Love how little people know of Canada. But also kind of annoyed by it sometimes. Like how we Canadians live in igloos and ride on the back of a moose or that we get attacked by polar bears. Or that it's always cold here.
@Allenzo04
@Allenzo04 6 жыл бұрын
The Igloo and Moose things are more of a meme. What do we know about Irish culture? They Drink, fight, and are leprechauns ? It's the same for most places, we're ignorant of other areas/cultures until we learn.

irish react to newfoundland slang ( the ireland of canada)
@Maxmulham
@Maxmulham 8 жыл бұрын
+Brandon Clarke I would absolutey LOVE to see that. Too bad Irish people nowadays probably couldn't even distinguish Newfoundland from all the other provinces and would probably just assume it's just another Canadian province. That said, the Newfoundland accent(s) have gotten a lot weaker as of recent.

Brandon Clarke And that. Another interesting point is that the Irish Tricolour was influenced or based off of the Newfoundland Tricolour. If you don't believe me, just read the Irish tricolour wiki page. Though I'm guessing you probably already know this.

"I can't imagine Canadians getting drunk" Let me tell you, oh people of Ireland, that there was a drunken riot SO BAD on the college campus in London, Canada on St. Patrick's Day about 5 or 6 years ago, that it trended on social media news for a month and had memes comparing it to the peaceful celebrations in Ireland that year. When even Americans are saying your St. Paddy's Day shenanigans were crazier than in Ireland, you know you have shamed the good apologetic name of your country lol.

I'm Canadian, and I've never heard of dickered meaning drunk. My mum uses the word a lot, and she always meant it as to cut something down (usually in price). Like if we're at someone's yard sale... for example she might want to get something, but she thinks it's too much. So she says she's going to try and 'dicker' them down for a better price than what they're asking for.

"Biffed": You fell "Biffy": Washroom "Murphies": Potatoes "Tabarnac ": Quebec version of the F word, usually combined with other words. Pretty much means your cursing the tabernacle. The saying originally came from when Jim Kite was knocked by Joey Kocur in a hockey fight in 1988. Newfies and Maritimers are in large part of Irish Decent and have a colourful(no that's not a spelling error)accent.It's very similar to the Irish accent.I worked with a Irishmen who was fresh off the boat here in Toronto and it was like meeting a long lost brother or something.

^^ I've used "Dickered" to describe something right fucked, (Ie. "I wrapped my truck around a tree the other day, and she's right fuckin' dickered!"), but for describing a fellow who's become rather inebriated, I've more of an affinity for, "Buddy's right piss-faced"

I'm a 67 year old Canadian and in response to other Canadians saying they've never heard certain expressions I would like to say that in my life I've travelled the length and breadth of this country several times, and I've heard expressions in some parts that unknown in other parts! So when you say that you're a Canadian but you've never heard certain expressions, ask yourself, 'how well do I know my own country? She's a big place guys! Maybe you should get out more!

We once had a girl from Holland stay with us from late winter to early spring and we are in Southern Ontario. We ended up having a massive heatwave. 30 c plus humidity in April. Just a bit early for those temperatures. On the first day of the heatwave, we saw her walk up the driveway covered in sweat. She only brought heavy winter clothes with her. We asked if she was okay and her reply was "what the fuck is this? Does it get this hot in Canada?" "Yeah of course it does, but never this early though." She ended buying a whole new wardrobe. She was completely dumbfounded at how hot it can get here. All her life she thought 15c was the max temperature in the summer. She spent the next month sweating her ass off. It was a lot of fun for us.

Hey, I'm from Nova Scotia, Canada and a few of their fact checkers got their definitions wrong. Mickey - the tiny bottles at the liquor store check out. (a 375ml bottle is either a "pint" or a "flask") Double double - two cream, two sugar coffee, mainly from a Tim Hortons (coffee and doughnut store) Kerfuffle - Fuss Never heard anyone say "dickered" ever in my whole life.

From the comments I'm guessing that Mickey and Dickered are western Canada. We use those in Alberta all the time! A Mickey is one of those little 13 oz bottles shaped like a flask. And I Texas Mickey is one of those big ass 3L bottles!! As for Dickered, picture Trailer Park Boys (very similar to small town Alberta). "We're gonna get fuckin' dickered tonight boys!"

Canadians order coffee in Canada by asking for a double double. It is the most common coffee order. For example: Can I please have a small double double? It is understood that a double double means 2 creams and 2 sugars. The only thing you have to specify is the size. If you want milk instead of cream you ask for a double double with milk. A triple triple means 3 creams and 3 sugars.

we don't really have much slang but if you hear a conversation between a few Canadian guys it sounds similar to Irish banter but it is still distinctly Canadian. We say bud, goon, boys, fuck, and jesus a lot. But if we're not talking to our boys then we just sound pretty normal. Also it's pretty much only a small town thing; if you go to Toronto you won't hear many people talk like that
