In comparison 147 and 160 are far worse most of the top guys are in their early 30s and still fighting weak opposition, for example the fact that a 42 year old is fighting the best opposition at 147 in the last two years says everything about it and 160 ain't any better.

Man Razor Ruddock has to be one of the most underrated heavyweights of all time. Yes he never got the title, but he was an absolute force who took one of the scariest heavyweights through deep waters. Very few have the right to say they competed with Tyson, but this man surely does.

My dad took me to the Convention Centre to watch this live on a big screen when I was a kid and I met George Chuvalo there. He was really cool and showed me how to throw a punch. He tried for 2 years to fight Riddick Bowe and Bowe wanted nothing to do with him. Most people were scared to fight him in those days, if they were not scared their handlers and managers were. Evander Holyfield would have fought Ruddock but Lou Duva wanted nothing to do with him. The Duva's were seeking a box office superfight with Tyson, then ended up fighting Buster Douglas after he upset Tyson.

There’s a beautiful knockdown in Tyson v. Ruddock II. Ruddock throws the smash and Tyson leans back, loading up one of the most amazing counter straight rights I’ve ever seen, might be my favorite knockdown of all time. Mine is Ali vs Fraizer 1. That counter hook meant alot more than anything I could've imagined in that time. It undeniably was, a lot of the characters in the anime are a reference to real boxing fighters. Ippo being shorter than his opponents, using peekaboo style with lots of ducking and weaving, packing frightening fast and powerful punches at very close range is all a reference to Iron Mike. Morikawa trully loves boxing, and his manga is a beautiful homage to it.

The thing about Tyson wasn't that he couldn't overcome adversity in the ring, though there is some truth to that, it's that you could often tell when he was going to lose before the fight started. Douglas, Lewis, the second Holyfield fight, Tyson was missing that intensity he usually had before the fight started. You could visually see it if you look back at the pre-fights, he wore it on his face which now seems obvious when you see how much trouble he had controlling his emotions. He couldn't hide his intensity and focus and he couldn't hide when he lacked intensity and focus.

We just really didn't think about mental health back then and how it had an effect on athletes but with Tyson, himself being more on the extreme side, combined with the chaotic nature of boxing and the fact that you're on your own in the ring it becomes much more conspicuous.

Yes it’s definitely an under rated pair of fights, both men were not the same afterwards with Lewis smashing Ruddock in a couple if rounds and Tyson going to jail. This version of Tyson had tenacity and head movement. Much different to the version that Holyfield beat. The second fight with Ruddock was the last time Tyson looked invincible.

The two bouts with Ruddock were in my opinion the last times we got to see Mike Tyson at his very best. Many boxers after reaching thier goals and having made millions, they find it difficult to put in the work in the gym to stay at thier best. @@sirchi8731 I doubt that. Lewis was also out of his prime during their fight, and still managed to keep Tyson at bay with his jab. In his prime, not only would Lewis be much faster in tracking Tyson's head movement, but would be much more willing to set up power shots. Tyson would be more aggressive of course, but Lewis could handle quick fighters simply through his jab and reach. Lewis by either knockout again or by majority decision.

People who say Mike can't handle adversity are fools. Mike had to deal with a lot of adversity in his childhood. But when he was in the ring, he was just too good to need to show everyone that he could move past adversity. A focused and determined Mike Tyson, is arguably one of the best heavyweights in Boxing history.

A lot of paying spectators get really pissed about questionable stoppages in fights, for reasons obvious. *yet, if anyone has seen what a wet brain boxer looks and sounds like, they may be more understanding. A quick search of what James Toney sounded like early in his career, and what he sounds like now? should give a chilling perspective upon why it's more important to be safe than to be the referee responsible for that kind of negligence.* After all, this is Mike Tyson punching this guy's head. 😎🇺🇸

I agree. I’ve seen way to many instances when people are being hit hard but still able to fight but the ref stops it. People like meldrick Taylor against Chavez was an interesting one since the ref stopped it 2 seconds before the end of the fight. It was a good stoppage however since he couldn’t defend properly and he was taking some of the hardest shots he ever did. Later on in life he had a lot of problems and lord knows what would of happened if that fight went another 2 seconds

I get your sentiment, but I think it is misguided. These men are aware that injury is possible when they CHOOSE to box. The only thing that allows them to make money boxing is the FANS. So don’t come around with the “poor little guy” card. Fans get cheated when a referee gets to decide when enough is enough. Boxers hire trainers and coaches who have the ability at any moment in a fight to throw a towel into the ring to stop the fight. Giving these referees the power to stop a fight for any reason is an open invitation for CORRUPTION. Boxing already has enough issues with corruption, without giving any more excuses or opportunities for it.

no he wouldn’t at all. at this point tyson has already become the youngest heavyweight champion of all time, held all belts of the major sanctioning bodies and was by far the boxer held in the highest regard by the world and one of the most famous athletes. his record at this time was 39-1-0 and he was the clear favourite coming into this and the rematch which he also won. razor ruddock is for sure a warrior and deserves more recognition but the idea he would replace mike tyson due to one win over him is ridiculous.
