Have had my IM's for almost 20 years now. I power lifted and used olympic weights 20 years before that. I have never regretted the cost or found anything that I felt was better to make me switch and I am in far better shape using only dumbells instead of barbells now. They are very tough and durable and well balanced and I can attest to their lifetime warranty. After 10 years, the chrome on my handles started peeling and rusting and was sharp as a razor blade. They cut me several times. IM took them back and sent me new handles no questions asked and promptly sent me new ones. I don't think I'll ever give my IM's up and will pass them down to my son. They are a great company. Can't say enough good about them.

I feel like the Ironmaster ecosystem is the ultimate bedroom gym. You have enough room for the bench, the stand and plenty of attachments in even the smallest bedroom and I bet the lat pulldown attachment and the hyper attachment could both fit in the closet together and the rest could fit on the wall mount.

I bought the same kit a few weeks ago. I think I used an old affiliate code from when you first got the Ironmaster bench. I've enjoyed using these dumbbells a lot, especially since I've never used adjustable dumbbells before. I also ended up getting the dumbbell spotting stand to pair it with the Ironmaster bench, which has saved my knees/thighs from the pain you mentioned when setting up for a press or other exercise. If you think you want to get even heavier, Ironmaster does offer the 165 lb add on kit, but you have to contact them to order it since they show it as out of stock on the website. Thanks for the review, I agree with your pros and cons and it makes me feel more confident that I made the right choice with the Ironmaster ecosystem instead of some of the other adjustable systems on the market.

Pretty similar experience to you. I had the Repins on pre-order, mostly for higher end weights since I have a fixed set that's reliable up to 75. Right around the time the first Repin delivery delay, a set of IronMaster 120 lb plus the (cheaper) stand popped up on FB MP for the price of the 70 lb set new. I've added the heavy handle to get to 135 and may soon need the next expansion (with your affiliate link, of course). Extremely happy with the decision to go IM rather than Repin.

its good to cancel the repins because we don't know how long it will take for them to ship out while they hold your money for months. We don't know what's going to happen next year so it's best to hold off on the repins and keep the money in your pocket for any emergencies. I agree iron masters are more solid but it does take a long time to adjust especially if you're in quick workout. I will only purchase repins next year in black Friday if they have 10% off. I own urethane dumbbells 5-75lbs but I want the 80-125lb repins to complete my set one day.

I've had almost the entire ecosystem from IM for about 7 years now.. All the attachments for the bench, as well as the 120lb DB set. I also own a set of "Commercial" Power blocks that go to 90lbs. I can't imagine giving up my IMs for anything. I grabbed the Powerblocks for an additional option while working, not to replace the IM. Sometimes having more than two dumbbells standing by is key (for me anyway). This was a great and honest review of them and I totally agree with just about everything you said. Been using the ironmasters for almost 5 years and I'm keeping them despite having used Reppins. They are solid and honestly feel the most like a regular dumbell especially with the heavy handle kit...no rattle, no cage. For some exercises, the longer handle shaft is better. The only real issue with Ironmasters is that it takes a little more time to adjust weights compared to fast select competitors, it's still very fast to do.

This was a helpful video, I'm still trying to make up my mind about what dumbbells to get. For the first time in my life, I'm taking fitness seriously and I'm currently stuck with a pair of Bowflex 552s that I just can't stand because of how bulky they are, plus I'm getting close to maxing them out on some exercises. The Repins have all the hype, and I probably would have bought some already if they were available in a reasonable timeframe, but the more time goes on the more I'm looking at other options. The Ironmasters are definitely a popular adjustable dumbbell option, and look to be one of the most compact options as well. The weight change process is certainly a bit cumbersome, but seems like it wouldn't be too bad with a bit of practice. Though, drop sets would be tricky. I don't currently do those, but I might someday.

I have these along with my Harambe System. As long as you aren’t doing super sets these are great. I use the Titan Fitness dumbbell stand instead of the Ironmaster stands. It’s cheaper than the Ironmaster options, has a smaller footprint, and has more than enough capacity for all of the plates. If I ever figure out an exact weight for super sets I might just get a few stand alone dumbbells as an option. Edit: I also like the eco system as you highlighted. I’m probably going to be buying the vest to do some weighted dips and pushups which is a nice item to have.

