it may be actually interesting, but in ww1 and russian civil war, english .303 was allowed to be fired from the mosin in case there was no alternative. .303 bullet is largely identical (while this 30-30 is actually 0.1 mm smaller in diameter), but the case of .303 is noticeably narrower and its neck is longer (shoulders are 3mm closer to the rim). Yet it was safe to fire, fired reliably, althoug the case deformed severely often causing extraction problems. Additionally, the cartridge did not always fed from the magazine reliably. Later they even developed a field used press that reshaped .303 cases (with bullets and powder!) to match 7.62*54R profile closer.

My friend told me to watch this since he knows I own this rifle, and boy am i impressed with it. I knew my baby was tough but good lord this brings a new meaning to tough. I noticed how it was mentioned that it had a lot of recoil or "kicked like a hammer". I never really noticed any overdose of recoil because of it's weight, but all I really use is military loads of FMJ armor piercing rounds so thats probably why. All in all though great video!

Wow. Just wow. I've got a 91/30; it's my favorite of all the guns I've ever owned, and I'd never even get into the same time zone with the stuff you've done -- but it's good to know the rifle will protect me even if I make a pretty ugly loading mistake. FWIW, I found one other thing that will make the bolt stick with service loads: powder fouling from the one round in a few hundred that splits the steel case at the base of the neck. Fire *another* hundred rounds or so, and it'll get to the point it's all you can do to open the bolt with your bare hand. Clean the chamber (a 20 gauge bronze bore brush threaded into a dowel and spun in there does the job), and it's back to smooth sailing. Did I mention I love my 91/30? Did I mention it's also as accurate as the iron sights will permit? Rugged, accurate, and cheap -- what's not to love?

Generally speaking i dont understand russians hate about that video. Even now in russia and all other post soviet countries there are millions of that mosins are in storages covering with rust. Even in my small country in Belarus there are 2.7 millions mosin rifles stored in military bases and storages since they were produced in the middle of 20s century. They are "perish" there. Why you don't worry about them? and speaking about especially this mosin, I think it have there own moment of glory, thousand of people are looking about it characteristics due to this rifle.

it's well documented other bolt action rifles bolts would freeze shut after firing, however because of the mosins low tolerance machining they didn't freeze shut in the Russian winters so yes they can

I think you all should def do the video on bore obstructions. A big one would be the person who buys a milsurp rifle such as a Mosin, full of cosmoline and then takes it out and shoots it without cleaning it. My buddy just bought a mosin at a gun show and then went to a range on the way back from the gun show and shot it. Then proceeded to complain about Century "overgreasing" the rifle. Long story short, I called my buddy out on his stupidity and im amazed the barrel didint overpressure and grenade when he shot it. And that he is still alive or not severely hurt. However, the rifle is probably going to be a big PITA to properly clean now because the cosmoline is probably baked in there. He somehow put several hundred rounds through it. And thing is, people are quick to say a rifle is dangerous to shoot just because its old. I disagree. Alot of C&R rifles were made extremely well, especially most of the old Mausers. And the Mosin has been proven in this video. As long as the gun is cleaned, dosen't have excessive rust on the barrel, wasn't excessively used, and you use similar pressure ammo to what the gun was designed for, its not gonna blowup. I would say the biggest reason for old guns blowing up on people is not cleaning them and failure to inspect the barrel for obstructions. Second, would probably be rust or using too hot of ammo for the gun, especially hot reloads. But, I think a lot of these instances, its been a bore obstruction such as grease/cosmoline or dirt and the barrel overpressures and blows up. Because excessive headspace, while dangerous too will usually show warning signs (bulging brass, backed out primers, hard to extract, gases shooting out, etc). And again, just cause a gun is old dosen't mean its worn out and was used alot or made poorly. It could've been assembled, shot 5-10 rounds through it to test it, then put away in cosmoline for 100 years till you buy it. Your essentially buying a new gun in that case. And the only instances I can think of for old guns being made poorly is some of the old Spanish Mausers and the low number Springfield 1903A1's. And both of these were because of poor heat-treating, not poor manufacturing or machining. In addition, older black power guns such as the 1873 Springfield Trapdoor have weaker metal and cannot tolerate full-power modern smokeless rounds. But, do tolerate reduced power "cowboy action" smokeless rounds or modern blackpowder rounds. But, this was just a matter of the gun being designed for lower pressure blackpowder.

jason1182000 The AK-104 carbine is an incredible assault rifle and is far superior over the M4 carbine, seeing as how its 67 year old cousin, the AK-47, is just as reliable as the M4, not to mention it fires a round with more power. The FN SCARs, however, show promise in surpassing the AK-104 in quality.

you actually need dynamite to break this rifle. In Finland we have done tests. Hammer extra bullet in barrel+ammo loaded with fastest pistol powder + hammer steel cleaning rod in barrel between rifling and bullet. Shot that. Results? Rod + 2 bullets flyed out. Next we drilled hole to barrel a few inch forward from chamber. Put steel rod in the hole..welding it on. Shoot same super hot load as before. Results: Barrel cut off from welding point. Frame and chamber was ok. Bolt needed hammer to open, but headspace was still ok. Unbelievable weapon.
