Copied from my community post: When you have a channel that discusses celebrity and influencer culture, I think it's important to admit when you're wrong - and my first take was wrong. I'm going to film a follow-up to my Blake Lively video with the new information and allegations that came to light and a discussion about our role in media. Before you draw any conclusions, PLEASE read the entire lawsuit or at least read the article in the NY Times. You can use websites like paywallreader.com to get around the paywall. We are all influenced by our personal opinions of public figures, but that should not affect whether we believe a victim. The allegations are extremely damning, and the screenshots between Justin and his PR firm are horrifying. They used a strategy called astroturfing to flood social media with articles and comments against Blake Lively to damage her career after she put protections in place for herself and her cast as a reaction to Justin's behavior on set. *A person does not have to be likable to be believed.* I still hold a highly critical view of the cast and creative team of It Ends With Us because it's nothing more than a cash grab. No one cared about domestic violence survivors and they still don't. But that doesn't make Justin's behavior okay and it certainly doesn't mean that Blake deserved to be sexually harrassed. Why are you condemning Justin? Don't forget that you are innocent until proven guilty, and when it comes to evidence, Amber Heard also had very good evidence, but it turned out to be fallacies. She created her own bad image, so much that yourself made a video about her, and many others on the internet, so could it be said that you are part of this premeditated smear campaign? I grew up in extreme DV. My bio dad beat my mother and my sister, myself until one day my mom was at work, my oldest sister at school. He got high and angry, shoved my baby sister in her crib in the closet. I hid behind a chair, he passed out. I crawled to her crib to sit by her. Are cried for hours. Till she puked, snd peed through her diaper. 10 hours later my mom returned from work. She freaked out, we left that night. Blake is privileged. Insensitive. Ignorance. I went on and chose relationships that lead to DV. Because it’s what I knew. I eventually broke the cycle. But you aren’t the same ever again.

I just want to say- my mom enjoys Blake. My mom is a DV survivor. She went to see this movie when I told her not to because she just went off of the way this was marketed by Blake. My mom didn’t listen- went. Left in tears because it was too similar of experiences she had. Should my mom have done more research? Yeah. But should Blake should have marketed the movie correctly? I went to the police after a S/A. The police were a joke. The abuser took out a restraining order against me...the female judge sided with him, he has a friend as the police Sargent. I saw the movie. Ryle's character...that charisma, that charm...recognized it. It's intoxicating. He played his character well...and when he changed into the abuser...his eyes changed. Know that all too well. Honestly even "grab your friends" is too far for me. I had what I consider a mild terrible relationship in that I'm not sure whether to say he was toxic or whether he was 'really' abusive. And even then, I had no friends off the Internet for multiple years. My emotional reserves were so depleted that I didn't even have it in me to give advice to a sibling about a situation with one of our parents. I wouldn't have been able to watch something like this for several years. And I still can't watch videos about people that remind me too closely of my ex (ie I can only watch the first half of hbomberguy's plagiarism video because watching videos of James Somerton, especially in distress, is triggering for me)

I used to like Blake after Gossip Girl, for her look, always successful red carpet performance, and somewhat whimsical wittiness. I also was aware that she’s was not intelligent enough to be a top actress, although I was hoping age and experience add some weight to her character. But after so many years, she stays in the gossip girl vibe, with not so much growth in acting or intelligence, but more self-assumed commercial shrewdness. It’s a pity..

