5:20 unreal tournament for ps1 had same controls

Resurrection the game is so underrated. It's super atmospheric especially for a PS1 game. When I was first walking through the corridors, I was astounded at all the visual effects with the smoke and the electricity and the flashing lights and the dripping water, and it's amazing how modern the controls are like you said. I hope someday you decide to make more videos cuz this is some pretty good content to my dude

The original Medal of Honor is the only game I know on Playstation that could use dual analogue sticks with "the modern standard layout" before Alien Resurrection Love the channel, hope you upload again
@leadlefthand4 ай бұрын
05:00 - Fun fact: the first Medal of Honor game had a control option to use dual analog sticks. But because there were no crosshairs, you had to rely on the bullet trails if you intended to run and gun COD style. Or you could just tape a makeshift red dot on your TV to know where the crosshair should be at all times. Medal of Honor underground has the crosshair option so that feels even more like a modern fps game on the PS1.

Resurrection movie was a lot of fun. I was laughing while watching it. And I think it's ok for films to be different from one another.

It's honestly what I love about the first 4 Alien movies. They all feel distinct and unique within their series. It's refreshing from those where every movie feels like the same thing over again.

Hey, dunno if you'e aware of this, but the original version of the PS1 Alien Resseurection, when it was a third person shooter was leaked online a few months ago. Thought you might get a kick out of it, especially if you ever want to do a follow up :)

Funny thing - The controller setup was reviled by the reviewers at the time as being horrible and hard to control. Funny how a few years later when Halo came out it was celebrated as 'revolutionary' and set the gold standard on how to make an FPS work on consoles.

im a huge fan of both games ^^ resurrection was actually my first experience with alien series never saw the films or heard of them i got it cause i heavily into FPS games and remember the first time i saw a facehugger scaring me shitless xD but yeah honestly i love both games but i do agree that resurrection has alot of balancing issues x.x and is very trial and error and with its far away saves i fully get why people get put off with it honestly to get the best experience with that game is to run on pc get that 60fps patch and get it to run with keybored and mouse and with save States you are in for a much muuch better time but yeah awesome video always love to see people talk about resurrection x3 dont see many people talk on it and always love to see peoples thoughts on it ^-^ is a game that i have alot of love for and always enjoy hearing others thoughts on it etc :) alien trilogy is awesome to

12:58 yikes that is one awful gun firing sound effect. It sounds like headache inducing factory machinery. 19:22 this is the moment I realized why you were sounding extra snarky in this review. I had a feeling Resurrection would break you.
@Vakantscull2 жыл бұрын
yeah, the pulse rifle and smart gun sounds are often labelled iconic, and when confined to the second movie theyre great, but when it comes to the games they get irritating FAST! And yes, Resurrection did finally topple me, despite my intention to clear it legit.

I know people have already probably said it a million times but I think it's so hilarious that this game was panned for its clunky controls, but nowadays this is basically almost exactly how Shooters are played

I would definitely recommend everybody at least emulate Resurrection just to see the crazy ambiance. I didn't know atmosphere like that was possible in a PS1 game in a PS1 game

Played alien resurrection as a 6 - 7 year old kid and got stuck on the evacuation level. 20 years later i tried it again (normal mode with infinite saves). It was hard as nails but managed to beat the game without cheats and being blindly upon when i would get ammo. All levels were nicely designed (besides the cheap deathtraps) and most area's were really fun. However it takes alot of trial and error. Also at a certain point as you play the game for the first time, you will end up with no ammo or low ammo and are forced to find ways to kill all enemies with a pistol while running backwards in levels to have enough space and time to shoot and don't get hit, and still kill them so you can progress. And if that succeeds you can go back and save that progression when possible. This strategy and saving the game in 3 different memory spaces is what took me to beat the game. If i didnt had multiple save files with less ammo spend, then restarting the whole game would be nessecary because some areas or levels require enough ammo, where the run away backwards and shoot with pistol strategy just can't work. It shouldnt be this hard to beat a game. However making a little progress, beating a level and getting just a bit further than you ever did, is immensly satisfying feeling you can have with a challanging game. And in that this game beats all others.

