If you have Iron Deficiency Anemia it seems you are always instructed to take pills/supplements, infusions/transfusions, but very seldom is a proper human diet discussed. There are plants that contain lots of iron, but if you can't absorb this iron, then it doesn't fix the problem.
There is a kind of iron that all humans can readily absorb, it is the kind of iron humans have been absorbing for eons. This video will help you understand which sources of iron will actually fix your Iron Deficiency Anemia.

I was unable to absorb Iron for years until a pharmacist pointed out that Iron requires vitamin C to be absorbed. Also she said to never drink Coffee within several hours of taking my vit C/iron therapy. After trying her recommendation my blood tests turned completely around. Also, Broccoli has both vit C & iron.

My mother has been anemic since she was a teenager 70+ years ago. She had even had blood transfusions for it. I finally got her on Keto/Carnivore (Mostly), with lots of red meat. She had a follow up with her doc, and they said her iron was well into the normal range (It has always been low before). They told her to quit taking the supplements (which always cause her stomach issues) and they would check it again in 3 months.

When I was a child, I had acute glomerulonephritis. I recovered, but had anemia afterwards. The doctor recommended an iron capsule. After one dose, I refused it because it hurt my stomach (after Mom noticed iron granules in flower pots). The doctor said I could eat raisins and liver. At the next visit, he admitted he had tried that iron pill and it made him very sick. It was satisfying to hear that!

@@donnayoung9215 ...🌱🪴🌷Oh this is a long one: Did you consult your doctor before you went on the Carnivore Diet - yes or possibly not; and if you did he/she may not have approved - yet you could always stop this diet if it doesn’t work out, right; same goes with any supplement; should ‘you’ decide to discontinue iron supps. in the interim - make note of your well-being (do you feel better or worse either way, you could stop or go back on the full dosage or even a reduced dosage); in my opinion, your dosage is very high especially on the Carnivore Diet; look, doctors are not always on point - mine is not; also keep in mind, if you menstruate you have blood loss or if you have internal blood loss (or Both), Iron is important in your diet; also, your body may poorly absorb iron supplements and do better with meat, seafood, eggs; and just a suggestion, you could even ween your iron dosage if you feel weary; (I quit cold Turkey and never felt better - and even on the darn Iron supps, my Doc still labeled me as anaemic - guess am a poor absorber of iron supps.); on the other hand, too much iron (iron overload): zero blood loss, high iron supp. dosage, and Carnivore Diet should be a cause for concern for anyone; and as you may know, the downside - excess iron builds up in the body - is stored in the ‘liver’ and other places in the body - only way to get rid of the excess iron is via regular blood donation; we all have doctors but sometimes, like in my case, I have to be my own doctor; look, it’s your life - it’s your health, so you gotta do what’s best for you; take care.

This is so true! In Tibetan Buddhism it is desired - NOT required - that followers be vegetarian. If anyone, including the monks and nuns, requires meat or animal products for their genuine health needs, then they MUST eat those meats and animal products - they are required to look after their physical and mental needs, in order to look after themselves, and their families if they have them, and be able to do their religious practices (which often require physical and mental alertness and endurance).

The original comment just might be closer to become truth than we realize. Governments are trying like hell to limit access to healthy meat and animal products. If the backers and pushers of the vegan movement keep getting their way, their momentum will continue to snowball and sooner or later their agenda of eliminating meat consumption will start to become reality. In future decades it might just be possible that you’d need to get some sort of “permission” to acquire healthfully raised products from animals. If you can get any at all.

