So is Nicko.( and Clive) That really makes it so much easier. Don't have to think because the drums are so damn solid.

It’s one of Steve’s Least favourite songs to play live as well (hence that they avoided it early days) Until the they brought it back in the legacy of the beast tour

When the drummers and the bassists chemistry work, it's a half a band. Drummer and bassist are the heart and a rythm of band. I can tell this as a bassist. :)

I remember buying a bass guitar in 1983 as a senior in high school. It was a fender copy and I always wanted to play the bass. This is one of the songs I would play along to as I was teaching myself how to play. It was a struggle at first because Steve is top notch on the bass.

I like the story about how the when Maiden was practicing flight of Icarus before they were about to record it in the studio and Steve said to Nicko " it's a bit slow, Play it a bit faster" 😄
@tralhas3 жыл бұрын
Bruce stated that Steve never liked the song. "Steve never liked it. He thought it was too slow, but I wanted it to be that rocksteady sort of beat. I knew it would get onto American radio if we kept it that way, and I was right." Thank God for Bruce to stand his opinion!

I totally agree! What a great bassist he was! On all the albums he played he always had done a very good job. He is not so well known, sadly... I wrote about him on an italian bass forum when he died, and no one even commented... And his band too should have been much famous. Many young HM listeners barely know them, and I've always thought that it is absurd! Mercyful Fate is one of my favorite HM bands since the first time I listened to their music, back in 85. They are way better than many bands more famous than them, in my opinion. Greetings from Italy!

He used a very midrangey tone boosted around 400 hz. Add that to an already mid heavy Fender P bass played through 12 inch speakers and voila.
