Hi Professor, it seems like an external assassination. While it may not change the ground reality or policy, it would leave the Iranian leadership in shock that this could happen to them as well. Just like the Israelis hit the Iranian air defense system in response to the 300-odd rocket attack to demonstrate the power they have over Iran through their sophisticated technology, consider this as a warning. My money is on his having been bumped off by the IRGC. I think the IRGC was rather ticked off about revealing the iranian Missile and Drone response to the Israeli attack on Iran's embassy. Despite the scale of the response, precious little damage was done to Israel. That would have damaged the prestige of the IRGC. If it is true that Raisi was in line to become the Supreme mullah, then more such weak-kneed decisions could be expected for a long time to come. The hardliners would not want that.

Appears to be a sophisticated and professional work of assassination. The chances or probability of the one exact military helicopter crashing out of three and that particular helicopter had the Iranian President and that too just because the weather was bad or visibility was nil etc is far too less to be considered as realistic. It was probably a remote operated gadget that was installed in the chopper which triggered off some kind of engine failure or instrumentation controls failure at a considerable height is what could have happened. This will certainly change and possibly mellow down Iran's stance in nuclear weapons acquisition.

The story does not add up. There were 3 helicopters. If the number 1 helicopter decides to land due to bad weather then no 2 and 3 must land too because that’s where the Calvary is. The other two will only have proceeded if number 1 was irretrievably lost. And Iran would know exactly where to look because the other choppers know where it went down. If it was lost due to technical reasons they would not be telling the world this long story. If it was foul play then God help us all especially if the usual suspect is involved.

The conspiratorial angle is simply untenable . He'd be replaced by another who'd also probably be an accurate reflection of the power his office would hold within the Iranian system. Nothing that would invite external interventions . If at all , one might satisfy one's curiosity by looking at domestic conflicts but aside from that there's little else to be gleaned.

1. Professor your logic for US having no reason to eliminate Iranian leader looks weak. Consider a situation if Iran was trying to cross the Red Line. Close to Atomic adventure. Creation of many proxies. Iranian leader going to Pakistan with Chinese mediation etc etc. it is always less messy and economical to send a strong message to your enemy through such accidents rather than lauching all out war. 2. Same is true for Israel. Iranisn nuclear adpirations transfirming in reality is serious issue for Israel. Iran is to told about no go areas. It is difficult to accept your theory of internal people being involved in the incident. Anyway, there couid be more explainations.
