I feel like those changes also makes Chef potentially easier to pick up/figure out for folks new to RoR2! And I fully agree, it's more a handful of tweaks to factor in playability for a 3D space and enjoyability of such.

yeah a lot of RoR2 players didn't play the original or returns, so while being faithful to his kit is very nice to us old players these changes make sure new players don't have to deal with clunkiness of a kit made for a different game. Very good point :)

I have to be honest, I was a bit scared on how they were going to put chef in RoR2. Because as you said, the kit in the first game doesn't translate well to 3D (A big example is in mods, because I'm sorry but they are bad, it feels weird). But after seeing the trailer and dev diary it all made sense, changing chef's legs for a wheel was a bit odd at first, but it looks really fun, and way more useful than just a small speedboost as you spill some oil to the floor. And for those who say that chef is going to be broken, first of, it's a PvE game who cares, and secondly, there have always been stronger characters than others, and let's be honest, loader and railgunner are still going to be the strongest ones

Having played the modded chef that ports it basically 1:1 from ror1, I think the changes are perfectly reasonable. Giving it a new mobility skill and moving glaze to the special as a projectile makes applying oil way easier and safer, and sear being a long flamethrower rather than one burst looks super fun! Also works out because second helping glaze kinda sucks anyway so not being able to have both is alright. Yes chef looks wild, I'm eager to see what the other alt skills will be!

I think he'll depend less on specific items to function than certain characters (ie, Commando, Rex). His kit gives him aoe, healing and mobility. We know for sure he can proc bands without items, so he looks like he'll be at least decent in the damage department. Chef will be the best and most consistent user of Death Mark (so far anyway) He's definitely going to be strong. I estimate he'll be a top 3 character, but I still don't think he'll be OP.

I think these changes seem reasonable. Chef now takes fewer risks in 3D space and does more damage or has tweaked attacks to mitigate the change in perspective

I can be mistaken, but looks like the Chef is gonna be highly melee focused. And ror2 does not support that kind of playstyle very much IMO.Yeah, you will faceroll first 2 or 3 maps, but when Elder Lemurians and Magma worms will start to show up you will gonna have a bad time

@@Vasiliy9hells I don't know if I'd say melee focused as cleavers do have a solid range, but I expect we'll see lots of mid range play taking advantage of cleavers on hit potential, mixed with priming via glaze and hit and run tactics with sear. Get in, do big damage, get out. Might be similar to how high level Acrid play often looks now that I think about it, but we'll have to see :3

Captain shows us that simply having a good primary skill can make a good character even if the other active skills are bad (let alone just the secondary) so I doubt that'll really be an issue.

Commando's piercing shot is a good example of skills being adapted to 3d. Iirc the devs admitted that it was kind of weird just porting it over mostly intact, and even after making it extra wide it still kinda sucks in this game

yep, piercing is great if there's only two directions to fire in but now it's basically a glorified extra punch of damage which there's an alt for as well. Thankfully commando isn't harmed too badly overall by it, but it is a very good example of what would happen if we kept old sear

So i think Chef will have the CAPACITY to be a bit more broken but not initially . From what I've heard people seem to think he's broken because he's possibly a "natural" Death Mark user. Now me personally i think what makes chef possibly broken is slower or stationary enemies. Depending on how long the cleavers stay in air , things like Beetle queens , Vagrants, Grandparents even the Voidling will easily be hit multiple times , also jw will the cleaver deal DPS while in mid air or is it just a single hit, like if enemies pass over a cleaver will they get hit multiple times ( without proc ) kinda like a Multi Sawblade or just once while its peircing then again when it passes through?

@waylonthompson3507 oh yeah, he'll definitely have an easier time achieving god run status than other survivors, and that consistency is a marker of a top tier character. I think he'll be a solid A or S tier for sure, but I think he'll still relatively be in line with the other survivors that are with him there. While deaths mark is good and being able to get it so easily is very very nice, typically DM isn't a "this run will fail without it" type item, more a "man a deaths mark would be pretty nice right now" kinda thing ya know? As for the multi hit, the way he's always worked leads me to believe you'll only be able to get two hits, but I am curious, and that would certainly be a powerful touch. I'm excited to see exactly where he lands and how it plays :)

i like the roller, legs could have been good with proper care but i dont like what i could look like tbh, like the enforcer gang mod model is quite ugly i dont like it at all but this design is pleasing to my eyes i like enforcer gang mods tho no hate to them
