Is Being a Virgin Before Marriage Still Important to Filipinas?

I thinks this depends on which way you look at it, from a religious or human stand point. Since the Philippines is said to be a religious country, and the Bible does say a woman is to be a virgin until marriage (Hebrews 13:41 Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the MARRIAGE BED BE UNDEFILED, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous). Although I think many just "claim" to be religious because that's what society expects, but they only follow the morals and values set in the Bible when it benefits them. If they were truly religious there wouldn't be so much lying (Even to "save face"), stealing (Skin tax is lying and stealing: lying about the price making it higher which is then stealing money with the higher price), adulterers, and single mothers. There also wouldn't be Bahala Na (Whatever happens, happens) because the Bible says people are to WORK for what they want, not just sit around and wait for it to happen (Proverbs 13:4 The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied; 2 Thessalonians 3:10 For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat.) I don't care if someone is religious or not, just don't "claim" to be when your actions PROVE you are not. Religion isn't Build-A-Bear, you don't get to pick which parts you follow and don't, it's ALL or nothing. Along the lines of religion, I think an interesting interview question would be "Who would a Filipina prioritize, her family or her husband?" From a human (my) point of view, being a virgin is not a requirement, but a LOW body count is. If she's been promiscuous and giving of herself so easily in the past, why would I believe she will stop in the future. There would be no trust she would be loyal and faithful, and without TRUST, you have nothing. This also depends on each person, everyone will have their own standards. NBSB doesn't mean much, just because she hasn't had a boyfriend, doesn't mean she hasn't been with a guy.

The thing is, if you are religious, you should also know that humans are flawed. Otherwise, why did Jesus die on the cross? It was for your sins. Why do even the most religious people repent? Because people make mistakes. We are not perfect because we are not God. The culture and environment people grow up in generally sets the president for their personality and their actions. One can be religious but at the same time, environment is a hard influence. Also, there is a vid from The Filipina Pea in which she asked 3 Filipina that very question "Who would they prioritize, their family or their husband?". 2 of them said family and the other said her husband in which The Filipina Pea quoted a bible verse “Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh”. Then the two Filipina sat there thinking about it then changed their minds and said they would prioritise their husband 🤣🤣. I agree with your view about the virgin requirement but let me ask... if the girl loses her virginity, how sure can you be that she has a low body count? Especially when Filipina don't like disclosing past relationships, almost a taboo. In a perfect world I would love to trust but this is the real world. As a man, I've seen enough, heard enough and been through enough. We have been shaped by our environment that we have learnt trust almost always heads to betrayal. What can be more real if it is seen than just taking a leap of faith with mere words?

I don't disagree with your first point. But from a human evolutionary psychological/biological point of view virginity definitely matters as her strongest pair bond is to her first mate. A womans ability to pair bond to a man is like how a piece of tape sticks to a wall. The first time the tape sticks it is very strong, then each time after that the bond weakens until the tape is no longer able to attach to the wall. For men, pair bonding comes from our unconditional love to protect and provide for our mate. Why men prefer virgins is because it ensures paternity. Millions of years of hominid evolution points to the fact that the only way a man could know the child was his is if his wife was a virgin. Otherwise it would put his entire lineage at risk and could mean the end of his genes. Though we are evolved humans, we are still animals who live to procreate and survive just like every other life form. Every single life form has a mating-strategy.

Y’all need to realize when they say ‘the best gift they can give to their future husband.’ They aren’t talking about the physical act or changes or anything like that. It’s an acknowledgment that a real relationship with her is a clean slate to build something real upon together without the baggage no damage of prior relationships. As a developmental psych guy in the relationship space(over 100 published articles) marriages to women like this have less than a 10% divorce rate in the west and much less in Asia for very real reasons… 🙏

I was in The Philippines 🇵🇭 in 2022. I passed through Camarines Sur after I arrived in the Legazpi airport. Bicol language is much different than Ilokano or Bisayan. The most feasible answer to the question is that it depends who the would-be husband is and who the wife is. If the couple has 2 Catholics or a mix of Catholic and Orthodox Christian, the answer is "yes". If either partner is Catholic no matter who the other partner is, the answer is "yes".

I know, at this time, it is very difficult to find a virgin. I will never say anything bad about a woman who loses her virginity before marriage. "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." What I do believe very much is that saving virginity for her husband is the greatest gift a woman can give. It is a precious gift and is one of the most symbolic gifts a woman can give her husband. So, a virgin marriage or not it is the love that counts.

Very interesting video. I would assume the answers would vary in the bigger cities. However, the answers 90% of the girls gave... They are practically unheard of in most western countries. Many of young girls in the US specifically do not value their virginity. Thanks to feminism and birth control. Also with the decline of religion. Many western men do not expect women to be virgins because we arent use to the ideal. So many might find it hard to believe there are young women who value their chastity. And are actually virgins.

I did not watch this video but based on the question I want to share my experience. I dated my first wife for 4 1/2 years and we both waited until the night we got married to have sex. In a religious aspect, it was an honor. In real life, it was a disaster. What I found out after marriage was that my wife actually did not like sex. I thought for years maybe it was me. We stayed married for 18 years and had a daughter. I studied ways to please her but even after remarrying another, she tells my daughter she just doesn't like sex. I think there are 4 posts a house/relationship stands on. First is physical attraction, second spiritual attraction, and then third there is soulful attraction. Each has its own meaning. The final post is sexual compatibility. A house can stand on 3 posts but can easily be knocked over. I have had different partners since the end of my marriage and all have been well pleased. Probably because of all the studying I did for the first one. I am not suggesting jumping in bed with just anyone. Not every date has to lead to sex or marriage. If he or she loves you then they should be willing to wait until you can establish at least 2 or even 3 attractions before sex. From my experience, I will not marry again until after I have lived with someone for at least one year.

Virginity is a gift? Far from it. As an older american guy i have no delusions nor am i religiously doctrinated. I wouldn’t even consider a virgin as a girlfriend ever since my 30’s. They seemed to hold dearly something not important in my eyes, while i prefer more important attributes such as personality, intelligence, strength, caring, not given to the controls of other men like a pastor, a priest, a cardinal, a pope. I believe in god but don’t accept a man’s interpretation, i’m agnostic about that. But in god itself, i do believe dearly. I will never be god-fearing, i love god as i’m minuscule part of god. For me god is life, literally. Religions, i’ve seen wars, i’ve seen excused and hidden crimes against the innocent, i’ve see the theft of properties and countries by the bible and the sword in the name of god. Such religions use god’s name for power and riches. Some would say well that’s all in the past. I would say that which was stolen, give it all back and say you’re sorry. Amen.
