Honestly, what they should've done, is that instead of making Iris the team leader, which Barry should've been, they should've kept her a journalist. Being the eyes and ears of Team Flash out in the streets, finding leads that can't be traced with technology, for example, off-the-book deals, etc. Keep Cisco as the hero/computer guy, and Caitlyn/Killer Frost as the Hero/Doctor. Joe as the voice of reason, Harry as the brains behind the team, and Ralph as the sidekick hero replacing Wally.

The reason why Barry can afford everything is that in the Season 2 Premiere, Dr. Wells(Thawne) made a will, letting Barry inherit everything he had from property to stocks of Star Labs. Even though Star Labs was shut down, Star Labs was still a multi-billion technology lab, and Barry inherited all of that. He has millions to potentially even a billion in property and technological patents.

Don’t listen to the people saying not to watch after season 4. Watch until crisis on infinite earths crossover which is in season 6. The second half of season 6 is good, and not as bad as people make it out to be. Episodes 13-15 of that season are great. So I’d recommend it Don’t watch season 7. Watch only the first 3 episodes Season 8 is underrated and pretty good. Season 9 has 2 episodes that are amazing and the best of the show but it’s not really worth it for the rest of the season which is a huge letdown.

I'd say it's worth watching the entire series and he can form his own opinion. Honestly, season 7 wasn't anywhere near as bad as people say it is. Seasons 8&9 were decent at best. The villains were questionable choices aside from Cobalt Blue(they just should have stuck a little closer to the source material with him and Godspeed). Other than that, the final two seasons were fairly decent.

Being book smart and being a good leader involve different skillsets. I think Iris’s experience as an investigative journalist translates better to her becoming a leader in this mystery solving/crime fighting team. Cisco translates better as supporting flash as vibe and “building the toys” and Caitlyn similarly translates better to supporting flash as frost and monitoring vitals and assisting medically as herself. And Harrison wells is extremely smart but he’s not a people person and thus wouldn’t really be a good leader.

Ok I’m not going to lie, iris actually does get very underestimated in flash when it comes to value to the team. Minus all of the “like or dont like her” stuff, she’s an extremely good journalist. Which was shown in season 1. During the gorilla grodd thing in season 1 when joe got kidnapped, because of her connections and they kinda places that journalist she was able to pinpoint where grodd was. She literally figured out where the meta humans came from,the particulate excelarator when know else did. That was when she gave all of her files and data to Barry during the episode when wells took Eddie. And yes she’s also an extra hand on the team when it comes to the computer stuff even if Caitlyn and Cisco are more efficient with it. Also earth 2 literally showed that iris’s actually was more towards of being a cop because of her skill set of finding clues and stuff like that. Earth 1 iris tried applying to the police academy before being a journalist but Jo said no so she didn’t go through with it. Earth 2 iris became a journalist but hated the fact of not being a cop. When she got married to Barry she quit her job and became cop. Iris is actual valuable to the team. And as it was shown this episode its become clear that both Barry and her need each other in hard spots. The encouragement in the air that was shown in season 1 during grodd, or the flashpoint episode with reminding he’s the flash. And there are times when she did call people on their mistakes or to forgive one another when Barry went back time and messed everything up. She does have influence on the group. In season 3 next to Barry she was good at holding people together. Combining that with the police academy thing, iris does in fact have potential to be a leader.
