I was very lucky to score an unused ex display eco86a from a fantastic small Scottish business near Inverness back in 2021 by sheer chance, well after their discontinuation. They even held onto it for me for a whole month before I could even pay for it, for shipping straight to London! I still have yet to have it installed, but with these crazy energy bills, I'm sure as heck looking forward to.

Condenser and heat pump dryers are so slow and don’t dry the clothes fully, I am clinging on to my eco83a until the poor thing packs in. I can’t believe how cheap gas was only 1yr ago 😢

I have found this dryer to be pretty good. If you use the driest setting it comes out dry. It is still more expensive than gas. But at the wattage that the heat pump runs I can power it with my solar panels. So it’s free. Gas is still pretty cheap compared to electric.

Really can't understand why no gas tumble dryers now available in UK, when so much better, especially re cost and speed.. My whirlpool gas tumble dryer needs a replacement timer unit, but it's discontinued and probably need to chick it out.

I agree, I think there is a move to make gas generally obsolete in the UK and move everyone over to elec for heating, with heat pumps. Can't see there being enough power available yet. I got a heat pump dryer last week. so I am interested to see how it performs, slower seems to be the rule!

One big upside of gas drying: it's significantly faster.

The old Whirlpool/Kenmore gas dryers made many years ago in the 1950’s and up until the mid 1960’s had a 37,000 btu burner in them which provided VERY fast drying times, literally could get laundry dried just as fast as you could get washed since it took 30 to 35 minutes at most to get a load of laundry dried in those older Whirlpool/Kenmore gas dryers. There were even 8500 to 9000 watt 50 amp models what were equally as fast as well.

Can you still buy gas dryers in uk, cant seem to find any

With the current gas price in the Netherlands it’s cheaper to run an electric dryer🥲 Especially a heatpump one

On my tariff gas is about 3p/kWh and elec about 14p. I guess it all depends on where you are and what you pay. I know that both rates are set to go up in the U.K.

I believe there is now green gas available in the UK from biomass digesters but of course it's all mixed up in the pipelines. There are not enough bio digester plants to supply the UK and not enough biomass for the insatiable demand. Most people would only consider the cost but as you say if you have enough solar panels the electric heat on a sunny day is more sustainable.You do how ever need to have a long term view. Cheers

I saw “green” gas in a patio gas bottle in Ireland this week. Somewhat oxymoronic!

Interesting challenge. Just out of curiosity did you plumb it into the gas supply yourself, and then get your gas man to check for joint integrity issues/ leaks etc? Only way to accurately allow for the small amount of electricity the dryer will use would be to have a plug in energy meter on the plug side too and record the exact usage. 👍🏻
@bootsowen14 күн бұрын
You get a gas plumber to fit a micro point fitting. Then you can plug in a tumble as you like same way as a cooker.
@bootsowen14 күн бұрын
I have one of those plugs now. But I haven’t updated the video. The price of gas has changed too.

Miele does it in a very fancy way with conducting tracks on the outside of the drum and carbon brushes. I think this machine works on temperature.
