Toby traveled to over 15 countries & did over 200 shows for the troops. This was his response to 9/11. If you haven't heard it, Alan Jackson did a song after 9/11 too & his take is very different, yet both songs describe how we Americans felt after that horrific day. Toby speaks to payback, which we were all for... and Alan speaks of the love that came out of that day. Check out his song 'Where were you when the world stopped turning?'.

Toby was originally not going to record this song but one of the generals told him after a show that this needed to be released so that all of the military could hear it performed. He didn't release it until May 2002 and it was another huge hit for him. People were feeling angry and needed to have someone express it for them and Toby did it so well.

Originally titled, The Angry American, Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue was Toby's answer to the 9/11 attacks and was also inspired by his father's service in the Army. Toby did 11 USO tours over the years, entertaining American troops. I had the fortune to see Toby five times over the years and he never disappointed. He closed every show with American Soldier and this song. His last words on stage during every performance were, "Never apologize for being patriotic. Fuck 'em." He is already missed. RIP cowboy, and thank you so much for the songs, and the memories.

Toby Keith's passing was especially difficult for me and my family. One of the last pictures I have of my brother Sam before he was killed in action was of him and Toby at a USO event in Afghanistan. 🌹Rest in Peace Toby, I am sure Sam will be happy to see you again on the other side ✝️❤️

Americans consider this the international anthem for the war on terror. It was also never meant to be released to the public. Toby Keith had wanted the song to be just some thing he performed for troops serving overseas, but he received such amazing feedback and troops told him that all of America needed to hear the song. So he released it to the public.

All you have to do is look at his Daddy.. you know it's a true story.. Toby looked just like his Daddy. I wonder sometimes if ppl overseas know the reference to Uncle Sam?. So this song was never supposed to hit the general airways. This was something personal to him in remembrance of his dad and the 911 attacks. It was something he kept as long as he was able to just playing for the troops. It is our second anthem and Toby Keith, may he rest in peace, is a national treasure.

Miss you Toby. He was one of the greats and left us far sooner then we expected. Lot of my friends went to war with this song. I live close enough to the towers to have seen the dust plume. It was eerie as hell. Even more eerie was watching a pair of AH 1W Cobra attack helicopters doing perimeter checks with 16 hellfires and 2 sidewinders on - in my back yard.

Hello. American Soldier gets to you for sure. Glad u suggested it. When I was in Iraq, "Courtesy of the Red, White & Blue" was very popular. W/all the turmoil we've had in the USA in the past 10 yrs. or so, that time in my life seems like a long time ago. Was too bad it took an attack on our country to make us all feel as "we're all in this together" (cuz we are). Anyone who wld suggest the song American Soldier is a good American though. :)

I almost cry every time I hear this when I think of our heroes not being allowed to do what they were trained to do. Thank god we did not execute WWII the way we fought Afghanistan.

Umm ... if you are going to continue reacting to music you should know that all music since about 1967 (and much from before) is recorded in stereo. This means that there are two different tracks, one for the left ear and one for the right. This provides a listening experience of closer to a live performance. When one only wears one earphone one is not getting the full experience of the song. One song on which it is particularly obvious is Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen (and the effect is also present on the cover by Pentatonix). If memory serves it is on the line "little high, little low." Listen while wearing both the left and right ear buds and you will instantly hear what I am referencing when that line comes up. If you don't hear it you are listening to a poor bootleg or a poor playback device, one of which is playing only one channel or has converted the stereo to monophone. Many other songs (virtually all in the last 35 years) take advantage of stereoscopic sound, if perhaps not to the extreme of that line in Bohemian Rhapsody, so I suggest you invest in a second set of earphones so you can both get the full experience of the songs you are reacting to.