I considered the Titan Fitness system as well, but I wanted something I could wheel around my basement. I love my iron master dumbbells. I have them in with the heavy handle kit, and use them for heavy work. The fun thing about that is when I'm lifting heavy with low reps, I'm also taking longer rests, so there's plenty of time to change the plates. I kept my Bowflex 552s, and use those for drop sets or when I want faster, lighter work. I think there is a good argument to have two sets of adjustable dumbbells. You can totally get 25 poinds to work on the ironmasters. Also the weight with the heavy handle kit on top of the standard 75 pound kit is 90 pounds, that goes up for the 120 pound expansion kit since together with the heavy handle kit that maxes out at 135 pounds, or 180 pounds per side with the second expansion kit. Basically the heavy handle kit adds 15 pounds per side to each of the three "stages" of weights offered by ironmaster which are 75, 120 and 165 per side without the heavy handle kit.

I've had my IronMaster DBs for 16 years and they are still going strong. Fantastic product and ecosystem. I think there is value in having more than one set of adjustable DBs, whether it's for a workout partner or for movements where I really value quick changes. I use my IronMasters when I need weights in excess 50lbs+ (or Kettlebells with their Kettlebell handle accessory) and I currently use Rep Quickdraw DBs for 50lbs and less (curls, lateral raises, etc - or for a weaker workout partner). I have looked at Iron Master, and talked with them a bit. I bought a 45lb and a 75lb Hoist adjustable dumbbell sets back in the 1990s. After a little research, I found that Iron Master bought their patent. Iron Master made a few changes, but they appear to be very identical. One proof is that their 15lb add on plates fit my dumbbell set. I agree with you that they help reduce the spacing on the handle, making lifting easier. Iron Master did tell me that the changes won’t allow me to use their upgrade to 120lbs. So, If I do move beyond my current 90lbs, I may purchase it. Until then, I’ll check in with reviews such as yours. Thanks!

@hartzogLovesScience
@hartzogLovesScience 3 күн бұрын
@ If you can find them, I would. Hoist had two adjustable dumbbell systems, 45lbs and 75lbs. Unlike Iron Master’s hole, the Hoist system uses a u-shape cut-out for their plates. This allows you to add or drop weight without taking the screw out. The plates have dimples that prevented them from slipping. As I mentioned earlier, I still have and use my, and I am very satisfied. Since I’m now pushing more weight, I wish that they accepted more weight. Again, as I mentioned, their handle, and Iron Master’s handle have identical dimensions, so there 15lb add does work with the older Hoist.

I always liked the ironmaster dumbbells. Very good materials. Simple, reliable design. Very compact. They don't require a special stand or base to use. The square shape means the dumbbell will stay wherever you put it (sounds like a joke, but a dumbbell rolling/moving when set down can be a big issue). Unlike traditional dumbbell handles or even certain quick adjust dumbbells (like the old Bowflex dumbbells) these can rest upright on your thigh or knee without hurting you. It's so easy to add kettlebell functionality. That weight vest is easy, nothing fancy just does the job. These Ironmaster dumbbells clearly seem the most durable, compact, droppable, with the heaviest upgrade path. The drawback is obvious with no surprises-slower to change weights. Appreciate it Brandon! Hey, I'm throwing this in there as part of that category. Big reason I've been considering Ironmaster (for awhile now) as the "quick change" DBs are taking over is because I think my demographic (and myself) are looking for things that maximize space but still super versatile. Also as long as these as things have been around, I'm actually surprised on the lack of coverage they actually have.

I also bought a cheap "Apex" loadable kettlebell that fits the Yes4All plates. So I spent around $300 all-in, and I have a pair of 45 lbs dumbbells, a pair of 22.5lbs dumbbells, and a 40 lb kettlebell -- all adjustable and interchangeable with the Yes4All iron plates. Have you seen the Eisenlink dumbbells? They are very similar but use a previous Iron Master design with some minor improvements to keep the weights locked in while also costing less. I wonder how feasible it would be to combine those Eisenlinks with standard weight plates to create a nice budget option that can be changed quick-ish for lighter weights but still goes very heavy. Or alternatively, something like the Kensui Adaptabells Max which is basically similar to the Iron Master handle but meant to be used with your existing plates and doesn't have any quick-change mechanism.

