As a winter lover, I'm always a bit sad when it's over for another year. By far the largest and main consolation for me is the return of all the birds from their wintering grounds. Welcome back, Iris. :)

Louis needs to be relocated. I know we're not supposed to interfere but every rule has exceptions. Iris is actually a national treasure, she's 29 correct? The oldest osprey we know of...5 years have been stolen from her by Louis...so many chicks lost because of an abusive father...since he reappeared this year she just looks like she's given up and it's heartbreaking. It's as if she's held hostage by her instincts, but clearly treats him like a stranger....I mean he still hasn't even brought her a fish and he tried to steal hers. I pray she doesn't lay any eggs. More so, I pray they don't hatch because the only thing waiting for chicks in this nest is suffering. And Iris' suffering as well. I remember watching a video of someone from Cornell commenting on the 2017 nest and how everyone in the town and Cornell alike were so excited to see Iris still nesting. That excitement compounded by Iris herself given her notoriety....but then 3 more years of abuse and neglect and misery unfolded and yet we're just allowing Iris to be tortured. She deserves better.
@iam1ronmom9673 жыл бұрын
I COMPLETELY COMPLETELY agree! Please give her a chance to feel happy!! Give any chicks a chance to survive. Starla (Louis’ wife?) has more of a chance to get a new mate.
@DoubleDogDare543 жыл бұрын
@@iam1ronmom967 My understanding - and I don't know how accurate it is - Louis and Starla raised a couple of clutches to fledging. So, if that's the case, Louis knows the rules. He simply doesn't follow the rules with Iris. I am assuming this year will be like last year - Louis will disappear, Iris will lay eggs but not bother to incubate them. She'll hang around all summer, then migrate again.

Say NO to Louis!!! He's a dead beat dad!
@Blortoblorto3 жыл бұрын
And let the Louis hate begin... I roll my eyes at you who anthrpomorphize Louis and Iris vis-a-vis pop culture war feminism of the United States. Iris is OLD. With age sexual viability decreases. Louis wants be as sure as he can be that he fathers chicks that survive, that doesn’t make him a “bad man” or a straw man to attach an argument about the inferiority of masculinity to femininity. You can love Iris more, but she is not served by gender politics in the comments of a nest cam.
@aliciawellnitz17993 жыл бұрын
If the male doesn’t care for his mate and offspring, the chances of his genes making it into the next generation are low to nil. They have to survive to sexual maturity and be healthy enough to find their own mates. Otherwise he’s wasting his time. It really doesn’t make sense from an evolutionary standpoint for him to spread it around, unless it’s a species that is precocious & requires little to no parental care.
@ambroziajewel3 жыл бұрын
Just like any mammal, there are proficient and deficient birds when it comes to rearing chicks. We’ve all seen it. And the fact that you call feminism “pop culture” on a bird site says much more about you than it.
@DoubleDogDare543 жыл бұрын
Well, ol' Lou did exactly as you said he had the right to do and the result was no chicks that survived.
@jamesoliveri913 жыл бұрын
Feminism is about equal rights NOT the inferiority of masculinity. You’ve got it ALL wrong pal. You are the one needlessly politicizing this. Louis was a crappy bird dad. Didn’t help raise a successful brood. THAT’S the point.
