i see it more as the definition of nerd being very open ended. i will never consider an attractive person a nerd, since they have hygiene to be attractive, and a nerd stereotype is having bad hygiene. the guy at the beginning is a total nerd. i never saw "nerd" as reflecting any actual intelligence, just as a descriptor of someone who loses at life because they are too much of a fanatic
@LBK9782 жыл бұрын
I don't fully agree with that. Because I think people hyperfocus on the nerd aspect and neglect everything else. Because you having nerdy interests doesn't inherently make you undesirable. It's simply a quirk at the end of the day, but how you outwardly project it is where the problem can arise. If you watch anime, game when you have time to, and idk play dnd on the weekend, but you have your life together, have social skills, and know how to present yourself, you're not being hurt by being a nerd. I was a nerdy ass dude from the jump, and the big things that changed for me in the years was getting into lifting, improving my social skills, and becoming more confident. I have 0 shame to my geek game and it works just fine. Once I got confident in my self, I could exude my personality in a way good way to people I meet, and they tend to not care about my nerdy interests. At the end of the day, it's simply passions. You're not wrong that attractiveness helps, but that applies to everything in life tbh. Keep on being a geek, but please don't fit the physical and social stereotypes, as that's where you push people off. I have a friend group that started back in 7th grade. The only one who has had no interactions with women refuses to work on his style/presentation and thinks he shouldn't have to put any work into being more presentable for society. That attitude and what he does (read: does not do) for his appearance is his biggest issue.

Because they are attractive their nerdy qualities are easy to digest and some people use them as figureheads to rally behind/fetishize. Hell some people watch the movies just to see Chris Evans or Chris Hemsworth shirtless.

I'm gonna have to disagree there Aba, being a nerd is only trendy if you look a certain way that is sexually fantasized as "quirky" and as a society nerdy men are just seen as that "nerds" and it also doesn't help if he is overweight, because nerdy-overweight-men have a ton of stereotypes holding them back, where as women who are nerds just come off as being pretty and quirky. But in some rare cases it can also be a set back depending on the woman. So again, Being nerdy is only trendy if you fit the romanticized aesthetic criterias that people love about ATTRACTIVE nerds/geeks. Also the type of nerds MOST people fetishize about aren't necessarily the DND, comic book, video game loving types. Its usually the person who is obsessed with math, science, history, biology, psychics, etc.

It was painful watching it man, and I agree all the beautiful girls that are into more "nerdy" things, that's when its heavily sexualized or romanticized & lusted after, and the sad thing is girls like this who openly display it aren't available for relationships for one reason or another. The girls who are genuinely into all this stuff not because guys they know are & they want to be "cool" or "hipster" or one of the bros, and have all their own passion for it away from men entirely, those are the best ones with real compatibility to begin relationships with out of the shared passion.

Couldn't agree more, Aba. I'm 26, and I grew up with comics in my household because my Dad was a comic book nerd growing up, and he briefly owned a comic book store before he had my older sister. I read the Infinity Gauntlet/Infinity War series way, way before anyone in my age range even heard the term 'Infinity Stone.' My Dad gave me a dope Thanos figure back in the early 2000's when I was a kid, and he easily was one of my favorite Marvel villains really early on. I'm not trying to play the hipster, "uh, I liked it before it was cool" card, but I'm just speaking from the heart. The first couple Marvel movies were solid, but it got really trash, really quick. I remember kids in High School trying to outplay me with Marvel knowledge and it got really fucking annoying. I'm glad they can bring joy to people, but I prefer my 80's and 90's Marvel comics... all day, every day.

@ANIMEBEAST27 I grew up in a small country town where pretty much no one shared the same interests as me, but I have always been way bigger than my peers, so I was never bullied or mistreated because of my interests. At worst, my crush told me I was weird because I liked superheros. But yeah, I agree with Aba. There are people everywhere who share interests with other people, but it's not always obvious. You just have to find them. As for whether or not men get mistreated by men for "nerdy" interests. Absolutely. I've seen it. But people mistreat other people for every reason under the sun, so it's definitely best to just be yourself and surround yourself with accepting and caring people.

This artificial strange button pressing contest isn’t how convos naturally happen in the US. The button adds a completely different element to speed dating which makes it more about who will reject as many people as possible to boost their ego, vs actually attempting to find a partner

I was a girl nerd in the 80’s 😅 I loved everything about computers and went into computer science, where there was no girls lol. My parents wouldn’t get us an Atari, but they bought us a radio shack trs-80, so I programmed my own games in Basic and begged to go to computer camp at age 13. 🤓 Being a nerd in the 80’s was frigging awesome, especially when the movie Revenge of the Nerds came out. I had a glow-up at age 16 and became a cute nerd 😭 life was gooooddd I miss those years

Of course being a girl nerd in the 80s was awesome, you had access to numerous male nerds whom most other women overlooked. Nerds are now sought after and the competition for them is fiercer especially the finally well-off nerds and nerds who are obsessed with mainstream nerd stuff.

Been comfortable being a nerd since my 20’s. I never let the labels pin me down. I was a nerd, who played football, wrestled, played football outside at home. I was a nerd who beat up bullies, I was a nerd who threw parties. A nerd who could dance, a nerd who treated women kind. I wasn’t running up numbers 😂I wasn’t trying to either. I called gay for the wildest non-gay shit. Wife saw my value. Been married for 10+ yrs. Seen and heard about many of the women’s tragic lives who called me corny. I wasn’t the corny one 😂😂😂 . Also gamers don’t want women that don’t want them back. Many of us have great times and relationships with women who like to game with us 😂😂.

When the guy is genuinely not matching with any of the women he might go on a buzzing spree but not for petty reasons yet the girls find him to be an asshole. Then in the back rooms all the women just scream "GET HIM OUT" and when they go out instead of giving him a chance (cause he genuinely could be a suited match) their fixation is on getting him out cause all the other girls said he was an asshole (and the girl never finds out that he isn't for herself cause she gets egged on by the other women).
@jzen14552 жыл бұрын
It shows you how vindictive and tribal women can be. Once one woman label's a guy a "creep" for the flimsiest reasons like merely getting rejected by the guy or getting hit by an ugly guy, she gets other women to gang up on the guy instead of coming to their own conclusions. Guys are more likely to filter out such biased BS (not aren't completely immune) and come to their own conclusions about slandered women.

Sooooo, in my experience its cool to be nerdy but, not a nerd. It always depends on whom you're talking to. In general (from a guy perspective) women love men that have hobbies they are passionate about but, can also be kind of out going as well, and of course, have something going for you (ambition), don't be a terrible person, and also be funny-ish.