If IM ever chose to remake the dumbells, I think it'd been better to make these in an octagonal shape. That way, they still wouldn't roll freely, but they'd be closer to round, and have a slightly shorter radius on the corners (12:40). And for an exercise like DB pullovers, it'd feel more natural on the hands.

IMs are perfect for people who lift heavy and will withstand drops better than adjustables. I dislike how thick the handle on the IMs is, I bought some used Powerblock U90s. PBs are great for pressing but I admit curls do feel weird on them.
@hybridresistance
@hybridresistance 13 күн бұрын
I agree there. By "thick" are you talking more about the width of the stock handle? Because I think the dimensions are actually pretty normal or small compared to at least my Snode's. The access space or width is an issue, which I way I'd suggest the heavy handle kit for sure. I also think PBs are still great if you're not too particular with certain exercises. One thing I wish I did when I had my PBs was switch out the handle for the aftermarket knurled ones.

I had the ironmasters for over 10 years. Loved them other than the feel of them. Had the powerblocks too. One thing that isnt mentioned about the ironmasters is the off axis shift of the weight when pressing heavy. With 100lb plus weight doing incline presses for example the weight of the dumbell will shift because of the shape of the dumbell. The Reppins feel more like a gym dumbell moreso than the ironmasters because of it. Hard disagree on feeling like the powermasters. The Reppins have rails not a cage. They are nothing like the powermasters. Nor do they feel like it. After using the ironmasters for ten years trust me, you will be getting the Reppins before long. The ironmasters are great, no doubt. The Reppins are just better. And i haved use all three. The Reppins are the best on the market. And no the pop pins cannot come loose. I have no idea why you are saying that. The pop pins are held in by magnets and fit into a groove. You have to actually pop them in and out. No amount of incidental contact will move them.
@hybridresistance
@hybridresistance 12 күн бұрын
Really appreciate the comment. Regarding the pop pin issue, this review shows what I was referring to kzbin.info/www/bejne/Zpupk62OrZt9kKMsi=-crcAosAyJ0kNPpr&t=493 I don't know if it made the cut, but I was riffing or noticing that the block design possibly possibly has something to do with when you curl there's this transfer of weight. Someone into physics might be able to answer this. Regardless the rails (for me) gave the power block vibes for being a slight limiting factor on what can be done with it in general. Overall the though for me it was it there growing eco system (I know they got some cool stuff on the way), the tighter compact fit, no rails, and heavier weight capacity without the need of a cradle. Really appreciate the comment and for watching again.
@chelious1973
@chelious1973 12 күн бұрын
@@hybridresistance I agree with you. The ironmaster eco system is fantastic. I have the superbench also and use it quite a bit. Still disagree on the pop pins. Look at the video. He is holding the rails! Of coarse you can pop the pins out. You are not supposed to hold the rails. Used as intended, like holding the handle, the chances of the pins coming out are about zero. After watching your video I tried everything I could to try and get the pins to pop out while holding the handle. Nope. Not happening. I tried for quite a bit too doing every excercise I can think of. While holding the rails I had to actually use my palm and press on purpose to pop them out. Just don't hold the rails, as the say not to anyway. As for the weight transfer I am no physics major either but what you described is what I am talking about. While pressing with 125lb inclines yesterday you can feel the shift in weight on your wrist while pressing. This doesn't happen with my Reppins. I have both dumbbells now as I am holding onto my ironmasters until I get used to the Reppins. Another thing to be aware of is the roller screw on the ironmasters will get looser over time. When using heavy weight the plates will come loose while using the dumbbells with heavy weight. They will not come off as it's a screw pin but more of an annoyance. As far as size goes the Reppins are about the same size or smaller than a gym dumbbell of the same weight. The ironmasters are about the same size in length. The Reppins are just 18.3 inches long at 120 and the ironmasters are 18.5 at 120lb. So the Reppins are a hair shorter. About the same. The Reppins are also 18.3 at 125lb. Having used both I think in my opinion I see the Reppins in your future. You will see what I mean when using the ironmasters day to day. 😄 Appreciate the comment and the videos. You actually saved me thousands in unnessary gym equipment. You and Coop. Thank you!