My first relationship (14yrs old) was emotionally abusive in so many ways. My boyfriend who was only a year older, would tell me he would kill himself if I ever left him, pretending one time that he had cut his wrists and was bleeding out while on the phone with me. So of course being 14 I believed him, I thought if I EVER left him he would meet his maker, and it would be on me. I put up with his crap for about a year, he lived an hour or so away so it was long distance, but he manipulated me so much to the point where I wouldn’t hang out with any friends who were male, and even stopped hanging out with my girl friends because it became too much of a hassle to explain to him WHY I would want to hang out with friends (because he didn’t like them). Called me fourty something times once when I accidentally left my phone home. That type of shit was a regular thing. One day I was crying (because of him) and my friends older sister saw me (I was at the beach by myself) and asked me what was wrong, so I told her essentially everything and how I wanted to leave him but I was terrified to do so. She was beyond pissed what he was doing to me, took my phone from me and called him and did it for me, stayed with me for I don’t even know how long because he kept calling back after she told him it was over. I WAS SO SCARED OF HIM and he didn’t even live anywhere near me, the emotional abuse that can go along with physical/psychological abuse is intense. Thats what a lot of people don’t understand, you don’t feel safe anywhere. Even if you do leave, it doesn’t necessarily mean you’re out. I will forever be grateful for my friends sister for doing that for me, for helping through something it took me years to even understand. Domestic violence isn’t just physical, and when Justin said “the question shouldn’t be why don’t you leave? It should be why do men (and women) choose to harm?” That really hit home for me, if it was ever as easy as just “leaving” it wouldn’t be such an issue. It makes my blood boil hearing her changing the subject to teeth when talking about something so serious and misunderstood. This ones for you Blake 🖕🏻

That is so very important! I was in an emotionally abusive friendship and there was always the threat of: "If you leave, I'm going to end myself." She had attempted it before and also harmed herself, so I took that seriously. Boundaries were pushed slowly and it took me years to end the relationship. It's not easy to just stop caring about being responsible for the death of someone you also have/had good times with.

Dude, I relate so much, my ex was emotionally abusive to me and told me he’d kill himself if I ever left. He’s in the army so it’s a long distance relationship but he was unhealthily clingy, he would call constantly and sometimes if I couldn’t talk to him enough in one day he’d lash out on me and it was exhausting. He verbally abused me, at one point even threatening to hit me but would always apologize after, and I loved him so I stayed (not to mention I was terrified he’d commit suicide if I left) but about after a year I just couldn’t take it anymore. I never told anyone about what was going on but I finally told my sister and my friend about it. My sister was shocked and couldn’t believe how he treated me, and eventually my friend finally blocked him on my phone. All of this just happened a few days ago, and even after all the thing he’s said to me, I still miss him because I really did (and still do) love him but I had to come to terms with the fact that how he was treating me wasn’t right, and the relationship had to come to an end. It really does break you down

Sorry for what had happeneded to you. Getting into a relationship at the age of 14 is big mistake from my experience. Okay I know that this video is meant to be about criticizing Blake but because I completely missed out on Justin Baldoni's statements regarding the movie due to the whole Blake drama, the following feels very important to me to say: 9:21 "The question that's always asked, is: Why did she stay? And that's the wrong question. What we need to be asking ourselves is: Why do men harm?" And as an abuse victim myself I immediately CRIED. Due to my experiences with men so far I'm having a hard time to trust that he means what he says and is not just trying to portray himself in a good light (just choosing another way to do that than Blake does) - but honestly whether he means it or not, what he says here is SO damn powerful, and so much more important than I think people who weren't abused could ever realize. PLEASE spread this, please refocus on the original message of this movie and Baldoni's efforts to help people who have or had to deal with any kind of abuse. The silver lining of this scandal is that the subject of DV is getting more attention. I was shocked to learn from a news interview of a woman running a shelter for battered women that in the state of Texas 1 in 3 women suffer DV! That’s an insanely high stat.

Absolutely, there are positives that have come out of this. I’ve seen quite a few TikToks of women saying they left their partners bc of the film.

And tbh, there’s no reason that Texas would be an outlier. Those numbers are on par with national data (there are endless ways to measure this, which is why there are so many different stats, but 25-33% lifetime DV experience seems very accurate. Except on reservations where rates go up to 40%. Race of partner doesn’t matter, it’s not cultural, it’s about wretched law enforcement & how poverty makes everything even worse. States like Florida & Texas just seem to be full of nutters, irl, they’ve both experienced massive population booms & we just arent used to how many people live in those states. It’s a mistake to ever correlate politics with DV, btw, conservative vs liberal has little impact on actual behavior in a relationship. A huge percentage of MMIW are victims of DV who were completely failed by a complex judicial system that requires careful, expert change to protect victims AND not strip indigenous nations of their sovereign status. All women deserve protection, but our native women are at extreme risk & need our voices to boost their volume.

