Air Asia has been crowned “World’s Best Low-Cost Airline” for the 14th time in a row in 2023. So, are they really that good according to low-cost standards? In this Air Asia review, I take a flight on their Airbus A320 from Bangkok - Don Mueang to Vientiane, Laos, and showcase every part of the experience.

I have flown on Air Asia dozens of times over the last 12 years. I have been mostly happy with the experience. The crews have always been friendly and polite. Don't fly budget and expect full service. No airline is perfect so if you are willing to sacrifice a few luxuries to save on airfares then they are definitely worth your consideration.

No delays and cancellations at all? Thats one of my only concerns 😢

There's not an airline on the planet that doesn't have delays or cancellations however I have only had one engine issue where the plane had to return to the Airport and they put me on a flight next morning. Other delays / rescheduled number maybe five or six and that is over ten years and about 100 to 120 flights. Cheers.

Great review! I have flown Air Asia several times, and it was always punctual and cheap. I fully agree, it isn't a great airline for long flights but on shorter journeys, it works well.

Indeed. It's long haul subsidiary has largely failed. Remember when it came to Europe AirAsiaX had to retreat in 2012 because it couldn't compete on price, let alone service and scheduling with the Gulfies.

Yes, they also had flights to Honolulu which didn't survive the Pandemic. They might try to compete with Scoot in the future but for now, I think they'll focus on what they do best.

@@JackRoamingBack in 2012 the then marketing boss said the "sweet spot" for an airline was a sector length of around eight hours. AirAsiaX has talked several times about returning to Europe (the last time it planned a routing with a stop in Dubai) but nothing happened.

AirAsia has resume almost 70% of its aircraft post pandemic while the remaining are still under maintenance. It is expected to resume its remaining delivery of a320neo and a321neo by this year. Also 2 or 3 A330neo will also be delivered this year. World Best Low Cost Airline for 14years to be exact

I have flown with Air Asia before during my backpacking in Malaysia. I flew on mulitple destinations and they were never late. Only one time I had a problem with check in and that was because their solo check in machine was broken. I am 1.93 cm and one time the flight attendant even looked at me up and down and just said, "No you are sitting at the wing for extra leg room", I was super happy and we didnt pay extra or anything for that service. All the encounters with Air Asia for me personally is only positive untill im proven wrong!

Thanks for the objective review. With low-cost airlines the "best" ought to be considered in terms of punctuality and network coverage. Onboard standards are minimal with all LCCs. Indeed the most successful of the LCCs are those with the lowest operating costs ... and here I refer to Ryanair. Yes ... many people complain about Ryanair but the boss doesn't mind. MOL knows that more travellers will choose Ryanair because of its punctuality and safely and extensive network.

I wish I could have had a good experience like the rest of you. For me every time I've ever flown with them they are extremely rude especially at the ticket counters.

2:00, Nice. I flew Airasia before, June of 2016 from Kuala Lumpur to Manila on AirAsia Philippines, July of 2022 from Manila to Kuala Lumpur on Airasia Malaysia and Last July from Phuket to Kuala Lumpur also on Airasia Malaysia, all 3 flights is good and okay, nothing happen on my flight, but it's missing USB and universal power outlet. Airasia is okay, but not the best when it comes with missing USB and universal ower outlet. But Cebu Pacific is the best and you should try it soon when you visit Philippines.

Okay good luck. But I flew Cebu Pacific in July of 2016 and July of 2022 and June of 2017 and 2019 from Manila to Kuala Lumpur and from Kuala Lumpur to Malaysia, my 3 flights departed on time, but 1 is the 2 to 3 hour delay because it flew from the previous flight that is delayed, but still my 4 flights are good, okay and it's the best because it's cheap.

Saudis Airlines is now my favorite. Nothing against AirAsia, but price for service was better with Saudia Airlines.

They sent a purchase receipt with random Chinese names for the passengers. Can't contact anyone there to correct the names. Can you still fly internationally with this receipt???

2:53 - Litte note! Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) is not a part of Bangkok. It's so far outa city, that this airport is actually located in the next Province "Samut Prakan". But there is a fast connection (Airport Rail Link) to Bangkok's Skytrain / rail system.
