A Baldurs Gate 3 review.. of sorts? In this video I'm talking about what Baldur's Gate 3 doesn differently, why it pulled me in, what you could expect from Baldur's Gate 3, and I aim to answer a common question I've heard: is Baldur's Gate 3 worth it? And is it good for a Dungeons and Dragons noob? Something, finally, that I'm qualified to talk about I guess. From discussing what is Baldur's Gate 3, to why it offers such a rich, story driven, open-world RPG experience (with strategic combat in there too!). Finally, we'll turn to the downsides of a massive DnD world and how Larian Studios tackles them (if they do). BG3 is out now on PC, and is coming to PS5 in September, something that will surely bring even more people into its fold! Thanks for watching! #baldursgate3 #gaming

Something I think is really special about this game is you can see in comment sections that's it's drawn in so many different types of people. From complete newbies to people who have extensive experience with CRPGs as well as D&D. Really special games, music and film can do that. Break past genre barriers and BG3 is yet another incredible example (nod to Elden Ring) of what can be produced by a passionate team, who are allowed to do what they really love. No monetisation, no battle pass, no in game shop... You buy the game and you have hundreds, if not thousands of hours of content all packaged in. As someone who couldn't get 2 minutes into a CRPG without uninstalling, it's reeled me massively. I put 200 hours into early access and am just absolutely in love with the game. I'm honestly the complete opposite of what this game should appeal to. Hate role play, don't follow narratives or ever really get bothered by characters, I'm not into immersion and I haaaate turn based combat. I can't do the game justice in a comment but your video went some way to doing so! If anybody even reads this and is on the fence, please leave your prejudices at the door 😂. Sure, some people will really not like this game but I think a lot of people who assume they won't would actually end up loving it.

@@FSVR54 if you've other games you'll play on it then absolutely go for it. There are very few games I'd go along with someone buying a console in order to play. Elden Ring is one, BG3 is another. If people are still playing Skyrim because of mods, this game will be played for the next ten years easily. They're going to go absolutely nuts with this and with Larian saying they'll support mods, people are going to make entire expansions.

the word follows quickly. normally i wouldn't by myself pick up a game with turn based combat, but from what i gather, people are giving it a very high praise as an RPG, so might aswell give it a try. there have been many instances when the "marketing" is trying hard to say it's good when it's really mediocre to shit. but this one feels genuine.

@@ralftammiste4574 it's honestly brilliant. Last night I was laughing and gasping at my monitor and honestly if you knew me you'd know that just doesn't happen. I don't get "immersed", I can still enjoy games but typically it's because the mechanics are engaging. This game has about 4/5 significant things that mean I shouldn't like it. Turn based, d&d, very narrative driven, isometric, leans into role play very heavily. And yet I can already say its in my top few offline games ever and by the time I'm done I fully expect it will be my favourite 'non mmo' ever.

As someone who has played D&D since the 1980's, I can honestly say that 5e is the most accessible D&D rule-set that WotC have ever put out.....yet this hasn't been at the cost of mechanical depth-which you'd think would be a contradiction.

As for the fast travel, I have never been a fan of it in any game with a nice world, and BG3 is one of them. It diminishes the feeling or scale, the feeling of relief when getting to a camp, the tension when trying to get from one place to another through dangerous areas... But I also see use in it, especially in a game where you already spend a lot of time walking and talking, where companions like to bumble into stuff needlessly, where a single mistake can wipe out a good while of progress if you forgot to save etc...

I really enjoy fast travel in Kingdom come. You can fast travel form anywhere, but only to settlements and there are random events, such as ambush, stranger on the road etc. It is for me best fast travel in videogames

So I have been disappointed with the wizard class ever since I started my 200 hours of beta a few years back. Then I tried divination and WHOA! 😱 That stuff goes deep and now I wonder how far I can go into manipulating "reality" and what some of the other magic schools have to offer.

I have a question I can’t seem to find the answer to. Co-op gameplay is up to 4 ppl. If I get a party of 4 friends, do we all get to create custom characters? If we all make custom characters, do we miss out on getting to know the various characters in the game?

If it's like Divinity 2, then yeah everyone can make custom char to your liking. If one party member wants to play an origin char he can also while the other 3 are custom. each playthrough and each char will have a diff experience playing the game. That's the beauty of these games.

You CAN all create custom characters. One person needs to ‘create’ the game and then invite their friends before kicking off the game. The save file stays on the persons machine that created the game

It's only $60. The $70 version is if you upgrade to deluxe, which you don't have to do. I don't know what your financial situation is but if you do buy games, let this be the one you actually spend money on. Larian studios isn't engaging in any loot boxes, incomplete launches, DLC on day one or any other nefarious cash grab the other triple A titles have become known for. I think rewarding developers like Larian may set the tone for other gaming studios to follow their example. That's if you got the money to spare.

True, there is a lot of hype. But the early access has been available for a few years. I realise many are just jumping in now but there have been plenty of videos and play throughs on youtube to judge the game fairly. It should hold up unless people are idiots and just jumping in with zero attempt to research the game. Personally, I never played D&D and really enjoying the game so far. This is nowhere near as slow and complicated as one would think of with D&D. A lot of it is calculated very quickly with enough visibility to the system that a D&D newb can follow and get into.