THIS is what aggrevated me the most in this whole video...when the blonde interviewer asked about the costumes for the (Woody Allen) movie and what it was like to be able to wear that era's clothes during the movie, Blake says "everyone just wants to talk about the clothes. I wonder if they ever ask the men about the clothes?" Blake, the only thing you EVER talk about are clothes!! Do you not see your own hypocracy? You're asked about the themes of the movie and start talking about teeth crystals. I am a survivor of DV and Blake's flippant attitude in her interviews really tick me off. I am on permanent disability due to my abuser, soon-to-be ex-husband. She has no idea the depths that DV damage causes someone especially mentally. It will take years to try and heal from the layers of hurt and pain. She should have been focused on educating herself on the subject of DV instead of promoting herself and her brands. When you said that you believe she didn't intentionally try to cause harm I have to disagree. It's obvious that she genuinely doesn't care. Because if she had one ounce of sensitivity to the subject she wouldn't have taken the route that she has. She is too self absorbed and self centered.

I was in an abusive relationship. I got out before it got physical. Actually, I got physical several times to snap him out of the mental and emotional abuse he used to inflict. He would follow me around and never let up until I would lock myself in a room and scream at him and almost broke my foot kicking the door when he stood on the other side. I was afraid of who I was allowing myself to become. I always thought of myself as strong and independent and intelligent. Insidious is EXACTLY the right word. People who commit abuse are often doing so under the radar and are gradually manipulative, so please remember it is not on you. You did not permit someone to do that. It takes awhile to pick up on. I was in a similar situation, and the moment I woke up and made a safety plan with a professional was rough, but I look back proud that I did it. You are strong, independent, and intelligent. I felt the exact same as you and got gaslit to hell like I needed to calm down and some assholes decided to frame it like this 'I knew it' thing that they somehow never mentioned to me. My dad told me I 'allowed' my abuser to do it, but that could not be further from the truth. It's such as slow drip that to realize what's going on is torment, and becoming reactive is a survival mechanism. We are not to blame for not detecting it before it reaches our conscious radar. Her hair looks like real hair. Real hair that you get when your nearly 40 and have been bleaching it for your entire life. The hair you see in most beauty campaigns isn't indicitive of the kind of hair you'll actually get from the products. I bought her line because it was marketed as being a drugstore alternative to Keratase and it fits that bill and smells amazing. The nourishing shampoo being a clarifying shampoo actually makes sense because a conditioner/mask isn't going to penetrate if your hair is dirty but you don't need to use that kind of shampoo for every wash so you switch to the other pair which is a milder shampoo and a mask with more protein. Moisturizing and protein conditioners are different kinds. So it makes sense even if it ends up being more products that the usual 2 step shampoo and conditioner. But not every product is going to be for everyone. Also lets be real she's not making the formulas herself.

An issue is that Blake’s attitude toward the story and subject matter match the vibe of the book/author and its readership fanbase. A lot of us in the book community don’t really engage with CoHo or her fans because they romanticize abuse. So it’s not even that Blake’s tone throughout all this is “wrong,” because it matches the story that the book thinks it’s telling. That said, it costs nothing to try to be better…unless she fundamentally doesn’t understand the issues and reads the book as a love story, which lots of people do.

This really was a fantastic video! I'm a DV survivor: I was with my abuser for 12 years. Though he almost tried to kill me, I am so happy to share that I have a remarkable husband now and my miracle baby girl. That being said, I fought harder than most people will understand to heal myself to get here, and it's still a daily battle. The scars from my abuser will be with me forever, no matter how happy or healed I become. Seeing Blake's interviews made my skin boil. It's only shows how it is more important for her to be relatable/likeable (and is trying so obviously hard to convince the audience/consumer that she is) vs. taking opportunities to give a voice to DV and the epidemic of men being excused for abuse while women/partners are blamed for being abused. The deeper thoughts regarding celebrity culture, capitalism themes, and consumerism was so refreshing to hear someone with a platform speaking on. 100 out of 10!

