Trippin, I've seen double legs end fights. Not the driving through kind. The "stand up, back arch, slingshot your head to the concrete" kind.

Grappling is great to know in 1v1 street fight. But if there multiple people involved from the other side.. stay on the feet.

yes exactly keep it standing and look to get away to safety ASAP!

I'm gonna argue the point that there's no single art form, striking or grappling, that would work with multiple attackers, your best bet is to combine a grappling art with a striking one like BJJ+Muay Thai, even then you can take on 2 maybe max 3 guys at once and you have to be lucky to do so, any more than that and the only best way to defend yourself is run away.

Even with multiple people hip tossing a guy onto concrete is still pretty effective

I agree Tate’s analysis was too simplistic, but overall I get his point. Last place you want to be in a real fight is on the ground, not to mention a lot of bjj folks have terrible takedown skills. Who wants to pull guard on concrete?

A standing front headlock is a submission wrestling technique, it is not developed from bjj by the way. Training in a gi you barely have a chance to do this one when standing.

Most submission fighting championships are won by BJJ athletes (ADCC). Modern grapplers incorporate techniques from judo, BJJ and wrestling. There is no just pure BJJ or pure anything in grappling, since most of BJJ was created from Japanese Ju jutsu and Judo anyway.... Submission wrestling is just submission fighting, which basically is 95% NOGI ju jitsu at the moment (go watch any top level grappling competitions, you will only see Ju jitsu guys). Most BJJ GI blue belts with no striking would absolutely demolish most of strikers with no grappling . Theres a reason why strikers in the UFC train heavily BJJ and even have BJJ black belts (Conor Mcgregor just received one lmao). While wrestlers/BJJ guys dont even need basic striking in the UFC. The most UFC champions are the ones with a grappling background, wrestling and BJJ. bUT Can a bJJ guY wIn aGAinsT 20 oponentS on the streET?!!11oneone no, but neither a striker would or against somebody with a knife Most of the ju jitsu is bad for self defense comes from internet trolls who never stepped a foot in a gym or boxed their whole life and wouild get rekt by a 20y old ju jitsu blue belt.

training in a BJJ gi is 100x more useful than not knowing any BJJ. in a one on one street fight, if all other factors are the same, the guy who trained in BJJ gi, or nogi, will smash the guy who did not.

imo BJJ is great if you're fighting one person. Pulling guard against two or three guys would be idiotic and the moment you have one of them, you're getting curb stomped. So yeah, 1v1, neat, 1v2 or more it's over for bjj fella

What is missing from this conversation is that you do not always get to decide whether to stay on your feet or not. You could get taken down or just grabbed whether you like it or not, and this is where something like kickboxing would become useless and you’d wish you knew some grappling then. Heck, don’t take my word for it; check out all the vids or news of people using BJJ “on the street”. Also, the arguments Tate uses like using dirty moves have been debunked years ago.

I agree completely which is why I believe grappling knowledge to be essential for the purpose of resisting an opponent that has started a grappling exchange!

All you need is kickbox for the streets. 2 or 3 legkicks usally does the trick

I agree to an extent but they arent quick fight finishers and kicks can be problematic to execute if you are wearing jeans for example or other types of trousers!

I’ve heard that jeans argument against kicking before, yet I’ve kicked in jeans countless times and I do not know what the big deal is.@@smoothproductions725

@@smoothproductions725Exactly hence why I prefer boxing over kickboxing. Once you learn to box properly, literally one punch in fraction of a second can end a fight. Also with kicks, even athletes have trouble with hip flexibility to throw fast kicks in combinations like boxing, not to mention ppl tend to absorb kicks a lot better than punches.

It’s funny how a martial art developed for small fighters against big fighters FOR VALE TUDO (basically street fighting), and a martial art that dominated the first 5UFCs (back in the proper days) is now ‘uSeLeSs’ according to a glorified pimp 😂

it would be easier to choke you out in a tank, especially if you have no BJJ experience yourself. That rear naked choke is easier cause your neck is more exposed lol
