I've seen them 3 times and and I agree 1000%. I'm an old fart who has been following rock since late 1950's and they are without a doubt a real throwback to those great days of rock from the early 60's through the end of the 1970's, especially the dead-stop endings, which very few bands do today. And the other thing that is a throwback is their instrumentals, which were a staple of early 1960's rock and then little-by-little they disappeared. A lot of bands back then started their sets with an instrumental. They are the best on the planet right now.

@@mikeat2637 It is sometimes said that ``Rock was born in America, grew in England, and was perfected in Japan.'' There are many wonderful groups in Japan that are world-class and are still active today. Bandmaid, Love Bites, Nemophila, and many others. A typical male group is One OK Rock. Another unique group is YOASOBI, which has recently been in the spotlight around the world. Please check it out and have a look.

We got lucky in the Charlotte Okyu-ji and got “Freedom!” Completely leveled up in a live setting. Band Maid often outperforms studio tracks and this is no exception. Akane’s disco beat during the chorus adds that extra layer of fun to this song. But her drum solo segment wasn’t included 😢 I really hope you get to see them live on their next world tour. Let nothing stand in your way. We are incredibly lucky to be living during the Maids’ rise to World Domination. They may be too big for the small clubs; however, they do enjoy the intimacy of it; perhaps they will hit a few small venues on their journey 🍀

You HAVE to check out their acoustic live versions of Puzzle and Anemone (both sung back to back) from their concert in Zepp, Tokyo way back in 2018. Stripped down versions of the original songs with Saiki just being accompanied by Kanami on acoustic guitar. I believe you've already reviewed the live full version of Puzzle several months back. Perhaps follow up with a listen of the MV version of Anemone to get a sense of the song. THEN, thereafter, react to the said 2018 Zepp Tokyo songs mentioned above. You won't regret it.

The one thing that has always separated Band Maid from the rest of the groups as far as I'm concerned is the songwriting. They're excellent musicians but the song structures and arrangements are excellent. Other bands are good but Band Maid for me is like a cross between the Beatles, Queen and Led Zeppelin all rolled into one to create a hybrid entity. There's not other group like them. I'm 72, my father had a Master's Degree in music and my mother a Batchelor's (only because she didn't take her final boards) and I grew up with Classical and Dixieland Jazz and all kinds of rock and prog rock over the years and Band Maid is the first group since Yes that has fired me up to the levels of enjoyment I feel now listening to them. Yes, I've played a number of traditional instruments as has every member of my family. I can really empathize with the music and yes, they're tremendous live. I have all their albums and videos too except for the acoustic set that I missed out on and am still cursing myself over.

The song was Thrill, and of course from Band Maid, I'm not lying when I say it changed my life, I once again felt hope musically, since that time I have consumed everything that I could that's Band Maid, it's because of them that I listen to Japanese rock/metal ladies exclusively now, many you have highlighted on your channel, I had the ultimate pleasure of seeing them live on Aug 11th 2023, the first live show I had seen in over 25 years, and yes they are even better live than imaginable, I've seen everything related to rock thru out my 63 years, and they are at the very top number one spot, if the chance is ever afforded me to see them again, I will endure the extreme physical pain once again and be there, if you have the chance, you must also treat yourself to the greatest show on earth.

Thank you for your reaction. Freedom is not a song that I return to that often but I enjoy it every time I do. This live video is something special though, like pure happiness condensed right out of the air and flowing from the scene. Are they really better live? I assume here that in concerns KZbin material, being at a real live show is always something else. Live they have the chance to add more good stuff to the music, like with this performance. When it comes to production it is, in my layman view, a little back and forth between live and studio as well as video. I think of Band Maid studio work as sometimes, far from always, slightly over produced and that the balance between the instruments, in some cases, are not always fully serving the idea of the composition. For example I find the baseline in Manners much more clear in the online live than on the MV, I still love the MV but when I could compare the two I rather think of the online live as how it should sound. However, the sound from some live videos are not always the best either. So I don't think everything available is better live, some songs are not available live, with good quality, and sometimes the production isn't better, it depends on which case. When it comes to MVs like Blooming, Warning, Afterlife or Influencer just to mention a few; they certainly have an artistic value as such beside the music. Have fun! :)

