Thank you. I don’t share my location on a normal basis. I open Google maps, hold down on my location and copy lat and long and paste it into message.

Just making sure you know. I just figured out that on iPhone you can hold down the Google Maps icon and one of the options is Send My Location. You don't even have to open maps. You can then either click a link with long and lat or select Share and send in Messages. Best thing I've figured out in a while!

today and yesterday i attempted to use the satellite messaging on ios18 way out in the backcountry where i knew where i was and had been to before. no obstructions. i could connect to the satellites but they messages would not send. maybe its cause im in alaska but seeing it not work has convinced me to get a real gps.

I had the same problem in Australia. It would be nice if there was a definitive instruction process on how to send a satellite message when out of cell zone/ or in very weak cell zone that won’t send a message. I have my North American cell sim turned ‘off’ and am using a local data e-sim that only has data. Not sure if that may be causing satellite texts to not work. It isn’t working for me. Can’t ditch my inReach yet 😮

Did you see that Harmin Hoek had to use the Inreach function.

Anyone know why you have to setup the satellite function before you lose signal? I often forget to do this then I’m SOL if I ever need it. Not sure why there isn’t a setting to have it automatically turn on.

While it works, the experience in valleys in the cascades that you can wait over 10 to 20 minutes to do this. They need more satellites.
