Thanks for an informative and high quality video! I inline skate in my spare time. I recently started researching minimalist approaches to filming high quality wide angle shots of my skate sessions on my iPhone 12 Pro Max. I thought I found the product I needed in the Zhi Yun Smooth XS. i had decent experiences with the snoppa atom which says to have a payload of 310g... i dont know how accurate that is, since i was using an iphone x with a case.... and it crapped out after a year or so....

I think they’re going to have to. The larger phones have been a trend and they’re getting even bigger. Apple and Android. Although of course Apple has the mini versions now too… But for video and filmmaking and photography the larger ones are really the way to go. Haven’t had any trouble with the Moza and never used the Snoppa, but heard decent things...

Pretty much adding any accessories like lenses to the 12 Pro Max and you’ll have to use a larger gimbal like the FeiyuTech G6 Max or Moza Mini-P. The Crane M2 is capable as well. See links in the description. Thanks for watching!

I use the Feiyutech G6 Max and its a great gimbal, works with my Galaxy Note 10 plus with a case + anamorphic lens + step-up rings + VND filter + CPL filter with no sweat at all, and I even hand a usb-c to mic jack adapter that weights a bit towards that side with no problems balancing at all. Also, I use the very same gimbal with my Fuji X-T4 + 16mm f1.4 lens + VND filter + CPL filter, and with that I start to push its limits, but it still works flawlessly. Highly recommended. I've also had the Zhiyun Crane M-2, but that one failed to balance my smartphone rig, so definitely the G6 Max.

Thanks for sharing all that info, that’s great. Same experience with the Crane M2. Have it but didn’t even test it because it is too challenging to balance.

I have the Freefly Movi and the 12 Pro Max but haven’t tried it yet. Since I load up my camera with the Moment anamorphic lens, filter and mics, I’m afraid it will struggle and not keep things smooth. I do have the counter weights but sometimes the Movi even got a little wonky with my 11 Pro max when loaded up. I can’t afford a new gimbal if mine doesn’t work out.
@iphoneographers4 жыл бұрын
Yeah it can get a little cumbersome, but it should hold up (within reason) using the counterweights.
@haroldson54 жыл бұрын
An iPhone 12 with anamorphic, the older 62mm filter mount, and a gobi VND WILL NOT balance on its own on a Movi and the counterweights that came standard with the counterweight arm/kit two years ago. It gets close if you put all of the weights on the arm, but not quite. Using an 18 or 58mm lens, or a 67mm filter will be even more off balance. Sure, the Movi can get it to work, but it is not ideal if the phone is off balance from the start. That said, anyone looking to buy a Movi and counterweight set? Ugh.
@ajmhobby4 жыл бұрын
@@iphoneographers I was wondering if you are going to do a follow up video testing a fully loaded 12 Pro Max (Anamorphic lens, filter, mics etc) to see which gimbals handle the load best. I went out testing my gold flare anamorphic lens on my 12 pro max without a gimbal and while not bad, it wasn't as stable as I'd hope. I'll eventually test my Movi but I'm anticipating it struggling with the heavy load, even with the counterweights. I'm on a limited income so I want to make sure I get the right thing next time around. Your videos have always been very helpful for me!

Great video! Quick question, I've watched all three G6 MAX + iPhone 12 Pro Max vids, but I'll still having trouble calibrating it. In two of the vids, I've noticed you let the phone fall flat on the horizontal and then get the motor to full it up. I've done this too, but when I start using the gamble I get violent shakes. The manufacturers told me to use the "adaption" function under motor control in the menu. After it reads success, I check the motors and two are on full. This config is really over stressing the motors and I continue to get odd vibrations during use. In each vid you mention using counter weights to get the balance right before turning the motors on - something the manufactures told me is critical to prevent random jerks and shakes. Any advice on how to do this? Pretty sure the whole thing could be sorted by allowing the plate that the camera sits on to move forward. Not an accessory I've been able to find.
@iphoneographers3 жыл бұрын
Counterweights can be a good thing depending on the size of the set up. I haven’t had to use them for these setups but I have for others. I use Ulanzi universal mount counterweights. Moment and Moondog Labs make them too. Ultimately though whether you’re using counterweights or not you want to get the phone as close to balanced as possible before turning on the motors. That’s crucial. I can’t recall what I have the motors set to - it might actually just be the default setting, but I’ve not had any trouble with vibration like that. You might consider doing a reset of the gimbal motors to start from scratch. Hope that helps some. Thanks for watching!

First thing I found on Friday was the phone clamp wasn’t up to the job, so I’ve ordered another one that arrives tomorrow. But I couldn’t for the life of me get this thing to balance, is there any way you could do a balancing the iPhone 12 Pro Max with moment lens. And I spent hours trying to organise mine, and in the end the whole thing just shakes violently, I need your help.🙏🏻
@iphoneographers4 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you just need to calibrate it and/or adjust the motor strength. Look at numbers 14 and 15 on this FAQ... www.feiyu-tech.com/g6max/edu.html. Also make sure that it’s balanced before you turn it on. Doesn’t have to be perfect, just close. And make sure you have the motor locks unlocked. If one of them is locked it will not work right. Actually going to release another follow up video on this topic early next week. I personally have not had any balancing issues with it, so hopefully you can get it figured out with the above link or my upcoming video! Once you get it setup initially it’ll be easy from there.