There is no question in anyone's minds that Band Maid is a dish best served LIVE !!!!! Their live shows are just not shows, they are the total experience of Band Maid. Freedom is one of my favorite songs of theirs, especially the drum solo. It is the best structured drum solo written into the body of the song specifically that I have ever seen. Akane's sheer joy is so evident on her face that it pumps you up even more. And the way the drum solo seamlessly melds into the next section is exquisite and shows how well the group works together. And to top it all, Akane also acts as the bandleader, keeping everyone on time. I know her nickname is Gorilla, and is well deserved, but in my mind she is the High Priestess of the Temple of the Perfect Fill, lol. And when I watch this drum solo, I am struck by how much she makes me think of videos I've seen of Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich, two legendary drummers who share billing at the top of the list. I was lucky enough to see Buddy Rich play with Doc Sevrinsen's Band almost 60 years ago and the resemblance in style is uncanny. Keep up the great reactions !!! The ladies love to have fun with this song, they can probably play it with their eyes closed. One fun fact is that in the previous concert Miku got her lines wrong and in this clip Kanami kneels down in front of the prompter blocking the lyrics from Miku's view lol ! In one of their covid online streams they used this song to go off stage and walk around the crew. It certainly is their fun song and what a great drum solo and transition to the guitar solo, it's sounds simple but it is so effective. Thanks Bob !

True, but there is no prompter behind Kanami (it wouldn't be any use there anyway, how would she read it?). Kanami was just sitting on the stage riser mocking Miku. Miku doesn't use a prompter for lyrics as such, but she often has am i-pad on her mic stand for the setlist tunings and for when she needs to speak in English.

@@Davey-Boyd If I remember the translation of the commentary by the Ladies for this concert, Miku said Kanami sat on her monitor wedge she uses for hearing her direct vocals in addition to her IEM's. During Akane's solo Miku and Kanami both sat on the wedge while they cheered Akane on. But Miku couldn't hear her vocal mix because Kanami was blocking it.

@@greylocke100 That makes sense, I thought she was sat on the stage riser. I forgot about monitor wedges entirely as they now use in ear monitors ('on ear' for Saiki though). Cheers!

@@Davey-Boyd Even with IEM's they still use Wedges for vocals. At least Saiki and Miku do. I don't see wedges by Kanami or MISA, but Miku and Saiki always have at least 1 wedge by them. Saiki in particular likes to put her foot on them.

This concert was, as a whole, great. The only downside, as this has been mentioned by many, is that Kanami should have been louder in the post-production videos. Akane has an electric fan beside her which isn’t surprising at all. It makes her hair stick out but I like to think that she’s putting out so much energy she creates her own static field! 😅 When Miku is singing her solo part Kanami is kneeling and smiling at her. From what I’ve heard about a previous concert Miku messed up the lyrics so Kanami was giving her a nod of approval here. 😊 Misa does so many cool lines in this song but then again, she always does. One other thing about her is the way her rig is set up even when she plays up on the fretboard she has a full tone. One thing I’d like to add Bob, is that you take time to respond to comments here on YT and it is greatly appreciated. What I’ve witnessed is that more and more channels stop doing it when they start up Discord, Patreon, or other social media platforms. I don’t have the mental energy to follow so many other platforms and I live on a fixed income so donating is just a reality for me. So thank you! 🙏 Hope you’ll get a chance to check on the newly put together super-group East Of Eden.

Band-Maid is great in both respects. Their studio recordings are just as great as their LIVE performances .... IMHO. Please don't make it a competition as your title implies .

In my humble opinion, I think the reason why their live performances are often said to be better than studio recordings is because they usually perform lives after studio recordings. Even after a song is written, they try to improve it each time they play it, so newer performances are always better. On the other hand, live performances are literally realistic, but the recording conditions are not perfect, as the venue and mixing conditions can vary, and there are some mistakes and problems, and the sound may not be as crisp as it should be. However, for listeners, they often improve enough to overcome this, so live performances are often better, and if the imperfections of a live recording cannot be compensated for, then a studio recording would be better, I think.

@@npmushead6543 I get what you're saying, as so many say the same thing. What I don't get is why is it a competition at all. It's Band-Maid so what does it matter studio or LIVE.

@@_JimS I see, I've always felt a little disappointed that some people have decided that BAND-MAID's live performances are better than MVs even before listening to them....I didn't notice there were comments similar to mine 😅 I know that people have different tastes and perspectives, and they are just saying which one they like better, so I understand that perspective makes them want to compete. (It's like which song is your favorite = there is no correct answer) In my case, each version has its good points (= things I like), and I try to get something out of both😁

Great one as usually. One of the happiest songs there is. Akane's smile😍🥲 Why not try some acoustics? Like Sayonakidori. Or a "White Room" video: Whitout Holding Back