Licensed cosmetologist here with an associate degree in graphic design and marketing, conditioner is the most valuable thing for any hair care. It’s the same as washing your face but not using moisturizer. Those hair masks seemingly aren’t enough to combat the drying effects of the shampoo. And on the subject of packaging, the amount of times I see gorgeous but non functional packaged products ending up on the clearance rack is very common. I recently stocked up on a really nice vegan hair care line that was marked down to 25% of the original price because the product was too thick and couldn’t be pumped out of the pump. Also on the subject of the movie, it’s clear that Blake never cared for the tone of the movie which is why everyone is team Justin. She just seems to want to promote herself and the things that will boost her income over actual creative merit which is fine but also as a consumer I don’t see Blake as much as a business owner and I think that’s because of Ryan. He overshadows her in the business department.

Now I need to watch an update which I also now realized you have done since this situation involves dueling lawsuits. Again the message of this video seems to be "hey be authentic, your audience are smarter than you realize!" And the lawsuits only highlight how right you were 5 months ago and only seem to have gotten worse for Blake. Personally I adore Catherine, Princess of Wales. I was disgusted when Blake jumped on the "where's Kate?" And then offered a very inauthentic apology after Catherine explained she was undergoing cancer treatment. Also, I'm personally not a fan of either the Kansas City Chiefs and especially Travis Kelce. (His brother is more authentic and genuine in my opinion). Ok so I somehow realized Blake and Travis and Taylor and Ryan are just a bunch of bullies. Got it. That's how I view their "brands" now.

I never had any issues with Blake but had some doubts about how authentic she is. After seeing so many mean girl moments from her resurfacing and seeing her behavior surrounding 'This ends with us' I have to be team Justin 100%. She still hasn't shown any response and respect to the journalist that she treated horribly. Talking about her 'little bump' which was actually fat shaming and a deeper hurtful comment because the journalist isn't able to have children. I've grown up in a home with DV and it's absolutely horrible and will scar you for life. I can't get behind any of Blake's behavior, like promoting an alcohol brand while alcohol often leads to so much more DV. She's so out of touch! Apparently this type of character was way too much for her. Also, let's not forget she stole Scarlet's husband... Team Justin all the way, he's shown nothing but education, respect and class.

I read the book and just saw the movie. Since I live overseas, I had no idea about the controversy surrounding Blake Lively and her marketing campaigns. But I was uncomfortable with the film itself down-playing the DV. My male friend was confused by the ambiguity of the abuse sequences - I think her acting was too "sunny' and flippant. I sensed a lack of sincerity.

I saw a good point from a DV survivor that the reason the movie was effective was because it was vague. A lot of women on tiktok said it’s easy to look at overt abuse and think “oh that’s not me, that’s not my relationship,” but a lot of women left the film and realized they were in abusive relationships specifically because the movie echoed their experience. I haven’t seen the film but based on what I’ve heard, they didn’t downplay it to be more palatable, but rather to show the insidious nature of abuse and how it can completely creep up on you. I value that perspective.

One of my friends played a computer game several years ago that was meant to mimic an abusive relationship. You go through the game and a voice tells you what to do. If you listen to the voice your tasks stay simple but the world around you stays dark. If you begin to defy the voice, your tasks become harder but the world around you starts to brighten. Most women have experienced some level of abuse whether it's mental/emotional, sexual, physical, or all of the above. Maybe if women didnt experience DV at such a high rate it wouldn't have been as big of a deal? I just can't wrap my brain around why Blake and her team thought it'd be a good idea to misrepresent the movie to that degree. I have heard that Colleen Hoover experienced backlash when she released the book as well so I'm assuming they felt like they could get ahead of the criticism some how by lightening the mood? I'm just glad that everything is coming to light now so consumers can make a choice whether or not to support someone. I don't always think that actors, comedians, celebrities, etc should be held accountable and expected to educate the public on every single issue. However, this movie wasn't meant to be a joke it was a serious movie about a real common issue. I wish Blake would've educated herself on DV so she'd understand how to respond in interviews and maybe share some real helpful tips and resources.

My sister's husband killed their daughter and himself out of spite. He was a former drill Sargeant for the Air Force, so he had a lot of connections. He got full custody of my neice in hopes it would make my sister come running home to him. When she didn't, he shot my neice and then himself. Kenzie was only 6. I was 14 when it happened, and it still affects me at 30. And my poor sister... Blake is absolutely disgusting for basically making a mockery of victims like my neice and my sister.
