Daniel, the Hyperion series is epic and fantastic. My favorite by Dan Simmons, however, is a duology of Illium and Olympos. It combines Greek mythology, the Trojan War, AI, Shakespeare, Proust, dystopian future Earth, and the 144,000 Jewish Remnant. I am the person who sent you the Magicians Triology a year ago. Love ya, Blue Eyes!

It sounds like EYE, and the Shrike is a type of carnivorous bird. The are very effective hunters/killers, and they are also known as butcherbirds. And a butcher the Shrike certainly is, if not as kind as its bird namesake.

“I am Cassius au Bellona, son of Tiberius, son of Julia, Morning Knight and my honor remains.” One of my favorite scenes from all of Red Rising. For most people Iron Gold ranks lower on their list of RR books, but I think each book in the series is better than the previous. So Iron Gold is my second favorite book in the series. However, when I first read it I was kind of disappointed. It wasn't until my second and third reads when I finally saw how amazing it is. I think the hype of waiting for it to be released, and then reading it in like a day kind of hurt my opinion on it. The quality in Pierces writing really takes a step forward in Iron Gold. Pierces prose is my favorite of any author. He gets my heart thumping like nobody else, except maybe Brandon Sanderson in the Stormlight Archive.

Linguistically... it's just grammatical regularization of the paradigm based on the fact that the word prose has a phoneme that's typically used for plural. The only reason you wouldn't assume it's plural is if you know that noun typically has no plural (because it's uncountable), which makes it irregular.

While Hyperion is probably the best of the 4 Hyperion/Endymion books, Dan Simmons is just a master of his craft. Ilium/Olympos are also fantastic.

It's always good to see Hyperion appreciation. Hyperion and the Fall of Hyperion were originally written as 1 book that got split into 2. that's why it just ends very suddenly.

@@Rendref Lol, fair. I see your point but as Daniel himself said in his comment above that didnt load before we had this convo, his house has spots where its really hot during the day due to window placements, and besides that, I probably wouldn’t get up out of my office to look for a shirt just so I could film a 30 second cut-in clip for a video.

@@ryankong8713 I mean, it's a public review video, not some vblog. Some authors watch it. I think last thing a person watching a public book review expects is a random shirtless cut-ins :-)

So glad you enjoyed Hyperion. The first two books are really more of a duology and are best read as a pair. No spoilers, but the abrupt ending reveals itself to be necessary as soon as you get into book 2 and the characters get where they're going. Have fun!
