I am an old Blender user from way back.... I think I started in Blender in 2002. The grease pencil function was ment to make it possible for users to use a marker or drawing tool to show things in Blender while teaching or cooperate in projects together with others. Funny idea that this function today is a powerrull tool that brings thousands of users into Blender.... Great video, thanks

Woah, what a fantastic perspective! It’s amazing to hear from someone who has witnessed Blender’s journey firsthand-from the early days of Grease Pencil as a simple teaching tool to the powerful creative powerhouse it is today. Your insight really highlights how far Blender and its incredible community have evolved. Hearing from long-time users like you adds so much depth to the story of Blender’s growth. Here’s to many more years of innovation, creativity, and shared passion! Thanks for sharing your experience and for the kind words-really appreciate it!

@@cgfocus Thanks for the kind words. I have worked in many different 3D softwares,- Softimage (before it became Microsoft), Maya, Lightwave (way back from the Amiga), Strata, Cinema 4D and Modo. Blender at that time was free, but not very powerfull. But with 2.57 it became something to look for. And now Blender is to me the most powerfull and versatile full 3D package.

@hfranke07 Woah, incredible! we never got to experience older versions of Blender until version 2.80, and Blender will always be our most versatile tool as well. It's the reason we started this channel, and many others got into different creatives. it's just incredible ✨️👌

Animating is all about estimated time to finish. Im an animator working in animation industry. I had used animate, tbh and blender. I honestly can say blender is cool only on the sculpt tool. The rest are pain in the ass. U are making fully traditional with extra steps. (Character animation) Tbh is the number 1 choice Flash is very good for light projects and have a symbol feature.
@cgfocus2 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing your experience-it’s always great to hear from professionals in the industry! You make a valid point about time efficiency being critical in animation, and traditional 2D workflows can feel more streamlined in software like Adobe Animate or Toon Boom Harmony due to features like symbols and simplified character rigging. That said, Blender’s Grease Pencil stands out because it combines traditional 2D animation with the flexibility of 3D tools, opening up creative possibilities that other software doesn’t easily offer. It’s true that Blender has a steeper learning curve and its workflows, which can seem more labor-intensive compared to other 2d animation tools. However, recent updates, like the improvements in Grease Pencil 3, have been addressing these issues to make it more user-friendly and efficient. While Blender may not replace tools like Flash or Harmony for certain workflows, it’s an excellent option for artists who want to explore hybrid 2D/3D projects without the cost of traditional software. It’s all about what suits your workflow and creative goals. Out of curiosity, what improvements do you think would make Blender more competitive for 2D character animation?
@TrevorKeenAnimation8 күн бұрын
ToonBoom is all well and good if you're with a studio that's paying for the software, but it's overpriced. Harmony and SBPro will set you back almost $1200/yr, compared to $800 and change for all the Adobe softwares. (Still, Maya costs even more.) Also, what tools work best depend a lot on what style you want to work in.
@cgfocus8 күн бұрын
@TrevorKeenAnimation Yeah, pricing is definitely a huge factor, especially for individual artists or small studios. While Toon Boom has its strengths for animation pipelines, the costs can be prohibitive compared to alternatives. It's also worth noting that open-source tools like Blender are becoming more versatile and accessible, though they might not fully replace Harmony or Storyboard Pro for specific styles. Ultimately, you're right-it comes down to the style and workflow you're aiming for.

Yes, we did use AI-specifically ElevenLabs for our voiceover-to streamline our production. The script and content were carefully researched and written by us, with the help of AI of course. There’s nothing wrong with using AI; it’s becoming a standard practice, and honestly, everyone’s doing it 🤷♂️. So why shouldn't we?

i've always been a 2d artist, but i've been lookign for something revolutionary that could easily bring the tools of 3d with 2d ( scene set up, depth, general new approach for visuals ) and this looks hopeful for that.