All the doctors advised me to take iron supplements and didn’t recommend iron found in foods. My primary doctor prescribed Prevacid for me which made my anemia worse and I gained 25 pounds while taking this drug. After having 10 sessions of iron infusions and dumping all my doctors, I discovered keto/IF on my own and lost 100 pounds improved my GERD and feel great. I had iron deficiency anemia since I was 10. 40 years later I learned that parasites use your iron to survive. So if you have anemia you should get checked for parasites using non traditional stool testing before supplementing as you would just be feeding the parasites. I was severely anaemic about 5 years ago. I read up about absorption of iron and vitamin C really helps this. I made sure to eat vitamin C with every meal, whether it heme or non-heme and later discovered that I had managed to get my iron levels back to normal within 2 months which is unusual. I was scolded (that's how she came across at the time 😁) initially by my Doctor after she showed my blood test results and diagnosed me, asking how I didn't realise I was anaemic, as I was at the level that she had referred patients to hospital for blood transfusions. I had been getting on with life, and a lot of stresses for years and didn't realise I was ill until I experienced shooting pains from my left arm, through my chest to my right arm. That was when I rang to request an appointment and was given an urgent appointment, not realising that my body was giving me warning signs. I would definitely emphasise that people take vitamin C or eat meals that contain vitamin C. A really good dish that helped boost my iron levels was slow-cooked homemade chilli-con- carne, as beans contain iron, tomatoes, vitamin C, and fresh parsley, coriander and basil (which I added) also contain non-heme and vitamin C. Spices and herbs such as chilli powder also contain iron and some vitamin C. I had read on occasion that vitamin C helps combat the effects on phytic acid with regards to iron absorption. I would also say too, that if any females reading this, are experiencing heavy periods, whether lengthy or not, to request they are checked for uterine fibroid too, as they can cause unusually heavy blood flows. I had gone to a previous doctors surgery about 7 years prior to this, mentioned to a nurse that I was experiencing heavy and longer periods. I had just hit my 40's and she told me "that's normal for women in their 40s". It isn't. I had been walking around with this for some time.

I have issues absorbing iron and I eat anything and everything, when hungry, I didn’t know the vitamin C trick, did you take vitamin-C as pills or just from foods. I’ve seen doctors and it’s like opening a pandora box, they find all source of issues but I haven’t seen good results with their treatments.

@@titorj4498 Hi, Sorry, I have only just seen your question. OK, well, when I was severely anaemic, I didn't take vitamin C tablets. It was down to researching it all myself because I wanted to understand how iron absorption worked and food levels etc. I just added foods with Vitamin C. If you go online and Google e.g "vitamin C in orange" say, there are nutritional sites that give estimates of vitamin C/100g of food. You can also search "Foods high in Vitamin C" (and do this for iron too)and there are websites that throw out info. If you eat everything and anything, then you need to look closer at your diet. If you are eating, say, a lot of foods with calcium in, such as cheese, or drinking milk, or you drink a lot of tea or coffee, there are iron absorption inhibitors in these particular foods and beverages. Anything containing caffeine usually has these. I can't remember the names of them off the top of my head, at the moment. Beans are loaded with non-heme iron, especially chickpeas/garbanzo (I'm in the UK so we tend to call them chickpeas) but they also have compounds in them that can prevent iron absorption into the body, so I always include food containing Vitamin C in the meal, where I can, to help the iron levels. I was a never a big meat eater which didn't help because the body accesses heme iron much easier and doesn't need vitamin C to help that along. Even with meat, I accompany that with food containing vitamin C. There are loads of vegetables that contain Vitamin C but if you eat a lot then maybe load your plate up with those. I also cover the vegetables with Extra Virgin Olive Oil so they do not taste dry, as that is strictly non dairy. I steam the vegetables too, as this keeps the flavour in, and steamed food hold nutrients more than boiling. It's a very healthy way of cooking. You can buy cheap electric steamers as well as hob steamers, that are really easy to use. If you tend to reach for food items containing pastry, pasta /white flour - then try to cut this out too, as they block iron. There are some grains such as bulgar wheat, that contain iron, lentils contain iron. Pulses and grains that are unprocessed contain iron. There is a lot to possibly cut out or minimise with diet. When I was severely anaemic, I cut everything out that I knew obstructed iron absorption. By the way, this was while I was taking a high dosage of iron tablet but it sped the process up of getting back to normal levels extremely quickly. My GP was shocked at how quickly I had managed to get my levels back to normal. I also - on occasion ate dark chocolate - the highest cocoa percentage I could find - because I was missing the treats but I made sure not to eat loads and to eat a piece of citrus fruit before. Dark chocolate and cocoa is loaded with iron and other essential nutrients, electrolytes etc but it also contains a compound that they are still questioning might "lock" the iron in from the body, so I ALWAYS ate citrus fruit before tucking into the chocolate and I wonder whether that helped, because it definitely didn't hinder it. I hope that helps. A lot of the dark green leaved herbs contain iron too, so that is also a good way to make a meal taste more interesting but up the iron a little bit more. Another food I ate, which everybody I have told, has always turned their noses up and looked like they were going to gag at the thought of it, was oats (in porridge), not processed in any way. I would add water, would NEVER add milk, to boil them. They are high in iron, and I would either add orange pieces or sliced strawberries berries to it (for the vitamin C)... or when I had days where I felt I couldn't handle lower flavour, I would put some raspberry or strawberry jam into it and mix it in, but I would NEVER add milk. Sugar (I think brown, rather than white, but not 100% sure whether white does or not, so best look that up) is said to increase iron absorption too, but obviously don't eat too much of it - keep it to natural sugars within the fruit itself if you can most of the time. Over time, I noticed that my taste buds adapted to natural foods more anyway, and I could taste the natural sugars and flavours more intensely when I cut out added sugar from my diet. Just a side note: I have "Vitamin C and Iron" tablets now that I buy from Holland & Barrett in the UK. I always have these on standby now, for days where I realise I haven't eaten much iron high, foods. I got these because the vitamin C is combined. And I just remembered, nuts contain iron too, so if you can eat those, then add those to your diet. They are nice as snacks, and they have other health benefits - almonds and pistachios are a favourite of mine... and cashews. Also beef, pork (this also contains Vitamin D - there is research emerging now, linking low D levels to low iron levels too), liver (chicken liver is high in iron. I think that it might be that pork is higher too. There's two particular livers that are loaded with iron but you have to be careful to not eat too much due to the Vitamin A levels in it as it can be dangerous eating too much vitamin A), chicken (especially thigh meat), eggs, although the white contains an iron inhibitor, so best to eat vitamin C food to accompany this - watercress and rocket/arugula with poached egg is really tasty with some lemon (add a slice to the) water, seafood & fish contains Iron.

