The main reason Apple won't bother is because there's no money in it and there's never likely to be any money in it because it is a niche product that will begin to reach peak coverage and fail to break the volume needed to be sustainable. Add in the complexities and likely reliability in durability issues and Apple will gladly leave this to Samsung and others to fight over what will be a tiny pot of nothingness.

Apple said the same thing about the large screen phones people mocked samsung for the first note phone and look now almost every phone has a large display. Also if you have never tried a foldable phone you are missing out. I went from a 14 pro max to a z fold 5 and will never go back to apple or any phone without a foldable display.

​​@@justintardif9527 Well the overall phone market eventually moved to larger screens so yes Apple eventually moved to larger screens. In the same time that larger screens caught on, unfortunately foldables have not, it's five generations in and still has a dismal share of the market compared to the larger screen segment when it took off. And yes I'm using a OnePlus Open alongside my 15 Pro Max, I will definitely always prefer a candy bar phone over foldable. In fact I believe a lot of foldable users return their foldables after giving it a try in return for a traditional candy bar phone. In regards to the future, I believe Apple has their sights on satellite communication, my guess it'll take over as the new big thing, most companies will probably end their foldables to concentrate on satellite communication capabilities since they already took a step back with Qualcomm dropping Iridium on claims as it's too expensive.

Time will tell if they are correct or not, but by then, foldable tech will be much more advanced and Apple can jump on that bandwagon if they are wrong with their upcoming VR/AR, and if they can see profits.

I was an apple obsessive geek for years, but I've switched to the z fold 5 and honestly, it's a game changer. I was a bit meh on foldables until I got one, and now it just makes sense. I'm a programmer and it makes my work so much easier.

@@ndc5544p I'm a big fan of what Google are doing with the pixel phones, however having tried both the pixel fold and z fold 5 (thank god for O2 refresh and being able to change phones every 90 days), I would say Samsung have nailed the foldable better than Google. One ui has been made to work brilliantly with the z fold 5, and the huge bezels on the pixel fold are horrible. My only complaint with the z fold 5 is when folded, the outer display is great, but just a tad too narrow to make it enjoyable for typing.

A good foldable is only an iPhone that turns into an iPad. Yes, I’m talking about 2 or 3 folds that fold open into 1 large screen. And that won’t happen anytime soon because in order for an iPhone to have 3 folds and still be thin enough to fit comfortably in your pocket requires some magic tech.

I like the surface Duo because it is not crazy expensive. I use two monitors side by side with my PC and so a 2 mm wide line between two screens is not a problem to me. One reason that I would never buy a bendable screen is that it would crack within 6 months.

If your right, then I bought my last iphone when I got the 12 Pro Max. Last year i upgraded to a Z Fold 4 and I will never switch back. You could see the crease in the Fold 3, but its next near invisible in the Fold 4's. It's even less visible in the Fold 5's. Unless you point it out or stare at it, you dont even notice it. I don't see the software being a problem either. If Samsung can engineer UI that can switch between the front screen to inner screen seamlessly, then you know Apple can do it. I find it hard to believe that Apple wouldn't want to show up Samsung & Google with their engineering abilities.

Also that is the point of relieving someone of toting around a large tablet, that is why I don't think it's a gimmick, but it's only a gimmick if you don't use it, I guess you can say that for anything on a device if it isn't in the need of the user, great talk 👍🏾👍🏾

So, it's an interesting thing. While foldable phones have a crease, it's a non-issue. It cannot be seen if you have the phone facing you while you are using it. It's a talking point for those who have not used a folding phone. Foldable phones are not for everyone and I don't think they will replace glass sandwiches, but using a seam for the main negative is interesting to me. I have the Z Fold 5 and had the 3 before that. Both are great and while they aren't without issue, it's not a phone you get without insurance.

Wait wait, the rumor is that an apple foldable is canceled BECAUSE of OLED? An OLED screen would be a requirement for a foldable, so switching to OLED in the iPads was a sign of the foldable iPad being worked on. I mean I personally wouldn’t buy a foldable unless Apple did something really special that I can’t foresee, but still OLED is definitely a “they’re working on a foldable”, and not a replacement technology. I mean maybe they decided OLED was the destination instead of the waypoint and cancelled the foldable part, but it’s not a “because of” situation -edit: okay mister “I didn’t say that”. But yeah, focusing on a full switch to OLED first just makes the kind of sense that does
