns of the 6S and 7, you can see they pretty much filled the space, and then some, with the fairly beefy Taptic Engine. So, I'm guessing it was really a combo of: Taptic Engine (way better haptics + removal of home button mechanism), battery size, and nudging people harder towards AirPods being more important (to them) than the headphone jack. I can agree on the first two, but probably not the last one - like you, I think AirPods were transformative products regardless.

I absolutely LOVED my iPhone 7 Plus I got a refurbished one in black with 32GB for a solid price and it was amazing The cameras, screen, performance, everything about it 'WOW'ed me Sure, the lack of headphone jack wasn't great, but using the dongle didn't bother me as it gave me the option to use wired earphones at the very least, it could have been so much worse and nowadays it isn't that big of a deal (I'm not saying it's good but it's not the end of the world)

I know it's a decent phone otherwise, but the fact that the iPhone 7 started the trend of removing the headphone jack makes it my least favorite smartphone of all time, released right after my favorite iPhone, the 2016 SE. In 2022, I was looking for a new flagship with a headphone jack and expandable storage and only one single brand still made such a smartphone. And yes, I know that there were smartphones without a headphone jack before the iPhone 7, including the very first android phone, but none of those started this trend.

I’m sure the cause of the software drop is because A9 and A10 chipset devices had 4” devices running. Maybe Apple wanted to kill support for those but it would not make sense because it has the same chipset as the larger sized iPhones. iPadOS is also basically the same but the naming is what made it separated from the chipset side iykyk

I loved my iPhone 7 Plus. I think red and white looked better than black and red. I was worried about them removing the headphone jack and the physical home button, but it didn't matter. I upgraded to my current iPhone 11 product red 4 years ago and plan to run it into the ground. I hope Apple comes out with another red iPhone when I need to upgrade.

I’ve actually been using an iPhone 7 matte black that my friend gave me that was bought new in 2019 but right after it was updated to iOS 13.3.1 (about Jan 2020) it got water damage and the LCD backlight died (not the logic board, the display itself) and was not used until he gave it to me. I currently have a white display on it because I didn’t have a black one and I didn’t have money at the time. I tried to keep it on iOS 13.3.1 but I don’t know how, it updated to iOS 15.8. It also had 95% battery health and the only reason I’m using it is because my iPhone XR broke. I’m getting an iPhone 11 for Christmas this year so I’ll have an iPhone my Apple Watch Series 7 will work with. The iPhone 7 is still a nice phone in 2023

I still remember when the iPhone 7 came out, I was using a iPhone 6 at the time and was angered by the removal of the headphone jack. I still am to this day, with me switching to Samsung after I replaced my iPhone 6 after 5 years of trusty service. I ended up getting a S10e, which still has a headphone jack and SD card slot. Then I upgraded to a XCover6 Pro, which is basically a S10e (processors perform the same, same out of RAM and storage) with a larger screen, 5G cellular connectivity, headphone jack, SD card slot, and user removable battery.
