IS A CHEAP BATTERY CHAINSAW ANY GOOD?

Can a sub £100 battery chainsaw actually be any good at all? I have a first look at a Katsu, which uses twin Makita battery's. how does it stack up to a Dewalt Flexvolt? How do they compare to a petrol saw?

A great video thanks George. Ive had my makita battery saw 5-6 years. I can get it out the shed and it always works straight away. One benifit of battery tools is no noise. When we had a job cutting some trees down in a town. we could start 7am as the saw makes no noise

From what I know from my neighbour and their endeavours with a cheap battery chainsaw, great for cutting back well overgrown hedges and small tree limbs. And it was cheaper than getting someone in to chop them back or buy a big brand only to use it once every few years

I have a Stanley Fatmax battery chain saw, it runs off the Stanley Fatmax V2 18 volt batteries. It’s small at 14 inch but it can run a larger bar, it’s compatible with the Oregon chain & bars that are on my other petrol saws. I love the simplicity of the Stanley, it’s light, tool-less bar tensioning, very powerful & it goes for ages on a 4ah battery.

Petrol/gas saws are great if they're used regularly but if they're left for any length of time they can be a B'stard to start. But if you're only using a saw occasionally the battery ones are great. For somebody doing a bit of fire wood for their home , battery saw all day long.

I've got the big 36v Makita saw, it's great but really to make it really good for cutting anything big, you have to use 5ah batteries as a minimum, probably 6ah batteries, which are very expensive! It's a good saw, but I am contemplating buying a petrol machine to go alongside it, probably an Echo as heard good reviews about them

I bought a spear and Jackson 2 stroke about 15 years ago, 6 pulls with the choke on and 2 with it off, and it fires every time, only ever replaced the chains, £150 well spent. I've got an oragon electric 16' for logging at home, 80 quid from bandq several years ago, had new chains and bushes, but again a bargain, ideal for logging in the back garden!

Great video as always. Interesting to see the comparison between saws. Don't call me out, but that Katsu is a bit dodgy not having a chain brake ( in case of kick back) especially for inexperienced people. Have a good week. Looks like its getting drier now.👍🏻🚜

Evening squire... hope your keeping well.. iv run 😅 a bosch electric chainsaw for numerous years yip.. the attached by a cord type 😅 flippin brilliant 15 years and one plastic drive gear replacement but just the usual bar/chain changes... excellent of of a generator to which is always hand to have about.... im just cautious about having loads of different batterys kicking about and not using them properly and killing the battrys lifes in the neglect. But i see there place to. Cracking work on the comparison vid.. stay safe 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

I dont know why they put such long bars on these battery saws, drags the power down, put a 14 inch on and see the difference, i had a go with a Stihl battery saw with a 14 inch bar, lasted ages on one battery, probably did 60/80 cuts in 3 inch wood and logged a 8 inch limb up into logs , was 10 foot long or so, will be interesting to see how the Katsu and Dewalt go on one charge

On the contrary George, we were talking about a cheap battery saw next to the chipper as we were running stihl 461 saws on the ground. Still won’t get me away from petrol though 😆. And forget to pick the bar nose up when you tension your chain 😬

Word of warning George be careful with that Katsu saw and the Makita batteries as there is no protection on the Katsu stuff so it will fully drain them and then they wont charge again, so keep an eye on how flat they are getting and take them off before they completely go. Also its a 36 volt saw and not 18 volt
