How you getting on with it? I'm thinking of buying this one
@MrSeanselleck25 күн бұрын
All right, so several interesting things running this thing for the first time map setup looks like the things vaguely drunk. But once it puts it together it's kind of scary how accurate everything is. And it seems to understand what it's looking at what dining room is what a kitchen is what living rooms are even if you have two, a bathroom all that stuff a hallway. Also I noticed the thing was changing lights like spinning light colors a lot. Apparently when it's mapping, expect to see the swirling light a lot. Once you set no go zones or it senses something to avoid it will throw up a blue light which represents a no-go zone. If it senses that it picked up a ton of crap, it'll have a blue swirling light which indicates it's going to hit that area once more. Red isn't good. And an occasional white swelling light means that it is processing and cleaning normally. I found out that after it meant the house, it said we only had 500 ft² which isn't quite accurate it's closer to 800 if not more. That being said it won't cover that size area doing two sweeps. The map system, simply don't tell it to clean everything. Delete the clean everything map. Make your own and have it clean by room, you can set the order in which it travels and which rooms might get a second pass. And this vacuum does not have suction but the patent double roller design works very well. Some things that I wish were a little bit different, when I set a no-go zone it seems like some of them aren't as accurate as what I'm seeing on the floor plan as compared to what the robot follows so watch it a few times and adjust the no-go zones accordingly. I also would like the thing to sense a little bit quicker when the rollers are jammed, the no-go zone thing I'm talking about the robot got running over the Christmas tree skirt and I had to keep saving it. Also, people mention that the robot will send you alerts about things it thinks are issues? I wish it would allow you to select more things it encountered as errors so you could give it a little bit more smarts for your house. But, really you don't need to do anything crazy with the machine. Clean it as directed in the instructions, and even though I have four girls and a wife, my old robot vacuum got hair all the time stuck in the rollers... This gets dramatically less hair stuck in the rollers by the factor of 10. Also we had a fake tree up for Christmas and it had no problems taking care of all of those extra pine needle things on the ground everywhere. The dustbin collection is mostly good, I'm just going to let it roll for a while and see how it goes, I'm not going to be one of those neat freaks that's going to say oh my goodness the thing didn't clean things out exactly perfect, it seems to get most of the stuff out, every so often the instructions say to clean it so like once a month or whatever it is. Noise levels are pretty nice. Comparable to what I've had in the past so it's not crazy quiet or crazy loud. We had our TV set to a volume of 12 and could hear the program just fine when it came into the room. My wife seemed to sleep through it just fine. One of the other things I like is that it has a battery indicator while it's charging and when it's charged. It would be kind of nice if it somehow could let you know what it's at when it's running but I suppose most people run these things when they're not home and you can use the phone to check it's battery level. As I mentioned, you don't really want to have the thing do every room with a double swipe it's always going to do a double swipe but if you turn it to two passes it actually runs like four passes horizontal then vertical and then horizontal and then vertical again. So again most rooms one pass which will be a horizontal and vertical movement, will be fine. I kind of stress test the unit its first time and had it do double passes and it took almost 4 hours that included an hour or so of it charging so it can continue about where it left off. Even with all of the junk on the floor it didn't seem to fill the dustbin or at least the dustbin sensor didn't it trigger and it seemed to be picking up so maybe we just need to be dirtier people and I can test it out one day. It also gets you an option in the program to check the map run when it's active and the history will also show you the map run so you know what areas it has hit. Needless to say most of the map stays green.

Nice review. At 9:11 referring to voice commands, can you use Siri for a specific room? All I see is “clean everywhere” when i configure the voice commands on the Roomba app.
@RobomateTV2 жыл бұрын
That's a good question, and I don't really use Siri so I don't know the answer. I believe it should be possible through IFTT app if not by default, as the functionality is definitely there with Alexa. This might be question for iRobot support or another helpful KZbinr might see your question and know the answer. Sorry I don't know this one!

Does the Cleaning station do good at its job ? And can it work in the dark
@RobomateTV2 жыл бұрын
Yes, the cleaning station seems pretty strong compared with other brands. It sort of can - it has the light on the front and the optical sensor, but the main camera still won’t be as effective.

Can this Obstacle avoidance work without wifi connection? Its questionable because if not it means it runs to database which means when the developement of this device ends it means this feature will no longer work anymore.
@RobomateTV2 жыл бұрын
That’s a really good question. Maybe you should ask iRobot for a proper answer. I assume that it stores current object definitions on board which are updated via wifi over time.

After 2 years of using the J7 I am quite disappointed. Cleaning is ok. The first map left out some corners and never corrected it, however it is vacuuming this area. For months now it doesn’t recognize obstacles anymore. Extensive research didn’t solve the problem. iRobot support never responded.

The people in the comments never heard of the word "please". There are a few ways this video can be inproved, according to the comments. If you could please tone down the music or exclude it from future videos, that would be great. Some people also claim that they know more than you, I actually think there is a very effective way to fix this by submitting a poll. You can ask viewers or the public what should be reviewd in future videos On YT. Personally, this was a great video, and i like the test set up you guys have for the tech reviews you make. I also think the verdict was so dead on, I instantly knew if this was the robot vacuum for me. The point you made that this robot is great for you if you have carpets is just right. Even the roller brushes, being they are rubber, makes more sense they would be more effective on carpet. The fact that it did that well with much less suction and those rubber brushes is actualy pretty impressive, but it makes sense this isnt the one for me, since i dont have a carpet floor. Thumbs up from me!

Nice video, very helpful. My experience: Mapping is terrible and because the mapping is so bad, that renders the no-go zones useless since I can't make heads or tales of the map it created...looks nothing like my floor plan. iRobot needs to start incorporating Lidar into their vacuums. Cameras are a way of the past and are too antiquated to be any good. iRobot recommends turning on all lights and opening up blinds just for this thing to see and map. Obstacle avoidance?? What obstacle avoidance? J7+ bumps and slams it's way into everything and anything. After two days of owning, the front of mine is all marred up already. iRobot was once at the forefront of the robotic vacuum industry and now they trail way behind companies like Roborock & Ecovacs. Even companies like Eufy & Dreamtech, the budget vacuum companies of the world, are starting to close in on iRobot. Only two days of ownership and mine is already packed up and returned.

Never buy this iRobot products. It is made by a scam company. I bought brand new from an eBay seller. It is still under warranty and it broke down. The support person told me because I didn't purchase it from an authorized seller. So there is no warranty. They told me I have to pay for the repair even though it is still under warranty. Avoid this scam company.
@joedk3253 ай бұрын
This is common practice with all manufacturers. If you purchase from eBay purchase authorized refurbished and eBay provides a 2 year warranty for most products. If buying new you must purchase from a big box retailer, directly from iRobot or possibly Amazon.
