LET ME KNOW IF THOSE LINKS STOP WORKING!!!
While replacing an iPhone battery is not the most easy thing in the world... it is still very possible. With a simple pentalobe screwdriver (linked above) and a little know-how the whole project can be done in about 30 minutes. You want to go slow and make sure not to damage any components.
If your phone is not holding a charge for very long, or if the phone will drop from 50% to 0% battery life without notice, than a new battery will probably fix your issue. Replacing the battery does not erase your personal information if everything is done correctly.
The biggest things to watch out for are the iphone screen ribbon cables. Make sure not the bend or flex them in any unnatural way. They are very fragile. Also, the battery needs to be handled with care. Do not bend, flex, or puncture the battery at all.

Very helpful video. Patient survived the surgery. I struggled: 1) Getting case open. I ordered the recommended tool. Only after I heated the phone with a heat gun did I manage to get it open. 2) removing the old battery. Had to resort to brute force. 3) inserting 6 tiny screws....quite a challenge. Total time: ~ 1h 45m

EXCELLENT TUTORIAL. Took me about 1.5 hours because I did it slowly. DO NOT RUSH THIS JOB. Take extra time and do it slowly and methodically. Worked perfectly. If you rush, you will lose the teeny tiny itty bitty screws. Wear powerful reading glasses for magnification.

Thank you so much because of you I was able to change my battery without a hitch. But it’s more than just that the way you explained everything and were so concise yet very easy to understand is unbelievable. This is one of the most helpful videos I’ve ever seen in terms of repairing anything let alone a phone battery. I can definitely see why you have so many subscribers and now I’m proud to say I am one as well thank you so much

One of the best repair videos I've ever seen. Was able to extract my old battery fairly easily, though that adhesive is a massive pain. I had to remove the headphone jack to get enough room to remove it, but it eventually came out without too much of a fight.

Of course... Thanks to this splendid tutorial I threw a phone that was still in excellent condition in the dustbin.... There is a fundamental piece of information missing which on ifixit is in large letters, the 4 screws on the display are all with different lengths (tenths of a millimetre) ) and if the exact position is not respected the logic board will break. Here he took them off and put them back on without underlining this aspect, you have to note the position or possibly have some luck that I didn't have.

Thanks I successfully replaced my iPh5SE battery watching this! I used this video as my primary reference. Took me three hours. Technical for me is changing the oil in my truck. Never opened an Apple product before. Used the $10 eBay kit. 1. One thing, the plastic pry tool I had sucked. I had to use a box cutter...carefully. That took 40 minutes to do it right. 2. Pulling out the adhesive battery strips SUUUUCKED. One broke. I had to go to two other videos where one guy heated the iPhone with a hair dryer. I also placed the phone atop a bag of microwaved rice in a ziplock bag. Then I used fishing line to 'scissor' underneath the warmed battery/case until it came free. That was a pain in the ASS. So like this guy says, don't break those. 3. This video is shot really well. In real life those screws and such are SMALL. Make sure you have a good surface and at least the tools shown. You don't want to be pfaffing around dropping screws like a crackhead. You'll never find them. 4. There's a lot of videos but, this guy did everything right and in the right order. My phone charged right up. Freaked at first because the phone didn't turn on but, the battery was shipped totally de-energized to Alaska.

It worked! Took me like an hour and a half because the adhesive ripped (my advice is actually not to be *too* careful with it...it tore less when I was a little more forceful with pulling on it), but it was actually a simple process. Thanks so much, man. Saved hundreds.

Very helpful video. Removing the battery adhesive is definitely the hardest part. I had to heat the case and battery a few times and pry quite hard with a plastic knife to get the battery out. It does bend the battery a bit, but no worries if not bending it over double! It is good to test the connection by powering up before screwing things in place. The first tow tries, my screen showed lines, so I knew it wasn't right. Third time was a charm. Thanks!

I got this phone recently, wanted something just for work, something that does not look bulky on my pocket like most smartphones nowadays. Sadly the battery is a joke and ended up buying an external battery, which brought back the bulky problem that I wanted to avoid in the first place. Opted to get a new battery and see how is it, cost me only 15 bucks with tools included and I'm glad this video helped me through the process. Especially the part of showing what happens if the ''sticky stuff'' breaks. Took me no more than 15 min and now time to test it, hopefully, got more battery time this time.

I bought a battery replacement kit from Amazon with all the required tools etc. The pictures in the included instructions were too small to comfortably see, so I used your video for help (thank you). Unfortunately, the adhesive was not cooperating so I had to use the old hair dryer trick. The battery reluctantly gave up, after I thought I'd melt the damn iphone. Then, the screws are SO FREAKING TINY that I kept losing them. UGH. And finally, I got the lines down the screen. I unplugged and replugged the screen connections four times, being very careful not to damage the connectors. The lines never went away. I smashed my iphone SE to tiny pieces and removed the phone from my account. NEVER AGAIN. If I ever need a new battery, I'm taking the phone to a professional. I've tinkered with electronics all of my adult life. I even constructed entire circuit boards after buying the parts from Radio Shack. I have cloned hard drives, replaced RAM, and problem solved my wife's PC problems (no small feat) many many times. This was the most aggravating experience to date. THANKS APPLE. NEVER AGAIN.