There is actually one simple solution the developers could of made to Alien Resurrection that would have helped balance the difficulty and that is Auto Regeneration at least for Ripley in her levels since she has alien dna mixed in. If that featured was incorporated it would of helped in progress the game so much. like say you survive one room full of enemies you wait a while to regenerate and than progress, this game would of felt slower but you would of at least been able to slowly but surely progress. If they ever decide to remake or remaster it, they should def add that feature, it would improve gameplay tremendously.

Don't compare anything you make to digital foundry, they sure can analyze technology, but that's about all they can do without going full corporate propaganda mode with their opinions and suggestions. Great video as always, I'm binging your channel a little.

Brilliant video 👍 I remember seeing a trailer for the Alien Resurrection game on the Aliens VHS re-release, there it was a third person shooter. I only picked it up recently and for a PS1 game is quite an achievement although balls hard!

Never played any of these games yet, but I love how the control layout in Alien Resurrection would become what most modern fps games use today, really only revolutionised by Halo 1. Funny how IGN shat of this control layout back then, lol.

You mentioned Alien Trilogy giving you enough firepower to deal with what it throws at you, did you find you relied on the bonus rooms to have enough ammo? I found myself running out until I restarted the playthrough and focused more on bonuses levels and secrets.
@Vakantscull2 жыл бұрын
AH! I knew I forgot to mention something! when Aliens go into their pain state, they're actually invincible for a short while, so it's actually best to fire in bursts. so fire, wait for them to recover, then fire again. Sorry, I completely forgot about that when writing the script :(

Great video! I will say though that your comment about alien: isolation bugs me, as it is far from a “haunted house” walking simulator. There’s a bunch of survival horror elements like weapons, tools, other enemies that drain your ammo, and plenty of resource management, as well as the freedom to do any encounter in the way you see fit. The alien itself is pretty in line with the unstoppable antagonists like Mr. X. It’s more resident evil VII than outlast

Finally played Resurrection for the first time, you nailed my thoughts on it completely. Although I gave up when I reached Distephano’s stage. It has that European BS game design with unfair enemy placement and high HP that depletes ammo. The final straw for me is that the game allows you to save nearby hostiles (Hmm I wonder when they fixed that ;)) So it was a death loop over and over. It’s such a shame because the whole presentation and effort that went into the game is a 10/10 but I have to give it a 6.

Good production. Earned a sub. On the human enemies in Resurrection, I noticed your aim is awful, which contributes greatly to the difficulty. The game is compatible with the PS1 mouse. I was able to finish the game without cheating using that. I strongly recommend giving that a try. Definitely feels like the game was tuned for it. Still hard as nails, but removes a lot of the cheapness.

played both of these one after another, using emulation to get the best experience, two very different but good games for the time. trilogy is really fun and well paced but the repetitive boss fights and maze like levels of the 90s with hidden doors and surprise elevators does get annoying but it's just a product of its time and music slaps. resurrection is very impressive and atmospheric with pretty good controls for the time but not being able to run when everyone else can move super fast, the marines, too many face huggers and brutal "easy" difficulty does test your patience at times. i find it odd that it wasn't voiced either, apart from the one marine encounter...and yes, i cheated to replenish health and ammo when things got ridicules...i'm not wasting my sanity on beating a 24 yo game that clearly wasn't meant to be finished lol yeah i wouldn't recommend playing resurrection unless you really have to. skip it and play medal of honor instead, one of my all time favorite ps1 fps games and is the game that kicked off the wwii trend seen in the 2000s - ps i never watched any the alien movies...

alien trilogy has a great atmosphere and music/sound fx. its too repetitive though, and the boss fights were also not very inspiring. resurrection is more on the survival horror side, but very hard and the levels are too dark. for their time, great games though.

these games make my poop stand on the edge of the hole waiting to release after a alien appears, 🤣man these are where horrors need to learn that the atmosphere makes the eventual jump scare even more better, but saying that I probably won't be playing games like this anymore I am so unhealthy I think one more jump scare will give me a heart attack