I’ve gone legume, seed and nut free. I was so happy to see my ferritin levels improving through diet. I’ve been deficient for many years. I’ve had numerous tests and nothing has worked until now. Eat foods that make you poop regularly bc fibroids happen from toxic buildup in the bowels. Lose some weight if you’re overweight because we store estrogen in our fat. Make sure to eat organ meats like liver, heart, etc to build up iron and b vitamins lost through heavy bleeding. Bingo! Ding ding ding! Mystery solved. Thank you, Dr. Berry. I've been chewing on ice for months and while I recognized it was anemia. I thought I just wasn't eating enough iron. After listening to your video, I think it's the proton pump inhibitors! I've been weaning myself off of them (thanks to your ACV video) but I've been on them for years. I've had gastritis at times and never thought I could do it, but I'm almost there. My kidneys thank you. I'm also getting back to a ketogenic diet again after being off of it for about a year. Thank you for doing these videos.

I've been struggling with low iron for a few years. Iron supplements were prescribed by my doctor. I was constipated and after taking the iron pills for 6 months no changes in my blood work. Your absolutely right about getting your iron through meat. Thank you so much for confirming exactly what I'm going through. Great video!

You can also take iron bisglycinate to get iron without it upsetting your stomach. Same for copper glycinate

@@r.williams8725 Thanks but I have gone back to eating beef and my iron levels have jumped from zero (literally) to 65 !!! 15 points above the lowest normal result. It’s changed my life. Back to my 2019 normal health before I cut out beef. Everybody tells you how bad it is for you so…… (Although my cholesterol was normal and I have no issues with my heart.) Had no idea that was the issue. It cost me tens of thousands of dollars in medical costs and a doctor on KZbin cured me!

I had it years ago and then had a total hysterectomy. I thought since I was done with periods that I wouldn’t have to worry about it. I was wrong. I passed out in October and fell down my stairs. Apparently my hemoglobin was dangerously low.
