Fun fact, although Bourbon is the national spirit of the United States, Rye whiskey was the 1st distilled whiskey in the original colonies. It warms my American heart to see our Irish brethren enjoying something so crucial to the history of alcohol in my country.

It was a sad lineup. The Wild Turkey and Jack Daniels Ryes are pretty much bottom shelf products (or at least lower shelf). Michter's Rye is a little higher, call it low-mid grade. But I suppose finding American whiskeys in Ireland is pretty limited.

@@odysseusrex5908 I don't know where you live - If you are in Ireland your choices would clearly be extremely limited to maybe only the mass-market giants, like Wild Turkey and Jack Daniels. I live in Kentucky, and I would recommend Wilderness Trace (which is a pretty new distillery but I like what they do) and Bardstown Ryes. Michter's TOASTED Rye is very good, but that's not the one they had in the video.

I’ve been gone awhile. Just came back and this Hayley lady is quickly becoming a favorite. I mean, Paddy’s still the one I’d invite to a closet for 10 minutes, but Hayley’s facial expressions and comments are just a delight!!! EDIT: I got to 7:16 and I am DYING with wheezing laughter. Fun Fact: Initially Rye Whiskey was just sold in the colors of the distillery they were produced by. One distillery (pretty sure it was Michters, BUT don’t quote me on that because others give credit to Wild Turkey) ended up just put green labels on it to help it stand out from their bourbons. It worked out phenomenally well and other distilleries followed suit and now you’ll see the vast majority of Rye Whiskies come in bottles with green labels.

For those not into horse racing, Woodford Reserve is the drink of the Kentucky Derby. Every year they put out a special bottle with artwork on the label that depicts a horse race and they also do limited additions some costing $5000 a bottle. Rye is a grass.. hence the green. It's a good winter cover crop where I am. Rye is my favorite whiskey.. and my favorite brand is Angel's Envy.. theirs is finished in rum barrels. It's lovely. It doesn't have a terribly long finish.. which makes going back for more, a little quicker.. smart distiller... and the bottle is pretty sexy too.

Back when I lived with my parents, my late pop used to have some Manhattans after coming home from work, which I would occasionally sample. I’ve ordered some, especially on his birthday, but never thought it was the same. So I saw this video and hit up the rye whiskey wiki and discovered that Canadian Whiskey is typically rye based. While I’m not sure of the brand, I remember that Dad drank a Canadian bottle. So I went out last night and bought a bottle of Jim Beam rye whiskey and it really matched my memories of my Dad’s drinks! So , thanks “RYE” channel for helping me connect with my late Pops!
