These homeless DO NOT want help they want to continue to use drugs, drink, break the law, etc. They don't want to go to shelters because they cannot use drugs and they do not want to follow shelter rules. These homeless make the people who have actually fallen on to hard times look bad. The people who actually want to get off the street are overlooked because the majority of the homeless are drug users and law breakers.

I have a lot of opinions about this, but I will just say that transitional housing would greatly decrease the homeless rate. you can't decrease homelessness by telling them that they can put their tent somewhere. Ive seen this is Anaheim 'tent city' a lot of violence and police don't care. how can someone be expected to thrive at life when they are always in survival mode. They eventually had to get rid of the tent city on the riverbed because it was the cause of a lot of fires, violence, and also many people went missing and a lot of deaths and murders as well. very poor policing in places like this.

Jerry Brown is the problem! He's not my Gov. Ten years ago Glenn Menidias and his father came up with a plan that after start up cost of 3-5 million that could have been gotten in federal grants thru cities like Orange ,CA. To purchase fixer uppers to flip and house good people down on their luck but willing to work hard and change lives and families with up to 20 - 40 house's per year being fixed, sold & profits put into reinvestment of the program. Glenn's father died trying to get this very important project off the ground but was fought by the people in charge. Most money for homeless programs gets spent on administration not the homeless. Sad but true. Glenn is MIA he fears for his life and for good reason.

You need to vote. Nothing like tossing people out of office and putting people who actually represent your views in to get the attention of politicians. Some of these homeless may be normal people on hardtimes. How are they going to get to jobs and services? Most of them will be seasonal bums, drunks, addicts, illegals, and mentally ill. Hi . No I am not virtuous. You asked a question, and I provided an answer. Yes. I am defeated economically here in California, and am of the many poor that's here. I can only be responsible for myself and the people in my home that I should be responsible for. I am helping a small family, because they were sleeping in their car, and the child is a friend to my 2nd. grade daughter. I wanted to help. A young woman needed a place to stay in order to finish dental assisting courses. I decided to help her as well. That is why I said that homelessness is a community problem... I will research these politicians before voting in the up and coming elections, but I don't see any relief for the poor. we just need to continually support each other as best that we can. Personally I'm holding on tight to my mental and physical health, and keeping it to moving, fast forward humbley as I can Prayers, and Blessings to you. And no I do not live in a gated community. Just a house on the edge of town, which I am truly grateful for. As I wouldn't be able to help in the capacity to which I am to anyone. The solution is to simply build small clean, block wall apartments and have HUD fund them . We are always going to have people in ANY society that are incapable of working, feeding and caring for themselves and it is our duty as a nation that is suppose to have good Christian values to provide for them. Not judge them but see to it their simple basic needs like shelter are met.It is far better to take this action than to herd them from place to place or let them live out their days on a sidewalk with no bathroom facilities or a warm place to sleep.We need to set our judgements aside and do what is needed and do what is right.

What if they have no credit, No money,no car,no references, A criminal record{even minor offense}No first and last, no place to clean up or restroom,no computer access{a must have in todays employment market} credit references and ability to pass a background test,no food or water too keep healthy enough for a days work, have mental and physical disability.There is more to it that meets your eye.The idea was not "free" housing but low income housing for those with disability and health issues, most of these people fall into the above category.We are talking about clean small basic housing.

chris. You pay for it twice as much by letting them live out their lives on the sidewalk and having the police herd them from place to place. It's far cheaper building small affordable apartments and subsidize it with HUD funding and contributions from their Social security disability checks. Far cheaper..It is the only solution. I agree poorer cities shouldn't export homeless ppl to another like you. What I am saying is, Irvine themselves are also exporting their own homelessness and sweeping the problems of poverty under the rug, in ways and excuses you say, privately owned, better city and smarter ppl. As long as places don't invest in programs or facilities that can handle such minor issues of sudden cost rises, or inability to house the poor, it'll always suffer from homelessness.