Three minutes? It took me two hours! But I would have never got it done without the help of this wonderful video - short but complete. There are warnings there - the sticky stuff breaks easily and it's devilishly hard to get a grip on the broken ends - when reassembling, it's very difficult to align the connectors properly before pushing them home - those microscopic screws are a pain to pick up and put in place - on removal, the spring clip covering the finger-print-scanner cable connector can, well, spring, an amazing distance, and be hard to find - and on reassembly it took me an exasperating ten minutes to align it before pushing it home. Take my advice - keep cool and be patient - you'll be amazed when the reassembled phone works perfectly first time (once you have given the new battery a bit of a charge).

My glue strips both snapped and in the end I heated up the phone on a hot water bottle and was able to lift the battery up just enough to get the strips with tweezers. Not an easy job. Thanks for the clear instructions. The only glitch I ran into was I had apparently not fully seated the first of the three screen connectors. However, I was somewhat prepared for this because I turned the phone on before moving on to the other final steps and closing it up. When the apple logo failed to appear I knew something was amiss and then I reattached the screen connectors. Got it seated and thankfully working again.

Video is very precise, would be nice if it showed the replacement tape- the one I bought did not have instructions and I ended up putting it in the wrong side. SUGGESTION. If you have smaller fingers I would suggest cutting the black pull tab so that each strip of tape is separate. you will be less likely to break the tape if you do one at a time.

This is the most stressful thing I’ve ever done... I reckon bomb disposal is easier. Never mind the incredibly tiny screws, fiddly cable clips, the sticky strips both snapped with minimal force... Now if that happens to you, get a top E string for a guitar and get it under the battery, pulling it back and forth as you work your way along the battery, like a lumberjack’s saw. That’ll cut through the sticky stuff in no time!

Thanks for the tips, I think I would have more success trying to pull an elephant through the eye of a needle than extract that adhesive out though. I had to do it twice as well, once to remove the dead battery, and again to remove a replacement from a donor phone, Both times the glue snapped immediately, had to shove something down there to prise them off gently. But it works! So glad I was able to save my old phone and photos

This video is good. It's has all the right steps and tools, and the explanation is accurate. That said, the repair process is brutal. For instance, the adhesive he mentions is a complete nightmare; the video doesn't do it justice. I ended up having to remove the battery with brute force, which was rather dangerous. Also, the tiny screws and ribbon cables are uncooperative and cumbersome to attach. Considering that replacing your battery may not solve your problem (for me, it didn't), viewers may want to consider if the juice is worth the squeeze before starting any maintenance.

I've heard stories recently about how Apple is now serializing their batteries to match a code in the phone, and it will restrict functionality if it detects it has had a new battery installed that was not done by an Apple certified repair facility. I haven't heard this necessarily applies to the First Gen SE, but for the newer models of iPhone.

You explain just right for me. I have around 1 day into it. I knew I would crack the screen but I didn't after 2 hours. Putting the metal tab back that is in the middle with 2 holes keeps me busy now because I have lost the screws, going through electronic junk to see if maybe one will fit. It is so tiny, I haven't found 1 yet. If Steve Jobs was still alive, I bet he would make those metal tabs magnetic or click in like the connections. Thanks again

Thank you so much, I was not made for this! My hands shake so hard, but I was able to do it. I did f-up the glue on the battery, but I manage to get it with tweezers and a lot of crying 🤣. Actually I struggle on all the parts, except putting the little silver bit back on the finger print reader.

Why is the LCD display also removed (the four different sized screws). It doesn't look like it interferes with the battery removal. Can't I just leave it in place while I replace the battery?

Can the battery be replaced without removing the lcd cables and shield? As long as I can make sure there wont be any stress on the cable.

thats absolutely no problem. there is really no point in removing the screen assembly. i have no idea why he sends people through that hassle, as it is extremly difficult for the regular user without proper equipment, to keep the screen connectors as clean as they need to be. then they will be stuck with stripes on their screen, because they do not know about isopropyl alcohol and what is causing the behavior. just be gentle with the screen. it allows for quite a bit of movement without breaking anything.

@@miko007 Now that I replaced the battery as was shown in the video I have come to the conclusion that you are correct. There is no reason to remove the screen. just open the screen up to 90 degrees and have someone hold it there while you remove and replace the battery. Obviously the battery cable and fingerprint sensor cable still need to be removed. If nobody is available to hold the screen you will need to prop it up against something to hold it in place while you struggle to peel out the old battery.
