+maidenrulz73 Yep. Nicko is vastly inferior and doesn't hold a candle to Clive's savagery. The stated reason for kicking him out was bullshit too. "Substance abuse problems" my ass. Everyone was going through shit like that, even Bruce has stated it himself. To this day, they haven't given a proper explanation for why they sacked the poor guy.
@scottwoods64198 жыл бұрын
+ShadowStrangle55 The greatest tragedy in the history of Metal. Nicko is a joke compared to Clive. I saw 2 nights of the Powerslave tour (the nights they recorded in Long Beach for Live After Death) The drumming on Clive's songs was pathetic. Nicko can't pull off any of Clive's songs. I don't care how many fucking albums they put out, the first 3 with Clive were vastly superior to anything since.
@19megamustaine858 жыл бұрын
+Hellraiser Gordon who sacked him mainly Steve right ?
@GorditoCrunch3438 жыл бұрын
+György Hirschléger Yeah, Steve is the overlord of the band. Him and Rod Smallwood most likely came to a collective decision to replace Clive with Nicko. I'm also suspicious that Nicko may have influenced their decision as well, since he was their roadie at the time. Of course, they all blame it on "substance abuse".

No Maiden performance will ever top this. There is just so amazing energy in it, an air of anger, ambition, violence and hope. No theatrics, no huge stadiums, just pure heart and great playing. And, of course, Paul Di Anno whose voice I consider among the best rock voices ever, plus the impeccable drum machine called Clive Burr, may he rest in peace. Bruce is an excellent singer and Nicko is a good technician (although rhythmically somewhat unstable), but that line up was just the best, the true Iron Maiden. Harsh, dirty, punky, street metal - and it has aged so much better than the Bruce stuff of the stadium era.
@davidhooks6325 Жыл бұрын

@@davidhooks6325 I bought the 1st & 2nd album when they were released. Saw them live on their first album tour & met band members. D'ianno was the sound of Maiden. @davidhooks6325 Жыл бұрын
@@Paul-hl8ygShit dude I love Di’Anno too. Both him and Bruce have things that the others don’t Paul has the rougher “street” metal voice, Bruce has a voice for telling epic stories Paul has a more relaxed stage presence, Bruce is more energetic and is bringing the songs to life Paul has more rebellious “punk” lyrics, Bruce’s era has more deeper epic, story lyrics Like I said both have things that the other doesn’t. Steve Flynn had some amazing drum work too. Fantastic track...I think Phantom of the Opera really show cases what a classic maiden track should be. Clive, Dennis and Paul all helped get Maiden off the ground and we should not try and air brush them out of maiden history. Maybe one day get Paul, Bruce and Blaze all on the same stage singing together would be epic!!

I was talking about who sings better the song. It's a way to say :P
@psteeg35519 жыл бұрын
Leandrito Arroz Haha I know. I think Paul did a decent job on the vocals, though Bruce had some amazing perfomances of songs from the first two albums. Anyway for me the vocals of this song do not matter much, the guitar and bass are what made it my favourite ;)
@scottwoods64198 жыл бұрын
Leandrito Arroz Dickinson should be prohibited by law from singing this or any Di'anno songs. He completely rapes them.

Living in the U.S. I didn't discover Maiden until 1982, so I am a Dickinson guy, but all respect to Di'Anno! He was a force of his own. Up the Irons!! *

Still in high school at the time, and living in Queens, New York, I became a Maiden fan in 1980 when their debut LP was released, as I was getting into the NWOBHM scene. The early '80's ruled for heavy metal! When The Number of the Beast was released in 1982, I was blown away by Bruce's vocal abilities.

Same but I discovered Maiden a year ago (I'm a teen that's the reason). Well, I heard things about Eddie and Bruce Dickinson and some songs like Afraid to shoot strangers, Fear of the Dark or Aces High, but I became a fan a year ago. I discovered Iron Maiden with Dickinson and when I listen to Paul or Blaze, I respect them and they're cool they did great job in Maiden but Bruce is Bruce.

The style of Iron Maiden and Judas Priest, twin guitar, amazing synchronized/harmonized solos by all instruments is a lost art. The two masters of metal bands cannot be imitated by anyone.

I agree with you, it sounds amazing and these bands specialize in it. Maiden and Priest are two of my favorite bands. If you like that harmonizing guitar you should check out some Thin Lizzy (maybe you already have). Those guys invented the sound and rock pretty hard. They may not be metal but they were definitely a huge influence.

Axl Kix Yes, Thin Lizzy did this well. The Boys Are Back in Town is a prime example. The Allman Brothers did it as well.

The first two albums of iron maiden are my favourite albums, it is as good it iron maiden or music in general gets for me, not that i do not like the subsequent albums, they have an incredible body of work, i just think the sound was very different in the first two albums, they certainly feel faster and more aggressive, due to the punk influence no doubt, for me those two albums are a gift to people like me that love heavy metal.
